Again I say, Diablo 0 Belial 80. That demon looks nothing like Diablo, or any other prime evil for that fact. Belial is the lord of lies. 20 years of peace? How could there be 20 years of peace when the gate that held the burning hells back was broken? I'll tell you why. Belial is like a master of puppets, hiding in the shadows till his followers become the majority. Dark Cultists anyone? I'll stir up some evidence, just give me a sec.
Ok, I'd love to see your evidence, and please, do show that your getting this from somewhere. I referenced a manual, a novel (which just so happens to be the only two pieces of literature that bother to mention your lord of lies), and an in-game quote. Whatchya got.
In the mean time, I'll pull apart your current argument. First off, your 80 to 0 number almost flies, but somehow or other I doubt it on account that in the last two games Diablo had no trouble getting help. Trust me I killed a ton of demons to get to him and his brothers. That and the Prime Evils wasted 2/3 of the combined forces of Azmodan and Belial. I should think they'd make short work of what's left of Belials army. Next, your idea that Belial is pulling strings in the mortal world: with the sole exception of one occurrence in Legacy of Blood, Belial has shown a lack of interest in mortal affairs, prefering to either fight the Heavens, or, in fact, squabble with Azmodan. On that note that particular exception to the rule didn't go so well for him, so I doubt he'd try again.
Belial is a Lesser Evil. Lesser Evil = Lesser boss.

A few demons remained loyal to the brothers through the Dark Exile and they were pretty much all decimated in D2. So if the brothers came back and assaulted Sanctuary they would have no real power in terms of sheer numbers. I doubt if the brothers returned they would be near as powerful as they were when the Dark Exile took place. And what if Hell's civil war is over? The victor would have 160 legions under his command. The fact that belial has corrupted humans gives notion that he may try again. Have you seen the demonic appendages that the Dark Cultists have? They really remind me of the demons in LoB. The game has all new demons, which probably means that there is a new demon lord commanding them. Lesser Evil is not the same as Lesser Power.
My other theory is that Kabraxis has returned through Darrick Lang and is corrupting Sanctuary.
Go search out the evidence you're self. Its somewhere on this forum, provided by Lord Elfen himself.
" We know that Azmodan, Lord of Sin, and Belial, Lord of Lies took over Hell. Eventually, Azmodan and Belial turned on each other. We never find out who wins that conflict.
I believe we heard about Azmodan's death, because Belial is mentioned as the last lesser evil. Now, people assumed this meant Belial defeated Azmodan. Perhaps, or perhaps Azmodan died in hell, where as Belial was in the mortal world.
Belial decides that if he wants power back he's going to have to eliminate all obstacles in his path. To do this he takes the form of the dead Decard Cain (Or possesses him) in Tristram. This explains why he was still alive when you reach him.
He uses his knowledge of hell, demons and the horadrim to aid you in your quest. With his help you eliminate the lesser, greater and prime evils... This is why Decard Cain came with you, why he helped you, why he was always there with the knowledge needed.
Plus, in Judaic beliefs, the names Belial AND Cain were both names of demons."
It was a Deckard Cain = Belial Lord of Lies forum. But it actually tells you alot and is a good theory for this topic.

Nice theory, but it's speculation. For all we know they still have legions left.
And what if Hell's civil war is over? The victor would have 160 legions under his command.
Wrong. A war that hs been lasting this long would have a lot of casualties. As such, they would be significantly reduced. That, and l repeat that last we heard Belial was doing poorly in the war, so I doubt it would be him.
The game has all new demons, which probably means that there is a new demon lord commanding them. Lesser Evil is not the same as Lesser Power.
Your argument about new demons is actually decent, but it's hardly conclusive. Now, about Lesser Evils and Lesser Powers, from all the examples that we have seen, yes it is. In the manual they are described as such. The other lesser evils which we've encountered were vastly inferior to the primes we know now. The only reasons Belial and Azmodan were able to beat the Primes are they were united and had the backing of the other Lessers, and they had superiority in numbers. Since that time they have lost their unity and support (seems Duriel and Andariel went back to their true masters). They've also sustained heavey losses from both kicking out the Primes (which once again, it appears they were manipulated into that), and their own little civil war.
My main problem with the idea that Belial is the big bad is that while he may command a demon army, he himself individually is to weak to be a final boss. I will be supremely dissapointed if I have to fight through Belials Army just to kill someone on the same power and difficulty level as Andariel or Duriel.
On an unrelated note, your while your kabraxis theory is off topic, I like it and encourage you to post a thread on it.
but it is reasonable that he has many mounts so we will not know which one is lieing.
I like the reasoning behind that one It hardly looked like Diablo to me atleast.

