For a diablo movie, i'd have to say CGI, it'll have to be CGI if they want a lot of action in the movie. I guess they could do a mix of both but it would look awkward with the transition between and I'd rather they pick one method and use it throughout.

"I'm like a dog chasing cars." - Joker, Dark Knight
CGI alone is too fake, and puppets alone are too puppetty.
Nice point . But don't you diss (puppet) Yoda, nobody messes with a Jedi Master, son.
But will they do it well?
That would depend on the production/Imagery Company and the Director. Weta Workshop I think should be able to do something cool, some of George Lucas' CGI team's stuff looks crap.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
They should avoid using CGI when it comes to humans, aka Bewulf... where they all looked like zombies because of how empty their eyes were. The artistic value was fine but it felt awkward nevertheless.
Old horror movies were more terrifying despite using bloody puppet-like monsters, opposed to not so scary CGI monsters from these days. CGI is a tool and should be used accordingly. Gollum from the LotR is the only exception that comes to my mind, where CGI finally delivered something realistically human and credible, behaviour-wise.
Techinically, Gollum was a mix of both- the real body was done by an actor. All the CGI did was put on stage make-up. A classic case of both working together to create something breath-taking.
I prefer puppets... I was really disappointed by the CGI Cluster Lizard in LEXX 2 compared to the nice puppet one in LEXX 1. In fact, the CGI lizard didn't even give a shadow. o.O
Old Star Wars often looked much more real than new Star Wars, as well. I am not too confident in their 3D modeling skills for the moment...

Agreed... and the updated versions Georgey forced on us reflected that fact. The only good thing about those new editions were the panoramic shots of Mos Eisley, Cloud City, etc... the new creature effects, particularly the extended music/dance scene at Jabba's lair really sucked ass.
Well when talking about a Blizzard Movie, CGI comes first in mind. I don't want 7 men puppeting Diablo....or Tom Cruise as Arthas......or Orlando Bloom with makeup playing Zeratul........
Alright, now on Star Wars, I prefer CGI over Animatronics, the puppet Yoda reminded me of a mouse fidgeting alot for some reason...CGI made him more serious in my opinion
Right. Well, the point is technology is getting better and better, and puppets stay puppets. CGI, or whatever its futuristic equivalent will be, will most certainly out do puppets. The problems you guys are mentioning, like missing shadows, pixelation, unrealistic movement- those are all problems that are getting smaller and smaller, and will most likely be gone very soon. With the new supercomputers based on Sony's cell processor technology, things will become more and more realistic. Right now we're just in a time of transition and improvement.
Animatronic, though i think that both of them have good pro's and con's, with new tech. and the problems with Animatronics slowly fading out, it will win...the future always does.

That would be godly.

example? see The Thing. Then imagine it made today, where everything would be CGI, and tell me how much worse it would be.
