I was lucky enough to get the beta versions of Windows 7 and will have the actual release version sometime next week. im wondering if they'll be support for windows 7

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
I don't see why a up-coming video game that so far only looks years away from release would not support the latest operating systems. If that's what you're talking about- you forgot to include the subject of what you are hoping is supported, for some reason
well, im sure win 7 will support diablo 3. if it doesnt it will be really stupid of blizzard.
so anyway, since this is in general discussion.
i have been trying to look into windows 7, im really interested in this new os, though i dont know where to safely download it. can anyone who has help me out. i might just back up my laptop and try it out on there or load it on a old computer.
also, to make this more general, what are your opinions on windows 7?
i myself didnt like vista, but for some reason im astounded by windows 7. and hope it comes out good.
Well, I read that Windows 7 is very similar to Vista at the base level, but it basically got stripped of a lot of the graphic clutter and some inconvenient features (like a bunch of programs being defaulted to ask for your permission to run them after you just clicked on the .exe), and I heard that it's pre-installed with a lot of different kinds of drivers for common installations like wireless adapters (wireless Ethernet, I'm not sure what it's called), printers, scanners, cameras, and so on, much like Mac does with its computers. My older brother got the beta and said that it runs a lot better than most OS's, but now he's just running Ubuntu.
Personally, just because of the raw power my computer has, I never had any performance issues with Vista, like it running slowly or getting glitchy, but some basic things it makes me go through as a user (like, again, re-authenticating every single action I do) are, admittedly, just annoying and really don't make my computer any safer.

They did this because everyone was complaining how unsafe it was. It actually does help, say you accidently opened something you don't want opened, and it installs a virus on your computer. Well, with that authentication on there, you can say "Woops, no" instead of "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" But now everyone complains about that. Kind of messed up, no? But my boss has the beta, says that just in the beta version it's far better than Vista. I can't wait! October, here we come!

Yeah, it's MUCH better than vista. I tried it briefly at a friends house, and it was quite amazing.
Wish I hadof been able to hop on the Beta though, my net is too shitty to download massive files :/.
As for diablo 3, I have no idea why they wouldn't make it run with it. Seems W7 is going to be the new microsoft standard OS (since they actually seem to be doing something right, this time around), so it would be stupid to not makw it compatible with it.

I use windows 7 every day. Not that im a programmer or anything. I had to jump a few hoops to get diablo 2 to run correctly on 7 which was strange because 7 is based on the same graphical engine that vista works on. (Had to disable the areoglass interface and run the icon on the desktop on windows xp compatibility mode, run in 256 colors, disable desktop composition, disable display scaling on high DPI settings and run the program as an administrator) but since 7 uses memory a bit less than vista does and runs faster than vista all the time (the reason why i love 7 so much) i cant imagine 7 being the best choice for diablo 3 anyway. Even in the Evaluation copy build 7100 release candidate. Im sure the last thing they would do is allow their game to become incompatible with windows 7.

I don't know, I've never complained about it because I maintain strict control of my computers and make sure that I'm not turning a blind eye to stuff that looks curiously like it shouldn't be there. I never had an issue. The whole thing is unnecessary and provides no real protection- any virus of any caliber would be made by people that would know how to bypass that kind of mundane thing.
Now, if there was a toggle in the settings that could universally enable or disable all of them, I would immediately like Vista a lot more- it would be providing the added security blanket that computer toddlers still need (your casual users that barely realize what they're doing when they click a file) and would allow for the unfettered freedom for the rest who know what they're doing and don't need Microsoft to act like a digital nanny.
The other thing that bothers me a lot is that even though I'm an administrator I have to go through a bunch of annoying things to run my local server (that I use to develop PHP scripts that interact with some MySQL and stuff) because, for some completely moronic reason, Microsoft decided that ADMINISTRATORS should not have the power to ADMINISTRATE what programs can write to THEIR OWN TOP-LEVEL HARD DRIVE. That was rediculous, since I didn't use XXAMP or a pre-packaged solution, for my installations so that I could fine-tune them. It was a complete fiasco and was completely unnecessary. I can bet you $500 USD, though, that there would be no problem installing any royalty Microsoft program of the same purpose, like SQL Server 7.0 or something, because, as we all know, Microsoft is a power and money-hungry monster that can't stand seeing the true glory of the internet embodied in open source programs work efficiently, because they wouldn't be making a cent. Good thing they're all accounting for it now, though, since we have to PAY to DOWNGRADE to XP.
I've read that the load of that will not be present in Windows 7, however, for which I am eternally grateful.

