While I have my slight suspicions that Tyrael may have unknowingly become corrupted by the shattered Worldstone, I think deep down in my heart I believe that our faithful guider is still good.
The Worldstone was corrupted by Baal, right? It was letting the demons in anyway, while blocking the Heavens. The Worldstone also repressed the potential powers of the Nephalem. By destroying the Worldstone, Tyrael was opening a door for the Nephalem to regain their powers and also allow any Heavenly beings to assist. He turned an incoming one-sided battle into two.
Okay, I read a couple pages on the topic and then skipped mostly to the end just to see where we'd gotten so far with this idea. Maybe it was already discussed, but when you defeat Izual and release him, doesn't he confess that he's the one that gave Tyrael the soulstones, knowing that the Diablo and his brothers would be able to corrupt them? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for an epic battle for Tyrael's soul, but from everything I've seen so far in the story, it seems like Tyrael's one of the only agents of Heaven who's trying to prevent humanity from being overrun my demon hordes.
We have good idea of what Act 1 and Act 2 will be like. And as for Act 3, some think its going to be held in a tropical atmosphere but that's just another speculation.
What I want to talk about is the ending act, the Act 4. From a game developer's point of view, I would hate to end another diablo franchise by killing Diablo. I strongly believe they have changed the story or put a twist to it.
My own speculation of how and where Act 4 is going to play out.
(This is just my own idea, if you have your own please feel free to share!)
Act 4 will start with a cinematic video introduction.
- The clip is the continuation of what happened after Tyrael throws his sword at the red evil chamber? in Baal's Throne.
- Tyrael finally thinks this world is free of evil, as he himself was the one to eliminate them and witness with his own eyes.
- However, little did he know that by destroying the evil chamber, he was vulnerable to being corrupted despite him being wholly good.
- *Twist* Tyrael is corrupted but not fully. He's inner goodness is still fighting the evil thats inside him. Now he is half evil and half good, hes decisions are immoral at times. He still has access to heaven and hell.
The world wants us to eliminate Tyrael before he turns completely evil.
We might have to travel back and forth from hell to heaven in Act 4, to trace down Tyrael's whereabouts and etc...
Again this is just my own thoughts
I also want to hear your own versions of Act 4
P.S - I didn't want to include my own version of Act 4 from start to finish. I kept the important part of my speculation. We will obviously kill Diablo in Act 4, but he is probably the one who comes just before Tyrael, as Tyrael > Diablo.
I have Diablo as my final boss, with encounters(but not fights) with Baal and Mephisto throughout the act with them taunting you leading your smartself into a trap. During the act all of a sudden the appearance of hostile Angels who seem to not be from the High Heavens. With the final fight with Diablo, after his "defeat" Tyrael, Mephy, Baal jump in cinematically kicking your ass and leaving you to die right before you can finish off Big D, then they portal off to the High Heavens to attempt to destroy the Angrius Council(leading to the expansion of course).

I think Act 4 will either be A kill Diablo again, Or be Act 3 you kill D and now Heavens angels are trying to kill humans as a fight for sanctuary ensues between the angels that hate humans and the humans + angels who think highly of humans. Eliminating all the evil angels will be the final boss.

I've never adhered for a second to the corrupt Tyrael theories. I just don't buy it. But I've written far too much about why for me to wanna rehash it all again. Wear the eyepatch, Bret. Wear the funky, funky eyepatch.
Act 3 is going to be in the Dreadlands/Bastion's Keep, not a tropical area. The only reason people thought that is because Act 3 in D2 was a jungle, but we've been told that they've shown a bit of Act 3, and the only thing not labeled as Act 1 or 2 is Bastion's Keep. IMO we'll get our share of a Hell-like environment in Act 3 through the Dreadlands, and Act 4 could be Heaven.
If you recall screen shots from Blizzard North's Diablo 3 work, there was an image of a town with angels w/ wings as NPC.Now... I don't know how much of the story line was converted over to Blizzard, I am sure some storyline has been changed while leaving some the same.
I'm leaning towards Act 4 being in Heaven. It will be somewhat of an exciting way to finish the game, as we all know there will be an expansion. Perhaps, Heaven will be threatened by Tyrael, the keeper himself.
Act 3 - Hell (Dreadlands)
Act 4 - Heaven
Expansion Act 5 - Tyrael's Sanctuary [Not sure if this will be in Heaven, but probably near]
- All monsters in this act are raised by Tyrael the evil himself, which are even stronger than ever.
The final act Boss Tyrael, who is now fully evil as suppose to half evil half good (from D3 original). The last remaining Evil in the world must come to an end.It has the form of an angel but has both angelic and devilish power that he can both manipulate to his own.
P.S - The party cap has increased to 6 just to compensate for Tyrael's Power.
jk
What is exactly Bastion or whatever you guys call it?
I only have idea of what Act 1 and Act 2 will look like. But clueless to what Act 3 can possibly look like.
Does act 3 resemble any sign of Hell or appearance of Diablo ?
There is nothing wrong with Diablo beingthe main antagonist once again in the Diablo series. You don't get mad when Mario has to once again stop Bowser or Link fight Ganon. I still think Diablo will be the last boss in the original Diablo 3.
It has been said that the story of Diablo 3 focuses on two demons invasion of Sanctuary. I take these two to be Belial and Azmodan. Who will be the bosses of act 2 & 3 (act 1 will have someone less important). After you falsely believe Sanctuary is safe, Then diablo, Baal, and Mephistopheles will some how escape the abyss and be the final boss in act 4.

