I just bought a laptop and am wondering if I will be able to run Diablo 3 relatively smooth. I don't care about graphics too much, I just wanna know if I can run it wide screen and smooth (without lag).
Here are my specs:
Intel I3
2.13 GHz
4GB DDR3 RAM
16" Screen
Mobile Intel HM55 Express Chipset
1366 x 768 Native Resolution
It runs Doom 3 pretty well and condition zero is alright when I use D3D settings. I'm hoping that I can run Diablo 3 on minimum wide screen graphics.
Dude, it should be able to run Diablo III on max settings. Lol. But since no one has system reqs for the game yet, you're not going to get a completely reliable answer.
I've never heard of any integrated graphics chip that can run Doom 3. Condition Zero is considerably less demanding than Doom 3, so if that's having trouble then I doubt you'll be able to run Diablo 3 without major frame loss. No one knows what the sys reqs are for Diablo 3, but you can assume they'll be around the ballpark for what's already required for World of Warcraft.
Yeah I dunno, its a brand new laptop with an integrated video card but it runs Doom 3 really smooth on recommended settings. It also runs WC3 pretty smooth. I can't imagine D3 being extremely demanding, but I would just love the comfort of knowing I'll be able to play.
Yeah, you'll be able to run it in that low-mid setting range with good fps, no questions asked.
For an even better experience though, I'd suggest a dedicated video card of at least a 9800GT. Everything else in your system seems fine to run it at what I would guess is a solid middle performance setting.
But like it was pointed out by Seth, the requirements aren't out yet, so we're all just making educated (or not :P) guesses.
Almost certain that you'll be able to run D3 with those specifications no problems there. With regards to lag in widescreen I find that in most games it is the anti aliasing that gives me the biggest lag problems on my laptop. You've got pretty much the same specifications as me except I've got a GeForce 9300 gfx card instead of the integrated chipset.
I sure hope that you'll be able to run it because if you can't then I'm not sure if I'll be able to either!
Arbitrary and unsubstantiated use of numbers goes to Airandius!
Facts:
- Modding WC3 is not counted as "being in the industry."
- Archie, myself, and probably several other people in this thread know their computer hardware just as well as your "nerd friends."
Blizzard scale their games incredibly well on older or less prepared machines. It's impossible to say exactly what kind of requirements Diablo 3 will require. You may be right that his integrated graphics simply cannot handle the game. But you also may be absolutely wrong, considering he says it runs Doom 3 (much bigger poly count than Titan Quest) smoothly. And integrated graphic chipsets use the system memory instead of dedicated memory, so it largely depends on his RAM (which he has plenty of). It's obviously a newer laptop.
No one can say anything for sure. I'm sure the OP will have to obviously play on the lowest possible settings (if at all) and, perhaps if possible, tweak the game to use an older DX version.
I can run WoW without any lag at all, however, my computer crashes often (no idea why?) and I get WoW errors, but thats literally if I sit on my ass and play for hours (which I rarely do)
but I currently uninstalled cuz' it took so much space, I only have like 35gb
So my question is, would I have enough space for Diablo 3 (I have like 16 GB rights now)
First of all, both wc3 and wow are very old games with extremely low poly models. Hence they require much less.
I judge that the amount in polies (parts of a model that need to be rendered) are at least 8 times that of what you see in wc3. Hence the requirements are at least 8x higher for a card.
Not only that but skins will also be rendered more and perhaps at a higher pixel ratio (like wc3 uses 265x265 if I'm not mistaken, diablo 3 might use 512x512 or higher, this also increases the requirements).
Sure it's guesswork but the requirements for D3 might range around 10x higher then that of wc3.
(No worries here fr most people, wc3 requires a 8mb card, so it would mean a 128mb card should have enough. But this is a guess, realistically it could be much higher and I'm totally ignoring the psu. And don't forget, the amount of mb's is only half of what a gpu needs. Speed is just as important.)
Second, laptops are junk for gaming.
I have a 512mb non integrated card in my laptop, a 4300 series of Ati.
Sure it's not strong but it's a hell a lot stronger then what he has.
Looking at all this it's easy to assume the minimum the card will need to play D3 might be a card with 128mb of gpu ram with some decent speeds.
It's more likely it will be a 256mb card for some smooth performance on low/medium settings.
Facts:
- I have been in the model and skin industry w/e. I did do some modding with wc3.
- I know things about gpu's, I have nerd friends and have been known to be one in the past.
