I know we can't see the item drop itself, but can we a log of what everyone picks up. As in, Player3 has picked up [Buriza-do Kyanon]?
I think it would help and would facilitate trading on the spot as someone might pick items that are needed by party members.
Good thought. A log would be nice, or something that just pops up and then blurs away 2 seconds later. I don't want it to flood my screen though. If it had its own separate tab we could click over to that would be great. I don't know the answer though.
Privately, it would ease trust issue with friends. Public; however, it would be unfortunate. I'm not sure I want to advertise my unique drops to my three acquaintices and have them immidiately beg for it or demand it because "it's for their class."

I trust my friends but I want to know what public people get. It doesn't always have to involve begging, people can offer a legitimate trade and you don't have to advertise what you got every time you get an item you consider un-needed. Perhaps you found a sub-par crossbow that you'd throw, but it's actually an upgrade for the DH in your group. If he didn't see what you got you'd just trash it.
- I would be concerned about how much real estate on my screen would be used for this mechanic. While I actually love this idea, if you're playing with 3 other players and they each pick up, say, 5 items total (gold, junk axe, rune, gem, etc) then you're going to have several sentences of "Player X picked up XXX" across the screen.
Maybe if it all incorporated a filtering process so you could choose to only see when other players pick up magical, or legendary items, or misc items...what have you.
Like the concept. Have to work out the details though!
Yeah, I definitely wouldn't want that too. Don't take me wrong, I understand your opinion and why you have it, but personally, I wouldn't like it too.
From a design standpoint, I believe the choice to have individual drops is already to reduce any sort of controversy and promote absolute cooperation, so I don't think they would go a step back and show everyone's drops, fueling controversy between strangers again.
Plus, if everything goes ok, when you're "playing with strangers" you'll hardly want to give them items just to speed up that run, ideally you wanna sell it in one of the Auction Houses.
While it's easy to say "I wouldn't beg, there's no need to worry", most people aren't that reasonable, and many might even troll the game once they don't get a drop given to them.

Excellent idea, a filter would be great, and it should be set to Magical items and up on default I guess.

I think its a pretty cool idea but what Zero(ps) said makes sense
If it were to be introduced then it would definitely need a filter system
But wy would anyone even think about trading items with you on the spot when they can get money for it in the RMAH? That's about the only problem I have with the RMAH. They would probably trade it for an item for there class of equal standard. But this would probably just be a problem at the end game. Still I feel like there's a problem with it. One of the reasons Bashiok mentioned wy people would like to keep you alive in a party was that you might get an item that someone else want. But if you can make money by selling it, wy then bother trading it there and then with someone you've played a couple of hours with? I myself can see that it would be a good thing to do because if you get farther in the game he or she might trade something with you. But can you really take that chance? I don't know. I think that because of this players will rather play with friends rather then with people they don't know.
The thing is that with an AH you now have some sort of "standard value" even if it fluctuates. You could potentially buy that magic weapon the other player dropped cheaper, or trade an item for another item that if you sold it for gold to the AH (assuming the gold AH) it would be less.
I hope not. As it is now, trading an item is entirely in the hands of the person who the item dropped for. If I'm playing a wizard and something drops that is obviously for a barbarian, I could sell it, keep it, or offer to trade it to a barbarian in the group. No one is going to hassle me about trading for the item, and if I just toss it, no one is the wiser. I think that in seeing what has dropped for everyone, the game will feel less cooperative, because there will constantly be people throwing away items that other people might want, and we'll see it every time.
Well I was going to make a post tonight buuuut you beat me to it. My point was a bit different though. See you can't even comprehend what happens if you make such an option possible. First if you allow it to be an option then people will begin to ban those who don't use such a feature. If you make the feature always on then anytime someone sees something they want, or something that sells well on the RMAH people will demand a roll. All this does is stop the flow of action which spits in the face of making everyone's loot random.
There's going to be a chat log. There has to be. Adding a separate 'chat window' option for loot would be a good compromise. This way it isn't obtrusive, people who don't want to see the info don't have to, but the info is there.
I'm of the opinion that having the option to receive more information is never a bad thing as long as it isn't obtrusive.

I would usually agree if it didn't clash with Blizzard's intentions.
Say for instance that I'm running a dungeon with people and I keep the chat log up, and notice an item I really want to sell on the RMAH. So I now want to bring it up and let everyone have a "fair" share at getting the valuable item. I don't need it, but hey he isn't using it so why can't I sell it. Now the other two in the group want the guy to let us all have a chance at the item.
He probably could just leave and not have to deal with it, but this interrupts game flow and that is precisely why Blizzard wouldn't want it. If the RMAH wasn't in the game you would probably have more of a reason but people would want the option to hide there drops, and if that happened others would be unhappy that its being hidden.

I don't think the RMAH makes a diffirence. I seriously think public broadcastig of loot would ruin the system either way.
Ex. ((message: Proletaria picks up "AWSOME 2h MACE")) and i'm a WD. Barbarian in my party instantly hits the ceiling and starts offering me whatever happens to be in his stash. I'm annoyed.
If I want to offer this mace to the barb, that's my perrogative. Similarly, I really don't want to see my WD loot dropping for that barb because that too would simply annoy me. If he wants to offer the item to me for sale/trade, great. Otherwise, it may as well not exist to me.

I agree. If I wanna let peeps know what I got I'll tell 'em... If I wanna know what they got I'll ask em...

Oh I agree no matter how it works out things are going to be difficult even without RMAH, but with RMAH it will be slightly more complicated. Now items carry even more weight, possible investment actually. In a sense imagine items now as stock options, to those who want to sell stuff anyhow, now they want that gear because it can have actual value not just value to another toon. That is sort of what I was getting at with my previous post.
Other than that we totally are in agreement.