Other than that, I love my Vista. Searching is very easy and efficient, I found, and it's always live-streaming to the letter I type. That's probably my favorite part. I also like how they changed how the start menu works, showing folder hierarchy and such, I thought that was a good change. There are some other things, too, but, well, I'm tired.
I'll never use it but really wonder how it will come out to be...
It MUST be better than Vista, seeing how little of a success Vista was, but i just want to know how it will compare to non-Win popular OSs like Ubuntu Linux and such you know...
Well I just got Windows 7 RTM, and it isn't that great still, having some faults loading programmes.
IMO stick to XP or Vista (XP is reccomended).
7 is still in RC stage... so I don't care for it. I hope they get done with the underlying .NET framework for once.
I didn't bother with Vista because I knew what it was from the start. People who've actually bought the thing perplex me. This has been happening with Windows for ages: they release 2 pairs of OS, one bad to get money and test stuff, one good that comes later after the bad one.
Not to mention that it would be prudent to wait for an SP or other. I know some people with Vista could not load a particular game until they installed SP2... What's the rush? XP works just fine. Wait until it's tested through by the users who have too much money before you get it.
Bellend, good luck with Ubuntu and geting Cedega and WINE working to run your Windows games and applications. Don't get me wrong though, I love Ubuntu under certain situations. Gaming is generally not one of them. There are some decent FPS (Nexuiz, and the ID Software catalog) for linux and a few good open source games in different genres. However the general group of software, especially where games are concerned, is on Windows. Since we are here on a a Diablo discussion board, I think it would be safe to consider what platforms Blizzard generally produces for. Apple Mac OS, and Microsoft Windows are the two platforms they build or in most of their games.
Kenzai, the biggest complaint about Vista was its huge resource footprint, doesn't it follow that they would slim it down some for the next OS release? Further, they have had command line shell access for many administrative things, and PowerShell and several scripting engines have existed for Windows natively for nigh upon a decade or so. To be honest, both Vista and 7 are wonderfully stable, provided you have stable hardware and your manufacturer doesn't produce poorly written drivers for your equipment. Most crashes are directly attributed to driver issues. You don't blame Linus Torvalds or linux in general when a bad driver module causes a kernel panic or a nasty race condition.
Equinox, I can understand the view of always waiting for the first service pack to come out. That has been a business staple for ages. Don't rush in, take things with a grain of salt, and evaluate things on actual product. As far as .NET, that is a continually evolving platform framework. 3.5 is pretty good and fairly stable so far but I know they are already working on .Net 4.
So far for me, on the two systems I have installed Windows 7 RC on it runs wonderfully. I have been able to get D2 running on it easily , along with Guild Wars, WoW, HL2, TF2, Psychonauts, and many other games working just fine. Really if you don't want to take my word on it, download the RC for free from Microsoft and try it out. You can get it over here: http://tinyurl.com/9agzvs . If you have any issues gettin it running, or a particular application/game running you can even talk to the devs and engineers over on the official Windows 7 RC Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 .
What exactly is your reason for saying that?
Microsoft may actually be taking the right decisions this time.
Win7 may indeed be the next big success.
I'd be glad to hear your opinions or if you'd direct me to any critiques (or other OS comparisons etc.) you found to be good.
My reason is because I have the RTM, and it still has many faults, it's just as bad as Vista was when it first came out. I have a few programmes that don't run at all, and others stuff up alot. The setup is ok I guess.

windows7? imo even worse, most noticeable problem is draining laptop battery like a baby in a pouch, and graphics/UI isnt that impressive