To answer your question from a professional view (not a omgz all computers will be able to play d3 it looks so horribleeeeeee).
Maybe.
You have a laptop, so anything you have in there (specs) can be cut by 20% and you'll have the realistic amount of performance you can expect for games.
Aside from that, your integrated chip is horrible. I mean for gaming of course.
So yeh, you might be able to play it at low settings (you have a horrible screen resolution btw, i have it to and most games, yes even new ones, don;t support it proper and will strech like mad).
Your chances that it will play smooth however are low. I would say 40% chance.
I don't think that blizz will make a game that you have to play on a gaming pc in order not to have any lag. Some people myself included cannot afford to have a PC with water cooling and 2 dedicated GFX cards. If your laptop is like ancient, from the late 90's or something then you might have trouble but I'm sure there will be many graphics options to turn off or on as your rig permits.
A good example is the Star Trek online game that has an option to halve the resolution. This (for me) massively increases performance and I had almost no lag at all.
In answer to Agent101's question, I think that you may need a little more space than that to comfortably install any modern game and not have your OS drive tell you its full all the time. If you can afford it I would suggest upgrading your hard drive or buying a cheap external and moving some data over to that.
Seriously, I think people here really need to look this up again: SC2 Beta. You know, there is a game that is released relatively close to D3... with the same goal in mind... Run on a lot of different computer... They said that themselves. Sure, the game will not require -exactly the same thing-, but they have similar optimization goals.
You guys are comparing to a bunch of old games like it matters. -Everyone can get their hands on the SC2 beta-. So try it for god sakes instead of comparing it to WoW or Doom 3, which is not going to tell you anything. WoW is a pathetically optimized game (because thats what happens when you take a old engine and try to "upgrade" it, it gets worse and worse). Doom 3 is just too hard to relate to.
I'm saying it again: Guess however you want, I see absolutely no better way to see how your PC will perform on D3 than to try SC2. But you can keep comparing like that and never have a real idea of how your computer will run it, if you so desire...
Also asking for Disk Space is a bit ridiculous. Who knows? SC2 beta takes 1 GB and a half right now. The games won't magically take 30 GB of space. Expect 10-15 gb at most.
What I was going to do waas Delete Aion (simply cuz' I only play games for a lil while with the exception of games I really liked, I.E. diablo series) and get 16GB back on my computer, have 20 something left on my computer, install diablo, and then do w/e
I already told you, WoW, Warhamer and Aion are low requirement games because they use low poly environments and low resolution skins and effects. (and etc)
I can tell just by looking at videos that D3 will render more polies on screen then any of those games at the same time.
Next comes the skins and effects, while hard to see there is a good chance that they are sharper then those of WoW. (Very huge strain on gpu power.)
The fact you can play a 7 year old game does in no way support that you can play a 2012 game even if it will be a low requirement game. (Yes in the end the time spam from WoW to D3 will be 9 years. Do you even remember what kind of computers were high end 7 years ago? Well they are worth less then 100 dollars by now.) I hope you can at least understand how silly that sounds.
Sure you can choose not to believe somebody that knows it, you'll run in that wall called facts and real life soon enough.
At the same time D3 uses objects that can move around by physics, this causes a lot of strain (but sure they might turn that off) but still.
WoW requirements will not be the same as D3 requirements.
Because D3 has far higher graphics then WoW, and very very low settings wont make it work because low settings do have a limit of how low. (Low settings of D3 might still be 2x more demanding then WoW lowest settings.)
Ah nevermind, you will face the facts soon enough, I don't have the time to educate kids that wont listen.
eh that helped quite a bit, however, I have ran Call of Duty Modern Warfare on my computer at one point, it lagged a lil, but that was it, and you may not believe me due to the fact that I install and uninstall / buy and pretty much waste my money but I actually borrow a lot of games from my friends, and give them back, and shit like that, pretty much this computer is only used for pretty much testing games for like a few months to a year or something like that...
I dunno, cuz' I know when I play WoW, it lags like a bitch at points when theirs high amount of players / insane amount of aoe / graphics..
I know that Diablo 3 only has 4 play MAX, with the same graphic equivalent (on low) and WoWs highest settings (ofc this is a guess, but I'm just taking a look at the game from a few gameplay videos)

Oh I'm sure it can, if I can play WoW, Warhammer, and Aion, I'm sure Diablo 3 will be NP I update that shit every 2 years
