As time went by and you learned the extent of the damage why didn’t you shut down the servers?
Didn’t this inhibit your ability to perform a rollback?
Was there ever a real possibility of a rollback?
Was this mainly because of the RMAH?
Part 2
371 trillion Screenshot was photo-shopped. I can buy that. If you know this for sure I am guessing you have an approximation of how much gold was duped by how many accounts. Please tell us. Transparency would go a long way with reasonable adults at this time.
With careful consideration you have chosen not to perform a rollback at this time. OK
Give us more details. We know you can deal with the duping accounts.
How are you going to handle all the items that were purchased with this duped gold?
Are you planning on reversing all of yesterdays GMAH purchases? (I think this is a good idea)
What are you going to do about gold that was traded through the window?
With answers to these questions even if they are not what I want to hear I think I could deal with this. Without these answers my trust is kind of shot, I think others feel the same way.
I don't have my authenitcator with me or this would be on the Blizzard forums. Would you like these questions answered? Do you care?
I don't particularly need any of the questions answered. If there's an exploit abound I do what I assume most normal people would - I wouldn't exploit, risking my account. Especially considering the amount of games and time soaked into it.
I can answer one of your questions though. Transparency will not help anyone in this matter. You, me or any other player have absolutely 0 power over these sorts of decisions, so knowing the exact details is pointless, closing in on "just stirring things up", which is good for neither us, nor the company. And no, we're not reasonable adults. You really even think that? What, you don't visit the official forums? Facebook?
I don't particularly need any of the questions answered.
I do, or at least would really appreciate some of these questions answered. I would want to know just what kind of economic monster I'm up against. When I farm, I'd like to know what kind of market I'm selling into.

Is Valve transparent? Is Bioware? Nintendo?
I am a reasonable adult. Knowing these answers would help me. Not a lot, but it would help. This is a rather large screw up. I can't think of one that compares to be honest. I vote with my wallet. This event and how they handle it will impact the likelyhood I will spend money with Blizzard in the future. I could care less about nerfs or class/balance issues ect. How they handle a fiasco of this magnitude, how honest and or transparent they are are matters to me. This is not the 90s. There is a ton of quality competition for my software entertainment dollars.

Fallacy spotted.
Seriously, it doesn't matter how others act, you just used an argumentum ad populum.

Full disclosure only further creates compromises. I agree....let them handle the issue as they see fit. To whatever end that takes us, I'll trust they know best since I'm not a fly on the wall at Blizz HQ.
Correct....We can discuss Blizzard and Diablo 3 issues/questions and concerns here though. I am sure a mod will let us know if this is an inappropriate discussion for these forums.
Personally, I don't need any of the OP's questions answered. From a narrow, personal perspective, I could care less about the GAH/RMAH & the so-called economy. I play D3 for 4 reasons: interact with my 'friends', kill monsters, get a chance to see that beautiful bronze cone of light (don't care if it's crap or not), & most importantly (for me) HAVE FUN

Same. I get the sense that, the people who are most upset about what happened, are people who spend more time in the Auction House than the actual game. I dont necessarily see anything wrong with that, Ive definitely had my uses of the AH. But the AH, to some people, completely overshadows the fact theyre actually in a video game where you can kill things and enjoy yourself. A lot of people are so on edge about this gold thing and i really cant relate. Its almost humorous to me, really. But, to each their own. I would be completely miserable if all i did was worry about the D3 economy all day.
A lot of people have forgotten there was an AWESOME patch, which i just got to try out for the first time.

Who cares man, sometimes you can judge the basis of validity on colleagues and peers actions. The fact is, they don't have to do anything. You're not a damn shareholder. This isnt a stock holders meeting. If Dorito's decided they were going to change the fucking cheese formula on their chips do you think they would have to have a press release about it if someone found out? The fact theyre doing anything about the snafu is better than nothing. The proof is truly in the pudding on this one, so when we get the AH back, then we can start to draw some conclusions about what damage has been done or what the state of the economy might really be like.
And these producers, do they have rmah's? Kind of a serious question.
Valve does, you're able to sell certain Dota 2 items on a marketplace for money, which can only be spent on steam as it is bound to your steam wallet. Still an RMAH though.

