Hi guys, I posted this on the D3 forums and thought I'd share it here too. With rumors of 2.0 being released less than 2 weeks from now, I did another PTR copy to test out the latest version of crafting.
It’s about 50 minutes long because I wanted to show the process and explain some interesting finds and latest undocumented developments. I suggest you watch the whole thing (including the T1 facemelting near the end), but if you don’t have time here’s a summary:
TL;DR
- Shoulder, chest, and bracer slots will be replaced almost immediately. BiS items in these slots on Live are worthless.
- Shoulders: 300 main stat, 200 vit, need 1 more stat (AR/armor/life %) to make it better than anything out there now.
- Chest: 300 main stat, 200 vit, just need 3 sockets and AR or armor and you have a GG equivalent.
- Bracers: 300 main stat, all you need is crit and it’s better than 99% of items already. Doable in under 10 crafts. Add 200 vit + AR or armor and it’s BiS.
- Gloves will take a bit longer. You need 2 out of 3 CC/CD/AS. AS is nerfed in 2.0 on 60 rares, so if you have trifecta gloves you may be wearing them for a while.
- Amulets can’t (currently) be crafted in 2.0 because of the Forgotten Soul requirement (a higher end version of the Brimstone), so craft yourself a decent one now or buy one.
- Weapons and offhands aren’t really worth it because your chance of getting a double damage roll + socket + CD is very slim. Most weapons roll around 800 dps – hardly worth it.
- Demonic Essences appear to have a ‘conversion boost’. I did my PTR copy with around 600 and ended up with over 2000. Not sure if bug, Blizzard trolling, or legit, but that’s how it is right now.
- White items salvage into 3-10 Common Debris. This is the new required material for crafting rares.
- Load up on i63 white items. Ideal is ‘High Scabbard’ belt because it’s the only i63 item that takes up 1 slot, but unless you want to farm ~1000 of them just load up with any i63 items. Weapon/armor makes no difference – salvaging results are randomized.
- Buy up Exquisite Essences and Iridescent Tears in a 2:1 ratio (2 Essence: 1 Tear). If you’re crafting all 4 pieces, you need about 2:1.- Save up a decent chunk of gold. 100M should be enough to replace all 4 slots with near-BiS crafts. Personally I’m shooting to have 1B by the time RoS goes live.
I’m excited for 2.0 and I really hope we have 3-4 weeks to play with it, especially since items that drop (i.e. legendary weapons) will have value at 70 because you’ll be able to re-roll the damage stat.
Hope you guys like the video, I learned some interesting things while making it. This is my first one and longer than expected, but moving onward they will be shorter and more concise.

At the moment it's because Tomes of Secrets when copied over (my experience with PTR only), is they are converted to demonic essences. I visually confirmed this earlier today, it was a question I had noticed the last time I copied over.
I didin't watch the video yet, but as i read from the post, you suggested buying tears and essences for crafting, but i would like to add that ALL crafting mats (from normal, nightmare, hell) are converted to the highest ones (inferno), so if you plan on crafting in 2.0 and before RoS, it would be wise to just buy the cheapest ones out there (doesn't matter which difficulty ones). I myself have about 1000 white belts stacked up (ilvl 60-63), and when testing PTR i could craft ~200 items right off the bat, which was nice.
Nice topic tho and really informative.
The conversion rate of mats is not 1:1.
Also , its a very nice guide to those who do not intend to buy ROS.

I hope you didnt buy these white belts from the vendor because you cant salvage them in 2.0.
I am not gonna bother to craft AGAIN those 60 lvl items. I guess I will find upgrades till 70 lvl I suppose. The only good info I found here, is that worths to save your white drops in mules and salvage them in ROS.
Level 70 has new white crafting material ("Reusable Parts"). This "saving up white items" proposed here is only of use if your gear is so bad that the new crafting between 2.0.1 and RoS will provide you with upgrades.
Yeah, Reusable Parts will only be a result of salvaging post-D3V white items. There is no way to acquire any items that will salvage into Reusable Parts before the release of RoS.
- It was pointed out to me that tomes were in fact getting switched to DE's. Kind of annoying for those who spent time farming DE's, but it's ok. It just means that Common Debris is now the bottleneck.
- The idea behind the video is to maximize your character BETWEEN the time of 2.0 (rumored to be out in less than 2 weeks) and RoS release. Of course if you purchase RoS everything you currently have will be replaced in short order, but that doesn't mean you can't spend the time enjoying the game and getting those account-wide paragon levels quick.

Is there any point in maximizing a character for a period of 2-3 weeks?
I guess this goes back to the headstart I talked about in other threads. If you have MP 9-10 material, with near BiS, chances are you'll be able to start playing RoS at some of the highest difficulties (Master, Expert) and still stomp your way through levels 61-66. Not only benefitting from the improved drop ratios, but also leveling much faster and start getting lvl 70 drops much earlier.
I think the same applies to Paragon levels. People with a lot of levels will be able to boost their DPS and things like Life Regen/Life-on-Hit (which are very important since Lifesteal is gone) for an even easier time at those difficulties. These kind of players should probably easily be able to move into Torment I or II as soon as they unlock it, with very few gear pieces changed (things like Chest, Bracers, Shoulders, Boots are probably going to be replaced first for EHP).
This advantage will only last for so long. In the long run, a player with more time available to play will probably boost past ahead of anyone who had this kind of advantage. But it's still a very significant advantage imho.

By that logic, is there a point in playing on Live right now for the next week/week and a half? Considering the XP curve is significantly easier in 2.0?
Answer: because you can. A head start is a head start, no matter how small it may seem. Take paragon levels for instance. While P300 is a lot easier to achieve in 2.0, those who start at P300 will still be ahead ... by 300 levels.
I put together this video for you guys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLfvZRbE2YE

very nice. keep up the good work.
I assume this is a bug? If not, that's totally broken.
