If you haven't read anything by Robin Hobb, I strongly recommend her work. Assassin's Apprentice and its subsequent books are wonderful as are all the books she has. The way she builds and develops her characters is wonderful and her writing has a certain grace to it that is rarely seen.
I second this big time. All her series within the The Realm of the Elderlings are in my all-time favorite list. There are currently four series of three books each (the last volume in the latest trilogy is not out yet though).
As stated above one of her biggest strengths is the way she develops the characters, once you get into the story and get attached to the characters you are stuck. It's so grasping and you can really feel the emotions of the main character.
It's so hard to try to explain why I love these books, but anyway, I think you get my point.. I've got a huge emotional bond to them and have even re-read them several times. So if you like to read some really good fantasy based novels then Robin Hobb is my number one recommendation. (be aware though that the books are quite long, and there's four trilogies, although being separate stories they take place in the same world and in chronological order).
She also writes under the pseudonym Megan Lindholm. I've been thinking about starting in on all the books she's written under that name. You know anything about them? I just finished the first 2 books in her current (Robin Hobb) trilogy. They're amazing.

The Wheel of Time. Greatest series ever, and the next book is coming out this Tuesday!!!
This sounds really interesting, I'm definitely getting this!
Awesome! Just remember to read them in order, otherwise it makes no sense. Also, the first book should be very easy to get into, the first 200 pages are very Tolkienesque in their style I've been told.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
Yeah it does take time before you know what's really going on. I'll admit, I dragged myself through the first 200 pages (the first time mind you) before I actually started to like it.

My favorite would have to be the Demonata Series by Darren Shan.

Yea, I haven't read any of her Megan books, but I've also had thoughts about checking them out since her Hobb books are so great.
I read the last book some month ago and yes, it's cool. It's amazing how involved you get in the world she created.. And the way she continues the timeline while keeping the trilogies separate stories. <3
I'm reading the Bourne trilogy and it's amazing. The way his two personalities argue is great.
I fell in love with the "His Dark Materials" series when I was a child, I guess that's my all-time favourite. If you saw "The Golden Compass" (the first book) in the cinema, it's nothing like it, the movie sucks big time. I couldn't even watch it all.
YES! I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE! I'm reading Bearers of the Black Staff still. I feel like he lost some of his style over the years. My favorite of the old Shannara series will always be the Voyage of the Jerle Shannara, and then the Word and Void trilogy. The new ones are alright, but eh.
The funny thing is that he wrote Sword first, then he started W/V, not even thinking he'd ever connect the two and now, all these years later, here he is, doing just that. I was a poster at the Shannara fansite before I was ever here. That was back in...2005? 2006?
I haven't been reading much lately (SC2 takes up all my time) so I didn't know he came out with a new book. I'm definitely going to have to get it. I agree the books he first wrote are not like the ones he writes now but I think of it more as an evolution of his writing. I like the older style but I also like his newer style. At first I really disliked the Void trilogy but quickly got into it. Then when he started to link things up with the Genesis of Shannara I fell in love. Loved that trilogy. I think my favourite would also be the Voyage of the Jerle Shannara. It's a great read and I've read those three books many times over. According to his website he'll be writing another trilogy placed after the High Druid ones. Definitely looking forward to that.
Have you read any of his Landover books? I haven't read any of those.

sweeeeeet, yea the movie stinked. What would you think ur daemon would be if you could see it? lol
I myself have started reading "The Summer Tree" by Guy Gavriel Kay. It's a good fantasy read so far, I'm waiting to see how the deeper themes of the plot play out.
Scar Tissue - Anthony Kiedis' autobiography was amazing, but I'm a HUGE fanboy of the chili peppers, but even still that book is ridiculous crazy. That book gives a new connotation to the phrase "sex, drugs, and rock n' roll."
Interview With The Vampire - Just an amazing book. Easy read and great character development.

i did like the lotr as well but they are something i cant see me reading and reading all over again like brandon sandersons novels. the mistborn series were by far some of the greatest books i have read. unlike all the drizzt do urden books i have read, sanderson killed off a lot of the original cast of characters within in 3 books and not 15. good books would be something that brings you into the story. like when a main character does something heroic you feel proud for him, or when a great character dies in the book and for some reason you are crying(i have done this lol at the end of the mistborn series lol). brings you also into battles and gives you great detail what is happening. also, a great description of the characters and towns should be a great and never leave anything out:)

The Hobbit is probably my favorite book of all time. I read it in almost no time but got bored by the first section of the Fellowship and by the time I was going to start reading the series again the movies had come out so I just watched those instead. I honestly don't have a good explanation for why I enjoyed The Hobbit so much while not liking Fellowship, but thats just how it worked out
