Call me crazy. But in my personal opinion, I believe that blizzard has given away a bit too much information away on the game. No, i'm not talking about the story line, Im referring to posting the skills, items, monsters, artisans on their website.
I was a alot younger when I started to play Diablo 1 and 2. The fact that i Knew absolutely nothing before playing each of these games led to a very full, exciting experience. Whether it was finding some crazy looking piece of jewelry or casting meteor for the first time, I had no idea what to expect and this just enticed me to play more and more.
Now it just seems like they have given away a whole bunch of information on the game itself. People have even started creating their character builds before the game has even been released! Not to mention, we have access to information on some of the monsters, items etc. I refuse to even look at the items, artisans, skills or anything. I want it to be a big surprise the first time I play this game.
I think blizzard has given too much information away but thats just my opinion. What do you guys think?
I think that if they would not give that much information, people would be bitching about it.
Thats the problem, I don't agree with them keeping us up to date on every step of the game-making process. They should have just announced the game, had the beta, gotten the feedback from it and released. Now they have to hear tons of criticism and people are demanding that certain things be changed, altered etc.
I think part of the reason they have done it, is to appease the public since the game has been delayed longer than they expected. I really don't mind it because the info is there IF you choose to view it and also at the bottom of every page it says subject to change, so everything I have read could be completely different when the game launches.
If someone doesn't want to learn about or otherwise spoil the game, they can always, you know, not look at websites that contain information about the game. Bashiok actually revealed a few weeks back that he very intentionally does not read about games he is interested in, in order to maximize the initial experience.
D3 is defiantly the first game they've given us this much in depth look at, and I have a feeling afterwords they won't do anything near this again. The amount of rage is ridiculous, because most don't understand that when making a game, no one has a blueprint that they just give coders. Developers have to try many, many things out to see if they will work. And by try it doesn't mean pass around a piece of paper, it means fully implementing it into the game and testing it.
If I was Blizzard, I wouldn't waste my time telling the public step by step what we are doing. I'd keep as silent as 2008-2011 was.
I also agree with Crysto37; Seeing a list of items is kind of disheartening. Luckily the list up on Bnet is nowhere near a fraction of what'l be in game (according to Bashiok) so hopefully they don't update it until after release. Because at this moment the only thing left is the story (parts of it ) and zones (again, only parts now). Going into the game with some mystery makes it that much better.
All in all, I would be very surprised if Blizzard decided to do this type of in depth look again; Expect to see closed doors.
I agree. Thats why I don't read anything about skills/runes/gems/builds etc. I want to explore it myself. I don't want to spoil the best time in the game - when you're a total noob and everyting is fresh and exciting. Last time it was in WoW 5 years ago, oh, I miss this feeling so much...
I'm glad they released the info, without it as well as feedback from the beta, A lot of changes that need to be made wouldnt have been made, and are still being made as we speak. The community gives its feedback, its voice, it lets blizzard know what the fanbase wants from their game. It's essential. Even if it wasn't all glamorous as it is as a whole entire page of crazy info, Just written out is enough for blizzard to take that knowledge and work off it.
You don't need to spoil the game, That's your own doing. Just don't read it, some people like me and others enjoy looking at this stuff. I breathe in new D3 info every day, it's what keeps me going until the game is actually launched.
Guys and girls. Don't worry. Looking at the bath is not the same as taking it. It is a completely different feeling. Think about that info you get in this way and you will be fine
