posted a message on D3 Barbarian Origin, Update on Lag in Public EU Games, Blue Posts
Honestly, I thought the whole point of it being a grizzled old Barbarian was for it to be the same one from D2. I'd rather he have been a Gladiator from Skovos or something if he's not the same guy I played before. Having him be some other Barbarian who happens to be the same age and such doesn't sit well with me.

That said, lore wise it's fine. He probably would still know Deckard from the events of LoD.

It could easily be that the order was simply not established during the events of Diablo 2. It's like in WoW, you'd think the Paladins had been around for many hundreds of years when in fact they were established fairly recently in the lore. The same could apply here.

Except we know when these Crusaders were established. The lore presented has them being an elite force of Paladins that was sent Eastwards while Rakkis was going west to found Westmarch.

posted a message on Archangel of Justice on Reaper of Souls
A plot hook that I think could be really interesting:
A Demon decides to take the mantle of Justice, although he calls it Vengeance.
The demon would be an anti hero character, no on likes him, in heaven, hell, or Sanctuary. As long as he has that mantle of vengeance, no Angle can take up justice. He would be brutal, not necessarily fair, but if someone calls on him to avenge themselves, a fallen loved one, or a simple offense, he'll make sure that retribution is swift. If that retribution brings out the need for more retribution, so much the better.

If an Angel can fall to Death or Wrath, why couldn't a Demon rise and twist a Vengeance Mantle into Justice?

posted a message on Malthael's reason behind stealing the black soulstone
My theory isn't too different: I think that Malthael thinks that the Black Soulstone could be the key to either reconstituting the original worldstone or it could be used to create a new one.

Perhaps Malthael believes that all of creation is destined to be destroyed so that a new universe can be created, and he feels that we're ready to hit the reset button.

There is perhaps a part of me that hopes that he does bring back some form of the world stone.

Not trying to complain, and I understand that the concept of the class hadn't really come into existence until recently, but my understanding is that when the other Paladins were heading West to Westmarch, these guys went east to fight corruption within Zakarum there. Which leaves me wanting Blizzard to tell me where they were while my Westmarchian Paladin was busy cleaning up Kurast from all that corruption. Like I said, I get why they wouldn't have been in Diablo 2 since they hadn't been thought of yet, but is it too much to expect for an alibi to be made up as to why they wouldn't have been cleaning up that mess?

posted a message on [Spoiler] Chris Metzen hints at future Expansion(s) direction
    Quote from Tyrian

Obviously this is all spoilers. Here's a direct quote from Chris Metzen from the CE DVD, referring to Leah:

It's tragic what happens to her. But I think the truth of Leah is she's innately heroic. She's a good person. But this evil was rooted at a genetic level. And the turn that her life takes was inevitable to some great degree.

When ultimately her turn comes, it feels terrible. We want you to feel like you've been socked in the gut, like you know, "anyone but her". (sic)

Her spirits still out there somewhere. There's a good girl there that deserves to be saved and... brought back from the Abyss.

While we don't have any clue yet what subsequent chapters will be, ah couple clues (sic) [Metzen winks and smiles at the camera], I'd bet that we would chase that down. Because it feels right from a story level, and it feels right from a character level.

What do you make of this? For those people who thought it was cruel for Blizzard to introduce Leah, allow you to grow fond of her, then off her so fast in tragic fashion - how would you feel about a potential expansion story arc themed along the lines of finding her soul?

What potential stories do you think could lie ahead for Leah, should she be featured in future story direction as Metzen hints at?

And keep in mind: As fun as it sounds to simply say "yeah - lets find Leah" - we know that any future expansion must have a compelling conflict to frame a story against. So would does the conflict come from?

I'm feeling a Death Themed Expansion. We've been to Hell (twice), we've been to Heaven, now let's go to the netherworld, the next world, the hereafter, or wherever dead people go. Let's go accross a Styx like River on a Ferry,. Let's explore various places in a world of the Dead, whether it be the Greek Underworld, Valhalla, the Happy Hunting Ground, who knows? Let's save the souls of Leah, and Aiden and Albrecht while we're at it, and have Cain pull an ObiWan. Maybe meet a few others from the past. Oh, and let them rest in peace. I'd rather they stayed dead.

I'd bet on both Malthael (as the Angel of Death since Tyrael stole his chair) and Trag'oul as major players, even adversaries (both could have been sent over the edge by the destruction of the Worldstone).

As for a class, well, this would be an ideal situation to bring back the Necro, if that's an option, but if not (I really do think that the WD has kinda replaced it), I can think of a few different options. A Black Knight (cross between a Death Knight and a Paladin, a protector of the Dead), a Priest (Egyptian style, big into life and death magic, creates golems, heals, and can do both light and Dark, gets into contests with Moses).

sounds like an expansion to me O_O

My thoughts exactly! Unless they can somehow unleash the prime evils from the black soulstone we need something to fight in the X-Pac.

The only other thing I can think of, other than Malthael or Tathamet, is perhaps a human, grown to powers on the same level as ours, who has chosen to try to fill in the void.

    Quote from ScP_Iodine

Speaking of possible expansions, if you watched the behind the scenes disc at the part where Metzen hints at Leahs spirit is still out there and it is still possible to save her. Hell he even said "spoilers" before he said that!

I'm not sure how that will play out seeing as how she no longer has a body. There were also Leah ghost in-game models data mined a while back, i wonder if the hero is still keeping in contact with Leah even after Adria's betrayal.

