I almost played again today for the first time since 2 months. Then I remembered what I was gonna do if I started a game, farm gold to be able to buy loot on the AH...
The biggest fun of D2 was this, finding loot. How could blizz forget about that. We are not playing to find super sexy weapons anymore, we play so we can get gold or hopefully find a decent item to put on AH to get even more gold to buy what we need.
So guess what, after I logged on for 30 seconds, I logged off right after. Hopefully in a couple of month blizz will get this right and the millions of people who dropped this game might pick it up again.
My 2 cents.
So considering there's 3 different sets of main-stat based gear (Dex, int, str), and tank items / dps items (resistances / vit vs dmg stats), you'd rather not have an AH aviable to sell that super mega awesome drop you got, so you can buy an item for your class that's usefull? I mean, I'd rather get a 100M crossbow as a barb and be able to sell it to buy a 100M 1H, than I'd get a crossbow I know is fucking insane for a DH, but can't use for anything.
Biggest problem of D2, gold was useless and I mean that literally, there was literally nothing we could do with gold So I guess that problem they fixed.
Next step, fixing the item hunt to those who think it's broken (which I believe wouldn't be broken to someone who never used the AH, which boosts item finding efficiency by tenfold).
As far as I'm concerned, I just wished they boosted Legendary drop rate, while still keeping very random stats, so the absolute best would still be pretty rare and expensive, but we would have much better access to the low tier legendaries to have some fun with unique affixes

Thats not true dude. My friend had a gold find barb that could get hundreds of thousands of gold in one travincal run. Used for gamble purposes ofcourse. It was just another thing you could spend time on. The gear was mega expensive because the merc had to do all the kills while you kept leaping to knock everybody back.
I treat the AH in D3 just like my pool off unused high runes on my non-ladder characters back in d2. Whenever i started playing again, i could buy a few cheap items for the leveling up proccess and then when im done i can invest in some serious gear. So the AH solved that issue and made it less complicated and tedious. I think its great.
So many don't remember how D2 went through a lot of the "This isn't Diablo (1), not even close!!" and things finally cooled down after patch 1.10 and LoD xpac and it became the jewel of the franchise, perhaps the company (yes, I've heard of WoW). Gold was a joke in D2.
Diablo 3 definately made gold worthwhile and it's got the hungry players and a solid foundation. Blizzard has shown that they listen to feedback re: D3 and take it seriously. I don't care who says what to who used to work where whenever (#twitterwars) if it gets me a better D3 product.
I also commend them on the RMAH (the third rail of gaming). I can't imagine how much the lawyers made dealing with the implications, legal and financially, but I'd think it would support a small country. Buying/selling gold and items has been around for almost 20 years in gaming and it's time someone took it out of the shadows.
I look forward to 1.04 and bigger and better things to come!

I came in here to say exactly that. +1 good sir. Apparently there is no happy medium in gaming.....just extremes and people love to bitch......so....yeah
Also, as someone whom really appreciates this site (I love it actually), thank you soooo much for the recent closures of pointless "QQ" (completely negative) threads that seemed to only be created to taunt those of us whom are playing and enjoy this game. Everyone should be able to voice their opinions but the destructive and trollish threads from people only wanting to espouse their hatred of D3 need to be purged from this site.
Please continue to immediately close threads of an unproductive and trollish nature. Thank you to the staff fro stepping up the aggression in this respect.

Totally forgot about gambling. Still, I think we always had much more gold than we could possibly spend on it (at least I remember selling dumb stuff with +2 to a given skill for 50k).
Maybe I never did spend enough gold on gambling. Didn't think it was very exciting because it didn't involve killing things
the coin item needs to be essentially useless yet still worth a damn
so nat mark is probably not a good example. more like justice lantern or something gay.
i also think charms is one of the things they holding back on.
anyway, they will come up with new shit for us all to grind, and if gold value blows out, then we will use something else to trade big amounts
i'll give 1.04 a try first. If i still cant find a godly item by weekend, im off to GW2 until next D3 major patch.
what's ironic is that say they changed the drop rates so much that you DO find something godly by this weekend, well it won't sell for as much as you thought and you'll still complain (because now alot more people are finding good items driving prices down).
basically you might as well just quit now and save yourself the time

How was gold being useless in d2 a problem if we didnt need it because LOOT dropped. That's what we wanted, thats what we played for and thats how we got fun out of the game.

That's right, it got better after 1.10. Do you know how long that took ? Blizz had more then 8 years to make this game and it's a mess. Unexcusable.
I would have agreed with you maybe a month ago about upgrades only through AH but lately as I progress further, kill things faster, loot drops buffed and gain mf I feel like I'm starting to get into some worth while items.
My ring on the left side, and necklace were both drops I'm pretty happy with. I also don't play a crazy amount. I feel like loot is getting better if not fine now.
I do not ever want to revert to a game without a stable, meaningful, currency though. Trading in D2 was in my opinion terrible. So terrible that people went to sites to handle it a lot of the time, and not because it was a better deal, it was just easier. I don't feel like you NEED to use the AH as much anymore.

100m = 1 nat mark
10 marks for a manticore
We'll see how that works out. The old set bonus is pretty OP.
Good Nat's Marks are way over 100m btw.

"I don't wanna play the game anymore because it takes effort to accumulate the best items in the game."
If people like you are really dropping the game because of this, more power to you. The less irrational whiney people, the better.
