"Actually we have talked about some of the canceled games that we have started over the years. Prior to working on Starcraft, we were working on a game called NOMAD. It was never announced but we did start working on it, we did start developing this sort of post-apocalyptic universe [that was gonna be the] setting for this game... I'm sorry this was after Starcraft, this was... Right after we worked on Starcraft, we started working on this game NOMAD, and a little while into it we said, 'You know, it's just not really doing it for us, we're having problems, not really with the world design, the gameplay's not really coming together. If we were going to start up a new project right now, today, what project would we work on? Would we work on NOMAD, or would we work on something else?' And we all said 'We would work on something else.' and we said 'Well what would that be?' and it looks like [?], 'We would do a massively multiplayer Warcraft game', and we said 'Well, why aren't we doing that?', so, there you go."

I like the idea of something with modern technology in a global disaster... possibly with the occult, like HG:L? Robotics like Terminator: Salvation? Anarchic gangs like Mad Max? Could be fun...
It would be very typical and cookie-cutter as far as apocalyptic settings go, yes. It would be interesting, though, since they haven't done it before. If they did it right and learned from Flagship Studio's mistakes and gathered the collective successes of others in the genre (both as a game genre and a story setting genre), that is.
blizzard could do like sony did and release a free to play mmo. but i really hope if they did they don't do like Flagship Studios did in offer life time membership. that sunk the game company do to no new income.
What are some settings unexplored by Blizzard? They don't have anything set in a comparably-modern time period, so I like the idea of painting a picture of the 2030s or 40s.
The game better start with "A"
I noticed on the Blizzard store site where you choose to shop by the 3 "universes", the 3 games/universes start with W, S and D.
So make it start with a and we have the typical gaming controls W A S D.
lol thats my main thought, and it better be epic and kick-ass.

Sooo, all we know is that it doesnt have anything to do with the previous genres(starcraft, warcraft, diablo, lost vikings) as they said.
The remaining possible themes are--- Steampunk, Real life(sims etc) , matrix, space related, some kind of fps mmo(past, present or future)...
I'd like to see some of your guys's ideas.

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able, and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God. -Epicurus-Athiests- Winning since 33 A.D
Watch ~20 first concept arts under category "Personal". Could those concept arts be from the new mmo? Those are not under category "starcraft" like other starcraft concept arts are and the shots dont look starcraftish except those starships look like protos ships.
Two things.
One: I hate you africa, I've been stuck reading the Starcraft Wiki for 6 hours because of you!
Two: If this MMO is unannounced, how do people know about it?

Lots of people play WoW. Lots of people have quit WoW. Blizzard logs complaints/comments when you close your WoW account - they even include a nifty drop down with some of the more popular topics to help ease the player into providing feedback.
So what do they do with all of this information? A veritable library of complaints and whatnot against WoW's design.
Here's what they do.
They sit down with some key development personel at a giant table, order some sushi, and read through this information. And then they put their heads together to create a brand new MMO that recaptures the audience that they lost (those who quit WoW)
This way, they're not competing with their current MMO, and they get some more monthly fees which are currently lost with people not happy with WoW.
Genius.
One thing I'm willing to bet on, their new MMO will be more action-oriented than WoW, and will be more than press 1, 2, 2, 2, 3. It may also deviate from the heal/tank/dps make-up for groups.
since they have a fantasy game (WoW,WarCraft), a dark fantasy (Diablo), and a Sci Fi (StarCraft) the main thing i can think of is a more modern setting. its a long shot if i'm right but i'm thinking a war base game like MAG the new MMORPG for PS3.

you should only get to fight ppl within 10 lvls of you unless they hit you =3
and add spell armor of some sort so magic arent cheap one shots lol
though if ya said something modern then i think they could have guns and stuff in an mmo
with bombs and rockets and all sorts of fun stuff xD
Be my Buddy =^.^=

We'll see.
we have a mmo, rpg, and a rts.
maybe a first person shooter
