Yet another topic, but for a reason. We had a vote a while ago in which the majority of people voted for keeping at least one auction house. Now, in the recent announcement, it seems like the overwhelming majority is in favor of this decision. I wonder if the community's opinion has just changed or if the AH lovers are hiding somewhere (or maybe cashing out right now ;-)).
We have plenty of discussion threads, so I don't want to start a new one here, but I'm really interested in some ballpark figures from this poll.
I voted #2 for now, but that's really just a gut reaction. I'm still reeling.
That's okay, my gut reaction was "OMG SUPER AMAZING" and I wasn't even an outspoken AH hater before, use it quite regularly. But I guess I never thought they would make this move. And I didn't even know why I reacted that way, at first.
Maybe it's because... me and my friends have been speculating whether or not we could have "managed" to stay away from the AH in RoS on our quest to go back to self-found, so this brought a sudden (and for me personally welcome) end to the debate
I *really* dislike that they moved real-world $$$ transactions to 3rd party sites. The whole point of the RMAH was to provide a safe platform for people who were going to p2w already. Regardless of the other things, the RAMH did this perfectly. I think this is a bad move, a step backwards. I, too, would love if fewer people felt the need to swipe the CC to win the game, but I really believe that players deserve a SAFE and SECURE platform to engage in this activity if they should choose.
Secondly, I haven't used the GAH in over seven months now. Frankly it's gone from the game for me. Whether or not they remove it has absolutely zero bearing on what I do. That being said, Josh had already said that they don't think the D2 style of trading was "good" - that you'd have to spend hours scouring forums, etc. to find a trade and then hope you didn't get scammed. D3s system is even worse than D2s. If they're going to revert us back to face-to-face trades they really need to allow us to name games, give us an improved chat interface, etc. Perhaps these things are in the works, but face-to-face trading in D3 is a god awful experience.
I voted no, but that's because they are currently talking about leaving non-AH trading in game. If they nix that too, then my vote will change to don't care.

...and if you disagree with me, you're probably <insert random ad hominem attack here>.
I voted for option 2. I'm fully on board with driving the emphasis heavily away from the AH but there needs to be a means to easily trade without spamming the chat window and hoping you reach an agreement with someone.
As long as it isn't used as the be-all-end-all argument in the future to say "x% of the playerbase definitely wants this!" Which it might, but it's still a good estimate of how people feel about it.
Also, holding my vote for now. I'm still thinking about how things will turn out, and choosing my side.
Don't worry too much about the similar threads now, it's so great to see people talking about all sorts of things regarding all the recent news (specially with the absence of news we've had for a couple months :fret:)
The beaten-wife syndrome evidenced today is truly hilarious.
People want so badly to believe in something which really hasn't existed in years, and will line up to be the first to give their money now that mean ol' hubby has changed his ways.
The GAH/RMAH were created to provide a safe method of trading as opposed to going to dodgy 3rd party sites.
With its removal that issue will return.
I hope that does not mean bots will be jumping in and out of games chat spamming gold/item selling websites like in D2!!!
If they are moving to a philosophy of 'play to win' then they need to at the very least have the top 0.1% of gear drops as BOA.
That way 99.9% of items can still be traded but you can never buy/trade the absolute best items in the game, you have to find them!!
- That is the Diablo game I want to play. Because if one of the 0.1% items drop for me in a game I will actually get excited when identifying it! Knowing that I could not get this item any other way than having a 'lucky drop'.
Haha keep dreaming. People at the top will have to spend even more time on 3th party sites to find the best trades. The real "winners" will play even less. But that does not concern you, you are not in that league.
Honestly I enjoyed making real money while playing a game I love, but I know that it did destroy a key component of what makes Diablo Diablo. I also know that this will not stop people from buying items for real money. This whole business of taking the AH down is just a temporary band-aid. Hopefully they reveal something better to take it's place.
As long as it isn't used as the be-all-end-all argument in the future to say "x% of the playerbase definitely wants this!" Which it might, but it's still a good estimate of how people feel about it.
Well, as it stands now, 0.000003% of the playerbase (people who bought D3) or 0.00003% of the active players (one login a month) definitely voted for liking this change! ;-)
Nah, just like the other poll it doesn't say much, remember how our poll results differed from that over at that other fansite? But then, we also know that DiabloFans comprises much more mature users... ;-)
I'm just interested in numbers as the first reactions (~one hour after the thread) where overwhelmingly positive. And this is a truly historic event, in my opinion, so it would be interesting to repeat this in 1-2 years and see who wants the AH back.
Everything is not black and white after a first glance. There are reasons that, without having to be explained, it makes sense to remove the AH. On the other side of the coin however, they're taking something out of the game that had many positive effects beyond item trading.
My initial feeling about the removal is generally positive, but to be clear, if Blizzard drops the ball when it comes to gold sinks, item trading, community interaction and the integrity of the players, its quite possible that the game ends up in a worse state than it is now from a community standpoint, despite direct player gratification being (most likely) increased.
I really do hope that Blizzard can keep those issues under control. Until we get more concrete info and see how it plays out in game, it's Scrödinger's Diablo 3.

Have they said anything about new crafting materials that will be Diablo 3`s "Ist rune" ?
As we will need some kind of currency items other than gold

All of this is possible with AH too, just needs a little self discipline.