Bashiok - Blizzard Representative - 08/01/2011 -"So how many skill combinations are there now? Well taking into account 6 active skills, all the rune combinations, and 3 passives we currently expect each class to have roughly 2,285,814,795,264 different build combinations."
"Hey, I thought you'd like the witty irony of grub-on-glowie violence!"

I care, but I'm also patient. I realize that it all comes out in the wash, so to speak.
Many of your questions have already been given preliminary answers @Bnet by a blue.
They left a remark that bothered me greatly. That the option for a rollback is still on the table should things not square out after the AH goes live again. This troubles me. Since they didn't implement a rollback immediately (or in a timely manner), my assumption was that they had confidence this issue is capable of being mitigated.
In my excitement over the positive changes in the patch, I stacked on 2 1/2 para lvl's since the patch went live (p85-p87 1/2). Luckily I haven't crafted anything of mention, nor found any significant drops. Still, I would certainly not be pleased with a 48 hour rollback after all that XP.
Some EU ppl are talking about losing xp and shit... first off if there is a rollback it's US only and secondly if u did nothing just chill, who gives a fuck about some idiots duping, it's their ass on the line...

Those Who Do Not Know True Pain Cannot Possibly Understand True Peace...
Patience is not something that runs in the Blizzard community. I swear I have never seen people who are so reactionary. Everything that happens is met by the biggest knee-jerk reaction since the last incident. It's like watching any of the 24/7 news networks where you're constanly being fed outrage. It's like watching Nancy Grace where everyone is deemed guilty before they've even had a trial.
We, at least in the USA, don't care about anything unless it's something to get up in arms about. It's nonstop scare tactics, even the weather. BIG SNOWSTORM!!!!! Then you get an inch of snow. We are used to people who tell us what's going on in the world shooting from the hip and the fact checking coming afterwards when it doesn't matter.
Constant overexaggeration plagues our media and there's no real shock that it is pervasive in other communities.
Seriously, it doesn't matter how others act, you just used an argumentum ad populum.
Not a fallacy. A valid argument considered a fallacy by you.
You really think the decision to be transparent or not doesn't take into account the reality of gaming companies?
You naively believe that if every single company was 100% transparent about everything, Blizzard would ignore that and be the only one to not share any information?
Considering the reality/situation of your competition in a certain area of the economy is a huge factor for the decisions made (check the local restaurants' similar behaviours for reference). Unless of course you wanna go bankrupt.
I'm glad they prefer to focus efforts on revolutionizing gaming development, and not enterprise management (by disclosing all their insider information to a bunch of unreasonable and ignorant players).

I just want to jump in here and say that I always appreciate it when someone points out a logical fallacy (especially using that old school terminology!), and Indimix does a good job of it in general. In fact, that was ALL he was doing; he didn't actually voice an opinion about transparency and whether or not he is personally in favor of it. Pointing out fallacies like this one is good for an argument, as it keeps the argument on track and tends to mitigate hyperbole.
I'm not voicing an opinion about transparency, either. However, I also would like lots of the OP's questions answered, and as Ruksak pointed out, they most likely all WILL be answered in due time. Seems like what the OP really wants is those questions answered right now, and that's probably not going to happen; Blizzard's next update on this issue is currently 3.5 hours late and counting.

i would choose my own religion and worship my own spirit, but if he ever preached to me i wouldn't want to hear it. i'd drop him, a forgotten god, languishing in shame; and then if i hit stormy seas, i'd have myself to blame.

Saying something is a fallacy without going into its merit would be the logical fallacy. He actually dived into the merit when he said "it doesn't matter how others act" - that's his opinion right there. I just tried to point out that in real life business (you know, the one which people study and work years of their life to get into - not the "forum theorycrafting") things doesn't work with such simple mentality.
I'm not voicing an opinion about transparency, either.
Neither am I. I honestly couldn't care less. I was just pointing out important surrounding facts to that particular discussion.
