The Three Tenants of The Hashshashin Brotherhood
Tenant 1: Stay your blade from the flesh of the innocent
Tenant 2: Hide in plain sight. Let the people mask you that you become one with the crowd
Well, if you're down with a new D2 experience, have you ever considered the Eastern Sun mod ?
When I started playing it I was completely bored of D2, and this completely refreshed the game and got me hooked again.
And if you want to fuck off from D2, maybe give the Baldurs Gate games a try ? Or Icewind dale, both are pretty similar. Baldurs gate has a WAY better storyline, but Icewind Dale has more character customization, take yer pick.
Both should be available from used games stores, thats where I found the copies I currently own.

two games i play on my pos laptop is
Conquer Online
Dungeon Runners
conquer online is kind of a grind fest.
Dungeon runners seems like it has nothing. But it is seperated in acts, you have to kill the boss of each "act" to get to the next one. so there is a lot more than it seems like.
i personally have played Baldurs Gate on the PS2 its a good game/series but i dont know if there is multiplayer for the pc. as for Rev6604's suggestion, i thank you for it, but i like a more fast pased hack n' slash gamestyle.
I will be looking into the eastern sun mod, it sounds interesting. thank you Zhar.

@ Ryu
I'm actually not a fan of the Median XL mod, and there are quite a few people who played it who have switched over to ES.
I personally just didn't like the skill system, seemed too.... bland.
Oh well, to each his own.
@ OP
You might like MXL though, it's a pretty decent mod I must admit.
edit: And about the game Oblivion that was suggested earlier, since your machine probably can't run it, perhaps look into it's predecessor ?
In case you don't know what it is, it's Morrowind.
If you're anything like me, you'll like it WAY more than Oblivion. The story was so much better, combat system was better, leveling system was better, there was more space to play in, as well as MANY more quests.
Only thing worse was the graphics (Durr), but it still blew Oblivion right out of the water.
Should be able to find it at any used games store, it was quite popular so there are quite a few copies out there.
And should you be lucky to get your hands on the expansion packs as well, you've got 200+ hours of gameplay in store.
The expansion pack Bloodmoon is a must, definitely the most fun game experience I've had. In it, you oversee the making of a mining colony on a borderline-arctic island. This island is inhabited by nordic warriors, and werewolves, who shit ruin all over your town quite frequently. There are also tons of side quests to be completed, and shitloads of new equipment.
Tribunal (other expansion) was still pretty good, but Bloodmoon was much better.

On second thought. Dont get NoX. The thing is a fucking mission to run
Errors, compatibility issues and massive screen flickering
Get the adapted nox file... And, really, setting compatibility to windows whatever on your shortcut isn't that terrible. In the worst case scenario, set it windowed. And he has an old comp, anyway.
Nox isn't much of an SP game, though. It's pretty short. It's more PvP geared.

Anywho, heres a link to the database, which contains all the info on the game, as well as a download link. http://homepage3.nifty.com/miyoshino/es/es3top.htm

Others not-so-great games but worth playing are:
Neverwinter nights 2
Titan quest
Scared 2
IWD2
Diablo 2: "Median XL" (mod, IMO wayyyyyyy better than eastern sun)
Oblivion