This is one reason why i watched the cinematics, because they don't tell you the entire story, theres still so many things that will pop up throughout the game that will lead to mass amounts of speculation.

I'm betting on a Death Themed Expansion. We get to find out where dead people go, see Leah, maybe even Cain, Aiden, some D1 and DII characters, etc. Fight Malthael, meet/fight/work for Trag'oul. Maybe even get the Necro back, or some other death themed class (Egyptian Magician/Priest type, Death Knight, who knows).

posted a message on [SPOILERS AND SPECULATIONS] Wrath cinematic
    Quote from InMinion

Imperius kills Diablo, I guess sometime long before the events of Diablo games. It was supposedly a trap masterminded by Diablo to shatter the unity of Angels. But what actually happened? Was not a whole point of angels to weaken the Hell as much as possible and killing (at least temporary) the biggest badass between demons to gain some edge in the war? Tyrael warns Imperius that Diablo will return in time, so the primes can or can't be killed? I'm confused, cause it makes the whole Great Conflict pointless, at least from the Angels perspective.

If it was just about weakening and killing eachother, yes the whole fight would be quite pointless. However, there is actually a higher purpose to the Great Conflict. Remember that up until the creation of Sanctuary, the whole point of the Great Conflict was the Eye of Ainu (or the World Stone). It has the powere to create worlds, and as such, who ever owns it may as well own the Universe, as they are the Creators. Whether those worlds are Paradises or Hells is dependant on who is using it. That's why the Great Conflict Ground to a halt when Inarius and Lillith stole it.

In the mean time, not only did Wrath show us Diablo sowing seeds of division among the Angiris Council, but it also helps us understand a bit of what Tyrael has been up to. He had the goal of Imprisoning the Evils, giving the Angels a strong tactical advantage. Imperius (or Impetuous, as he seems to be) screwed that up (it seems to me, that in both this and in the grand decision over the fate of Humanity, where he's perfectly willing to accept a tied up vote as enough clearance to destroy Humanity, that he is less than a team player and considers his will as supreme over the other Angels). Tyrael managed to get a second chance at imprisoning the Prime Evils with the Soulstones which we know was all a part of the Prime Evil's plans. Since Tyrael has been acting outside the Council's Wishes in that whole fiasco, it stands to reason that Imperious is going to be even more ticked at Tyrael for going behind his back in not only helping Humans, but imprisoning prime Evils instead of Killing them outright. All this, set up by Diablo, is going to tear the heavens apart.

posted a message on Think we'll get any more people working for us?
    Quote from Jackzor

IIRC (and I'm almost positive I heard something like this), one of the examples of "random quests/encounters" we got during Blizzcon was someone who asks you to go out and kill certain demons. I don't know if thats a general "Kill 10 Fallen" or a quest where you kill a specific demon, but they have said that they generally want to avoid general grinding, which would seem to contradict a quest where you have to kill a certain amount of a demon. Not to mention that if the quest was to kill a specific monster, that would probably involve you killing plenty of other monsters anyways.

As for the question in the topic, yes, I do think we'll get more people working for us. Both the followers and Artisans have been described as part of the caravan that follows the hero from town to town, and I doubt they'd refer to it as that if it was just two groups of people. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that the caravan contains more people.

Who do you see joining the caravan?

Seriously. First we find out that the Blacksmith, the Magical Items Vendor, and a Jeweler are all going to be following us around instead of being citizens of the towns we're visiting. Now we find out we're getting followers who go with us from town to town instead of us hiring local mercenaries? Add Deckard (and/or Leah probably) and we've got 7-8 people built into our camp. Are we even going to have towns in some areas? We've got a full entourage.

Not that I'm complaining. I fully intend on putting these people to work. I just find it interesting.

So here's the question: are we getting any more? Or do we have enough. If we do get more, who would they be and what would they be doing? A bard or minstrel who will sing and/or tell stories of your heroic deeds and make you famous (possibly you could get the chance to hear some of the stories about the quests you undertook, possibly with a wee bit o' embellishment)? A Healer who will patch you and/or your follower up when you get back into camp? A gambler (think Wirt)? A wench? The male equivalent thereof? A page who will follow you around and then run back to town to sell you junk items? A Quartermaster who is in charge of your stash?

    Thoughts anyone?

posted a message on Diablo 3 Followers Mechanics
    My initial thoughts:

Templar: I'm jealous. I wanted to play a knight archetype, not have it follow me around. I'm worried that this will prevent a knight class from being in an expansion. I could get used to having him around though.
Scoundrel: Star Wars RPG anyone? Interesting. Demon Hunter is enough that I don't feel too jealous. I'm interested in hearing his comments.
Enchantress: Cool. I'm a dude who usually plays as a dude, so I'm less jealous of this one. Could be fun to have around. Prophet storyline seems interesting.

Overall: I like it, although it seems like we're going to have a full entourage following us from place to place. I also do somewhat miss hirelings as they helped us get a feel for what kind of people were living in the town. Still, I like this idea. They better add a bard to my entourage to sing songs of my exploits.

The whole not much help after normal thing doesn't interest me much, as I don't play hell or nightmare really.

June sounds great, but I'm betting it will be pushed back. Probably to 2012. Seeing as how Virtual Reality failed, Blizzard will kick it up a notch, and release Diablo 3 in Actual Reality, bringing about the 2012 apocalypse predicted on the Mayan Calendar.

In all seriousness, I see it coming sometime next year.
