I was thinking that the Witch Doctor skills will be more applicable on a Lich, I mean Witch Doctor is about healing people with magic, But a Lich he is the master of controlling the undead and zombies.

I think your font colors and size are really annoying. And no, witch doctor is a fine name.

Witch Doctors in real life are also about spirits and evil entities. They also use all sorts of poisons and drugs to induce some sick trances. Witch doctor fits exactly the kind of character they made. Lich is an undead that has it's heart hidden somewhere. He is more about having to power to damage the living and impose an evil wrath on the righteous. Witch Doctor sounds tribal and more human. I like the name, it's short, cool to say and it brings up a lot of badass images
A Lich is a highly-evil mythical being. The characters we play are not supposed to be monsters to Sanctuary, they are supposed to be defenders of Sanctuary and humanity. I disagree.
As Seth pointed out, the lich is evil. And this is a hero of the Diablo franchise. He may dabble in a few dark arts but he is definitely not a lich. A lich would help Diablo.

The problem here is that a witch doctor can also live in a voodoo culture, so saying voodoo doctor is obsolete.
No. It's not obsolete.
Witch Doctor are SPIRITUAL leaders. They make rituals of good fortune and defends a good life in harmony with the ancestrals and natural spirits. Theres abslutly nothing to do with hexes and summoning the undead.
...
The only reason the Witch Doctor have curses is because a defensive class would be boring and because ppl don't really care about the connections of a game and our real world. Still, I think the WD should have some suportive skills.
Well... put on Trang-Ouls set and ya turn into a Lich.
Actually a Vampire, but thats a lich if i ever saw one.
Even w/o the set, he is still a necro.
Necromancers are generally evil characters.
None of the above mattered though, because it was just a very cool class with lots of different builds.
Necro > Witchdoctor... but thats beating a dead horse.
*EDIT*
Taking from the Arreat Summit, details the Necros Transformation character, the Vampire, aka the D2 Lich...
These hellspawn were first summoned by the sorcerer Horazon to guard his Arcane Sanctuary. Possessed of the demonic fire that fuels Hell itself, they cast vicious fireballs at their victims to consume the living flesh from the bones they covet to conduct their dark experiments. Their touch is filled with the cold unlife of the grave that will slow even the healthiest of adventurers.
Trag'Oul (or Trang'Oul, as the game mistypes it) is a dragon composed of stars, not a Lich (and yes, it's Vampire, not a Lich, as you noted). That was an unfortunate misdirection of the game.
A Necromancer, while stereotypically "evil", is still human. A lich is not and therefor would not fight for humanity in any form.

Thank you for recognizing the difference between a vampire and a lich
I might humbly suggest that a lich would fight for itself above anything else, and if the lich and humanity have a common goal, the lich may dupe the human race into helping him/her/it, so long as they continue to share a goal. But i would agree that Lichs (lich's? Liches?) are commonly evil, so it's a big stretch to call them a "Hero."
I lost my D2 manual a long time ago, but i recall the Necromancers story having a lot to do with spiritual balance, though the grim nature of their craft led common people to believe they were "evil."
Long story short, Witch Doctor is a fine name for the class.

That's what usually happens with good witch doctors. When some decide to go beserk, they can turn all that good into bad. Hypnotism is seen in their culture as an evil practice, but there has been some documented events where witch doctors used hypnosis techniques to force people to commit either suicide or murder. They also have great knowledge about body anatomy and spirituality. I can assure you that a witch doctor who decides to use his abilities to harm people can be very dangerous. Much like a doctor who becomes a cannibal (Silence of the lambs anyone?). Now the D3 witch doctor is not an african witch doctor, he's more like a mix between a voodoo shaman and an african bushman.
It is not obsolete as the 2 are completely different. Witch Doctor and Voodoo Doctor are names made up by us to separate all kinds of shamans/healers (which is their true definition).
Except that I personnally never heard of a voodoo doctor, isn't it a voodoo shaman? The correct term for witch doctor is Sangomas but I don't think blizz will use it
Obsolete isn't even the correct term to be using.
Obsolete is when something becomes outdated or is no longer used anymore.
You're right, I should have used another word.... lets say redundant/unnecessary.
I wouldn't say witch doctor>lich, it's just not fair. The only thing you can say is that they're not equal. A lich is a lich and a witch doctor is a witch doctor. The two are what they are and in D3 a witch doctor suits the universe of sanctuary a lot more than an undead being.

ha ha. I agree, i think witch doctor is cou.
*applauds* You're improving, my apprentice!
Witch Doctor is alright in my book.
Rise and rise again, until lambs become lions
Your rubbing off on me

Sorry, i ramble sometime.

Actually, if you were able to read properly, you would se that I did say it was a Vampire.
Everyone who plays D2 calls it a Lich, "...aka D2 Lich"
Anyway, I had the book handy.
"...Although his goals are often alligned with those of the forces of light, some believe that these ends cannot justify his foul means."
So after all this rabble, Lich would absolutely be out of place.
P.S. Voodoo sounds lame, besides, Witch Doctor is here to stay... hope that kills this thread.
There are Witch Doctors and Voodoo Witch Doctors.
And btw, haven't we all moved on from RL V. Diablo?
Obsolete is when something becomes outdated or is no longer used anymore.
Anyway, I think the debate is over.. Witch Doctor > Lich

to bad... Sangomas sounds really cool in spanish