You do realize that there are a whole heap of angels right? Some of which are already crazy?
There's only one remotely plausible argument for a corrupted Tyrael. And that draws off of the fact that he destroyed the world stone keep knowingly revealing sanctuary completely to the high heavens and hell.
Other than that, there is no real reason to speculate that Tyrael will fall and I doubt that he will.

Just curious where does this Tyrael is corrupted thought process comes from? No angel has ever been corrupted except Izual and he is a speck of dust compared to Tyrael and the other members of the Angiris Council. Izual wasn't even truly corrupted he just took what he saw as a chance for power.
Tyrael was a fool to have trusted me! You see, it was I who told Diablo and his Brothers about the Soulstones and how to corrupt them. It was I who helped the Prime Evils mastermind their own exile to your world. The plan we set in motion so long ago cannot be stopped by any mortal agency. Hell, itself, is poised to spill forth into your world like a tidal wave of blood and nightmares. You and all your kind... are doomed. "
So what makes people think the Angel that has looked out for mankind for thousands of years would be so easily corrupted. Or that he even remains on Sanctuary. He returned to the High Heavens after the Sin War, why would he stay after the Prime Evils were banished back to the black abyss? It seems a popular theme in other cinema but to me it makes no sense according to the Diablo lore. I don't see Tyrael being corrupted in a matter of however long D3 takes place after remaining diligent for all these years.

IMO, Tyrael just seems way to powerfull not to do anything himself, im not saying he gets corrupted or anything, just that he has a greater scheme to gain power over the world.
Who even said that the heavens are SUCH a better place and that the angels aren't destructive and manipulative etc. It might even turn out that heaven is equally as bad as hell, they just have a way to manipulate the humans to their will better then the demons..
I wonder too much xD
Heaven isn't better in fact half of the council hates sanctuary and wants to rule them just like hell wants to rule sanctuary to gain the advantage in their everlasting war. Thats why this is going on. Now that either side can enter at will there will be bigger battles and what not. And once one side is defeated by sanctuary the other will just invade to kill us off themselves and that side will rule everything.

Nuller you have a pretty valid point. Of course we won't be just fighting demons this time around. I do think they have said though that we won't be fighting angels (at least not until a expansion )
I can understand where you're coming from I just think Tyrael is the wrong angel to be looking at. I propose the angel, on par with if not stronger than Tyrael, that has hated Sanctuary and humans all along. Imperius.
A lot of this article hasn't been updated in a long while but much of it still holds true. Especially the excerpts from texts.
You're right, angels aren't do-gooders, they almost decided to destroy humans because they were the offspring of angels AND demons. The vote was pretty close on whether or not to purge humanity. So maybe now that Tyrael has interfered he could possibly be cast out of heaven, not necessarily corrupted, but now the orders have come down to destroy sanctuary. Both demons and angels want sanctuary as a staging ground against one another.
Sure this is just a theory also but Imperius has hated humans all along, very much so. It seems more logical he'd want to destroy them. Tyrael after all voted against destroying humanity and has always helped.
The idea of Tyrael corrupt is kinda lame....Tyrael fought for humanitys survival. No way he would turn it around and try and kill us. Tyreal is beyond corruption. I dont think there has been any corrupt angel. Only a fallen angel Izual who wanted power. Inarius only became insane when he thought he was god on his little world. If tyrael became corrupt I probably would not touch another blizzard game ever.

I'll tell you what's lame. Ending the game by killing Diablo for the 3 consecutive series.
Diablo 1, Diablo 2, and now Diablo 3? Hahaha, I'm sure most will agree that this is a worst ending possible and it is highly unlikely to happen.
As much as you don't like twist ending, it's probably what Blizzard has already planned for us.
I don't see the death of Diablo being a viable ending to Diablo 3. It will probably be the most boring game storyline known to humanity in 21st century. Every story has a twist, and my theory is just a speculation of what that twist might be.
I believe Blizzard is creative, and has captured some imaginative aspects between the world of Hell and Heaven.
What that could be? probably Heaven turning away from us? why not?
The thing is, Heaven was never WITH us. They just allowed us to live. The only one actually with us was Tyrael. Most angels could care less what happens to the humans. Tyrael though I would say is least likely to become corrupted though. I don't believe any angel will become corrupted. Does that mean they won't decide to destroy us though? No. They came close to it before.
