Anyone else notice that the Barb looks really rustic in the image with the shield. I hope this is how it starts out. Really rough, and we have to work at finding some chestplates or chainmails....It makes it much more satisfying to find cool armor/weaps when you have to work to get it. IMO

I believe that is an axe. I thought it was a spear or somethin at first too, but looking closer there appears to be a shadow of an axe on the ground below the weap. Check it out.

The Unburied is formed by the fusion of soil, rock, human bodies and angry souls. The spikes that jut from its body are shards of stone ripped from the earth during the development of the creature.
Ah so it's not created in any way, just earth, evil and dead bodies.
Guess the loincloth is part of what the bodies were wearing, or something.
Why are a lot of monsters looking like overweight NASCAR enthusiasts who just happen to be undead? Fuck's sake, a LOT have a shitload of extra fat, a face that tells me "well, Blizzard are introducing monsters with Down Syndrome", something to cover their dick/pussy with, and some addition/modification to/of the hands. It's ridiculous.
Ok there is only 3 really fat mobs so far. Unburied, Grotesques, and Thousand pounder.
One of the three zombie models is chubby but there are fat people you know.
None of the skeletons are fat (lol), 2 zombies are skinny, those ghouls are skinny, those new Bone Reavers look like they will be somewhat small (at least not fat), cultists aren't fat (even though they aren't undead technically, lots of not fat monsters just gotta look around.
I'm sure there will be plenty of normal sized mobs to kill as well.
Rofl, i agree, talk about having a serious lack of inspiration. The overly enthusiasm this monster receives shocks me, its like none is actually expecting to see some quality. So, we got some bipedal big fat blob with stretch marks, scars, neon green eyes and cancerous swells, spikes and skulls and a loincloth, and obviously your oversized limbs/muscles. Woopedidoo. BORING.
It's better than having no update at all Doppel. This monster has been like no other monster in the previous games. With this route, there will be much more monsters to come that we have yet to see or imagined. Blizzard is obviously taking a whole new route with their group of monsters unlike diablo 1 and 2 where the monsters were quite simular.

It accomplishes the look they were going for. It's mashed together pile of corpses, of course its not going to be skinny. It isn't really fat either, just muscular and malformed. Looks like it has a lot of extra organs too. I think they should take the loincloth off and leave a mass of gnarled pubic hair. . . or nothing at all. Ooh and there should be random limbs jutting out of it near the heads. So it looks like it absorbed its twins in whatever unholy womb it was created. You know what I mean?
What makes a good monster for me is one with convincing sounds, I imagine this one having a gurgled kind of scream with big thunderous footsteps and maybe the sound of scraping and smashing stone when it hits you.
There is only so much badassery that you can emphasize with visuals alone. Sounds are very powerful tools for making a monster memorable. If these game companies invested half of what they spend on visuals in sound, the games would be much more interesting to play.

There are 3 tracks, one is deep and gravely, probably the big mouth on the side. One is just a gurgleing sound coming from the main mouth. The third is a high pitched one that I like to imagine coming from one of those skulls:D
[EDIT]On second thought, that might get annoying unless it was used for the death sound.
I'm pretty sure that the town in the concept art is New Tristram. It's got the river, the cathedral (plus hole in roof, probably caused by meteor), and that structure in the distance, on the hilltop, is almost certainly the Monastery. It relates nicely to the map from the D3 website.
So the Monestery is still around. It would be cool if it were a visitable location, and it had been retaken by the rogues, as the dialogue in D2 would seem to indicate.
Hmmm... so it took like.. what 4 months (1/4 of a year by the wayyy) to come out with a new monster a piece of artwrok? somewhat disappointed but nonetheless, its new material! i think he looks great, and even if he resembles the abomination from WC3/WoW who gives a shit, he fits perfectly well in the diablo realm!
and why is everyone obsessing over a piece of artwork by peter lee? does it show us anything?