It has been said... that in the end of all things... we would find a new beginning. But as the shadow once again crawls across our world... and the stench of terror drifts on a bitter wind... the people pray for strength and guidance. They should pray for the mercy of a swift death... for I've seen what the darkness hides!
... I don't think it's safe here.
Hoping for Pink Chain Lightning in D3!

Ok, please let this be the last time this is said, this thread is not the place to discuss the 3 mouthed demon, whether it be Belial, Diablo, or santa claus. That said the idea that the multiple mouths linking to to Belial to confuse them as to whether or not they are lying has merit, but is pure speculation at best with nothing in lore to support it.
Now I'd like to reply to Yeahbro and keep it on topic. Where did we hear about Azmodans death? I recall nothing about that. Where is Belial mentioned as the last of the lesser evils? I'm aware of two places where Belial is mentioned, and in both he's in conflict with a living Azmodan. Furthermore, Cain can't be Belial for these reasons: 1. his thoughts are in his journal. Unless that journal has been planted for someone else to read, I can't see it being Belial. 2. the lore panel states that Cain has been walking around for the last 20 years carrying guilt over what has happened. He wouldn't do that if he were Belial.

That is a good theory what with the lies and such. But if Cain is in the new game does that mean Belial has possessed him for 20 years? You think he would have bigger fish to fry. Maybe he left cain's body and let him live?
Nice theory, but it's speculation. For all we know they still have legions left.
I doubt any demon would still remain loyal to them after being defeated by a few mere mortals. Demons sense weakness and exploit it.
Wrong. A war that hs been lasting this long would have a lot of casualties. As such, they would be significantly reduced. That, and l repeat that last we heard Belial was doing poorly in the war, so I doubt it would be him.
We already know that demons cannot be slain for good. The victor would have all the time in hell to summon slain demons.

A demon will always seek to augment his power beyond that of his siblings, and if Belial became the sole ruler of hell I would imagine he would have many strong demonic magics and enchantments on hand. We have already seen the power that demonic enchantments can bear and we know that Belial seeks those enchantments in LoB. Imagine the enchantments one could sew with all of Hell's mages under you.

That is a remade diablo, for sure, looks rather similar

Funny, they found plenty of support after the last couple times they were defeated by mortals.
Now, I've already put in my 2 cents on the Cain=Belial theory. I the mean time, you still ignore the fact that last time we saw him, Belial was loosing to Azmodan. What is there that indicates that this has changed. That, and Belial was the one who screwed up Azmodan's plan, thus ruining the assault on Heaven. I don't see this guy as anything special.

Diablo was not defeated by the hero from D1, he possessed him. I think the whole epic dungeon quest that Diablo set up was intended to single out the strongest hero for corruption. There is no proof that Belial won the war in hell just like there is no proof that the prime evils will ever return. Belial has perhaps the most effective tool against mortals. You don't see the ruler of half of hell as special? My bet is that the primes may return in an expansion but I believe it is time for change, who wants to fight the same old demons?
Should make a thread with those theories, else I'd just get lost here, mark my words

Belial is Lord of Lie, I have not read the novel, but it is reasonable that he has many mounts so we will not know which one is lieing.
But it might be real form of Diablo or the brothers merged into one super demon.
