"When Jerald Spangenberg collapsed and died in the middle of a quest in an online game, his daughter embarked on a quest of her own: to let her father's gaming friends know that he hadn't just decided to desert them. It wasn't easy, because she didn't have her father's "World of Warcraft" password."
how is that funny at all... its just the author trying to be clever
lots of people have mates on the internet who they consider super close. i have personally never played WoW or even seen it on a computer but i know that heaps of people spend lots of time on it. in that time they naturally get close and the daughter obviously had enough respect in her to recognize that. she set out to do something her father would want her to do
i can see of no greater way to honour the dead than to tell their friends that they have died.
Honestly, that's kinda interesting... Wonder if there are any free ones. >.> Considering my family history... *Sighs.*
i think everyone worries that one day they might not be able to see their friends. like if someone just stopped coming to these forums we would have no idea
I've known some people online for over 7 years..but that's just it..I know them as internet friends..nothing really deep going on..if such friend died..I'd be like "wow..man..that sucks" but I wouldn't really get bothered as if it were an actual 7 year old friend that knows everything about me, and I know everything about him.
i wish there were some free ones.i could make one no problem, but a total of 5 people would sign up, and it wouldnt b worth it.
but, it does make u think. i get on at 7:00 pm every night with 150 gamers. we freak out when someone doesnt show 1 day. friendships built over the internet are just as important as in real life now, especially if u "meet" over ventrilo or something. these sights are a good idea, but they really need to get the word out.

Yea, I know I've had some online friends that I'd be sad if I didn't say goodbye to...
Internet friendships can get very serious for someone who doesn't have many real ones available. If someone I care about online died I wouldn't be over it very fast, especially certain people, and there was one guy I actually met in real life.

There are only two people on here that I would not care about if they died. Actually I'd be quite glad... The rest I'd either be devestated, for one, think wtf...that sucks major monkey nuts, for others, and then be like damn, and move on, for the rest.
Though...I'd actually end up throwing a party if two of the people on here died. (Yea, I'm a nice guy so I'd invite everyone here to the party. )
I think you make stronger Internet friendships over Instant messengers, in-game chat or Ventrilo than you do on Forums. I suppose some people just need friends more than others
I used to feel that way, back in the good ol' days of 24/7 Diablo II with some really awesome friends. Whole clan routine, worked for a few years. I gave up caring because people stopped being around. It really does hurt at first, especially after investing so much time, but you get over it.

I agree with this. I mean IM over games and instant messanger allow easier covnersations, plus if you're doing it over gaming, it allows an area of common between the two people so they have something to relate to.
I'd have to admit, if it wasn't for some of the 5hour chats on DII I had with maggie, I don't think we'd be as near as good of friends on here as we are now.

I don't why. It's just that I don't. Maybe he should.... I don't know. It's a hard question.
