Some not very reliable youtuber claimed new gems were added this patch, but that datamine was 2 patch's ago, those gems have been in the game files for quite some time (fire and arcane gem + some other random ones, one of them has a face in it)
i assume you're refering to those
would be cool to have new leg gems, but tbh like the above poster already mentioned what would we need? i would prefer if the weaker gems were buffed a bit instead.
The gems are there but no strings are added to them, they are just pixels. And as far as beta goes i have a feeling they will not be added with the Necro.

Yeah that video is what I was referring to. Thanks!
B: Not sure what other gems there are to add... we've got a pet one, a poison one, a frost one, a physical one and even a generator one.
Can't really think of any build that the Necro has, which would require a gem we don't already have.
Don't forget the thorns gem... will probably use that with pet builds that grant the pets your thorns damage.
Agree that we probably have sufficient gems to use with the necro for now. I just hope there's a viable build that doesn't require BotT... pretty sick of having to use that gem in everything.

Eh, even with the Thorns gem, the Passive and the Legendary, I don't think Thorns wil work for Necro.
I mean, to make Thorns work you need something like the Invoker's set, which MASSIVELY boosts your thorns damage and gives it an offensive use. I can't see a Necro ThornPet build working, outside of MAYBE LoN, or some other very niche build.

^This, also not to mention Necros main stat is intelligence, therefore it will be missing about 15,000% dmg multiplier from the strength (rough estimate of average strength with about 1500 paragon) that a barb or crusader gets. Thorns WILL NOT be a viable build at least for anything remotely high level.

Thorns is boosted by main stat, it doesn't matter if it's str or dex or int, that said i don't think thorns necro will work unless pets can somehow apply thorns on hit.

Main stat isn't the issue here... It's not just the fact they have str that makes Thornsaber's viable, it's the set with gives them 800% thorns damage on each melee, and makes thorns hit in an AoE that makes them able to clear anything about 20.
Without some way to proc a large % of their thorns on every attack, Necro Thorn will never be a viable build.
@Kal: Really is this true?! Any one test and confirm or any blue posts about that? I thought it was strength specifically.
@Talyn: there are more viable and better thorns builds than Invokers. The damage boost form main stat is far superior and account for an order of magnitude more dmg output than the dmg buff from Invokers does. E.g LoN Pony bomber or frenzy thorns barb with Hack
I was just using Invoker's as an example, to illustrate that you need more than what Necro currently have to make Thorns viable.
So would LoN Petthorn be viable? Possibly, but with (so far) no runes for any skills that support Thorns (like used in LoN Pony), I still think the damage would be lacking.
To support Kallizk's comment, assuming that DiabloWiki is correct:
Thorns damage is increased by your primary attribute, 1% per point, as any other damage.
TIL, thanks for the confirmation!

I do agree that thorns most likely won't be viable for some of the same reasons you list. Specifically because there's no thorns dmg modifier on offensive abilities. Would be cool if on command skeleton/skeletal mage, there was one...
That could totally work. Something like "Iron Golem: Your golem applies X% of your thorns on every hit. On use: Explodes, dealing Y% of your thorns to everyone in range."
after reading all these comments i still wonder about the caption of this topic. what are necromancer gems and why should there be any? are there barb gems or wizard gems or any class specific ones? i don't think so. so why sould there be any specific necro gem in the game?
He meant necro "patch" gems obviously.

They have not done anything to any of the other classes or items during the Beta.
However, that does not mean nothing will be done. My guess is the legendary gems will be later, but the fact they even have a design for them certainly means they are coming, just have to find out when, and pray they have a large affect on the end game diversity.

So are there no new Legendary Gems coming with the release of 2.6? Or are they just not in the game right now?
A: They'd probably already be in the game by now, if they were going to add them,

We'll see if it at least hits T13. I'd like that at the very least so I get a good run out of the starter set before trying something else.
