If RoS will bring an overhaul to the crafting system, and maybe require crafting materials also for Enchanting (we don't know this for sure), wouldn't it be smart to stockpile at least a few Exquisite Essences, Iridescent Tears, and Fiery Brimstones now that they're dirt cheap?
A couple things to consider.
What we do know:
= White items will be a crafting material.
= Blacksmith (crafting) will receive tweaks.
= Demonic Essences will be likely used in the process
What we don't know (so let's discuss and speculate that?):
= Are we going to get a new "tier" of crafting materials, that only drops from 61-70? And which will be used for the new high-end items?
= Would that be the most logical design path? Would it be bettter because it would require that people farmed those from scratch (instead using of the buttload that exist today in the economy)?
= If not, would the Mystic use the current crafting materials for Enchanting? Or just gold/DEs?
Now these are all going down in value. Is this related to the increase in people farming, and hence an increase of supply/offer? Or are people with stockpiled "old" materials getting rid of them and sitting on as much gold as they can?
No one can answer pretty much any question asked in the forums in the past week+... we still ask them and speculate nonetheless.
Having said that, i have the solution which will solve al your problems.
You're kinda worrying that if you start to hoard, all ur stuff could become useless, but if you don't bet on it, you will lose out on billions.
Actually, I'm not worried about losing on Billions.
I'm worried that I might have to "buy" those billions in the GAH to make good use the crafting and enchanting mechanic
also, inferno is inferno. in inferno, there drops inferno mats, not mats from hell
That's precisely what I thought as well. I really don't think they're gonna add another tier of materials.
I'm going the opposite way. I'm tossing/selling everything I'm not using and only keeping items and materials that I'll need for sure come expansion (gear, potions, Angelic Wings). I managed to clean out my first stash page minus some self-found essences, tears and tomes. My second page has a couple rows of crafts that can be amazing if enchanted by the mystic. My third page is 66% full of dyes and low level twink gear
I think you're missing the fact that gems are currently crafting materials. I see that being the biggest inflation proof item currently in the game.
Considering you need a gem to enchant with the mystic, and the better the gem, the better the enchant, expect Radiant Star Gems to start disappearing at an unheard of rate.
Demonic Essences will be used, but might either be upgraded to a new similar account bound crafting stat or will only drop once your character reaches level 70 (if you buy RoS, of course).
I think the Mystic will use lots of gold. But maybe also gems and/or new crafting materials... who knows ;-)
But there's also that screenshot of something that's legendary, it has two stacks and looks like bones. Maybe the new legendary material?
I kinda think that was something different. Who would keep crafting material in their inventory, especially if you can craft stuff with having the mats in your stash?
= Are we going to get a new "tier" of crafting materials, that only drops from 61-70? And which will be used for the new high-end items?
I would expect the answer to be yes we will get new tier of crafting material for items 64-70. It would be nice to have the new crafted items to also require a little bit of the current top tier items to help drain the economy of them. We can't forget though, not everyone will buy the expansion and of those that do, some will prefer current game to expansion. Even as popular as LoD was, there was a sizeable contignent of players who prefered d2 vanilla.

Personally I would like to see a whole new set of crafting materials for the mystic.
If you're going to hoard gems, hoard flawless squares. You don't have the gold crafting costs invested in gems, so you're free to buy more, and you're not losing 15% of your gold crafting costs to the auction house either.
You can keep stacks of 10k in the auction house under your completed tab.
Then you can craft as you need during the patch, or sell what you need for the gold. I'm selling all of my gems right now during this spike, I figure when there is a release date they will start falling pretty dramatically in price.
I've started buying radiant star rubys as the new hero is a strength class..so naturally that will drive prices up. I'm also getting twink gear together for leveling my crusader. pretty much all set for xp gear..just need to get some pieces that will be swapped in as I level up quickly.
I haven't really kept any gear for crafting purposes as from the blue post its only going to affect that affix and the ilvl will not change. So i imagine changing that one affix on the mempo to crit wont save it from being overpowered by a high level item eventually.

It was a screenshot from someone playing RoS. Most likely they weren't able to craft. Judging that its stackable its either the new DE or the new brimstone.
Personally I would like to see a whole new set of crafting materials for the mystic.
That's a pretty interesting possibility as well.
If in order to make use of the Mystic, people will have to buy RoS, they could just make new crafting materials just for the Mystic (and then have items give materials either to Crafting or Enchanting, depending on where you "dismantle" them).
I also wonder how things are going to work when you're playing with friends that do not have the RoS expansion. We won't be able to join the same games? We won't be able to trade them ilvl 70 items? We won't be able to even drop items on the ground?
So many doubts... I just hope Blizzcon isn't just to answer those, and actually gives us news on new unannounced features.

I.e like electing out of stupid cut scenes, character babbling, and so on. I just wanna kill stuff, don't bore me!
and for the love of god just give me some better form of PVP!
Im sure DEs will have a new use in the expansion. Im stockpiling them until the expansion. As far as the rest of your questions, who knows. we'll find out soon enough.
I've saved 104 DEs in the last two days of farming, my DH went from 59 to almost 70 (500M exp a day). It's been easier to group now with the expansion and my buddy list is vibrant again. Hopefully get her to 100 in under three weeks and collect 500 more? Then onto gearing an OP barb to paragon 100. Would be nice to get 1000+ DEs and hope they end up being useful. The alternative would be to use them and craft level 60 equips that will be obsolete anyways, so don't see why not.

Time to buy 50 thousand of each mat then

Time to start hoarding Radiant Star Gems too!!!! I'm gonna hoard everything...
