Eh maybe the shoulder armor, pauldrons, are a little big. But the necro had huge skull/spikes on his shoulder for some armor types in D2. I guess this just doesn't really bother me.

What is cartoony about Diablo 3????? I don't get it. Someone please show me a picture that makes Diablo 3 look cartoony.
The only colors allowed in real life are grey, brown, and black. The only games worth playing only use these three colors. Behold the massive, gorgeous, blockbuster Hellgate:
Blargh, someone posted a before and after now I have to post one too
Oh, I forgot the puce walls and cyan floors and orange robes and pink skeletons:

Im sorry to say this but your bias against Roper caused because of your fanatic, or lets just say "strong" opinions seems a bit too obvious to me. Do you realize that you are bashing the person who worked on pretty much every single Blizzard game so far, including even D1? I think just not WoW.
Which strong opinions are those? That an okay voice actor and lying PR guy doesn't deserve as much attention as Bill gets? Or the one that memes aren't news and belong in forums, not news posts? (Why aren't we talking about Longcat here instead, srsly?) Or the one that there are gamma and contrast sliders, and are other assured means to reduce color and saturation?
Well, here is a lie from March 2008. Back when the Hellgate forums were hidden from the public and required you to log in to a beta or retail account. And back when there were Hellgate forums:
And there was always hyperbole behind his sales pitches.
When there's guys in the world like Jeff Strain (a man who is very candid that the subscription model is not required to cover bandwidth costs, and is something we all know) or any one of the Arena.net guys who built the backbone of the multiplayer systems used for the later Blizzard games... it seems perverse we're treating a voice actor and PR guy like a diva.
"Well, they should just play online" - Bill Roper, in response to complaints of Hellgate singleplayer being several patches behind multiplayer.
Also there is nowhere that shiny in D1. On that ss i guess there is no light radius and cursor is on king leoric so he have red outerline. Also there is huge arcane power that gives light to the room. That ss has to be taken from a modded D1 i think.
For your comments about Bill Roper, he wasn't the man behind Diablo and Diablo II. I don't mind his words about HG:L singleplayer. That game was not Diablo you know.
i stilll like those "how it should look like" pictures up there more

they'll never see me coming.. life is a sequence of tragedies, inconsistent only by fleeting, elusive moments of pleasure,
serving only to ensure absolute vulnerability to the pain of their inevitable absence.
So if its going to be almost too dark to see when its supposed to be light, how are we supposed to see when the game goes towards hell and is in an area that is actually grey and dark (ie Arreat Crater). The game will get to that point of darkness, but making it so it starts off like that simply doesn't add up.
That environment isn't going for a gritty mood, it's going for an eerie mood. It invokes this mood better than any environment in either of the previous games. Expertly done.
I dunno. I do kinda want things a little more "dirty" but I wouldn't call it "gritty". D2 was gritty but I don't want that, D2 kinda just looked like 1/4 pixels were black or gray or something.
In like the post Murderface showed and Doppel quoted. The stones on the ground the wizard are standing on look really smooth, not too rough at all.
I'd like for them to look a little rougher, more chips in them or something.
Anyway it's not gonna ruin the game for me but <shrugs>

Do you dislike something about DIII so far?
I don't think so. You would love even hellgate london if "Silicon and Synapse" made it.
Meh, eerie has nothing to do with Diablo, and i don't believe they went for this mood either. I believe this is the "darker" places of D3 and it just feels way too clean and "watercolory" for me, it just feels Tim Burton to me instead of David Cronenberg. Its just a preference.
I pretty much agree, especially in that scene. Some of inside the church looks a lot less clean though. I still think they're working on it.
I'm sure that they probably won't be adding little details until closer to completion or maybe by when they finish areas. I think maybe more people should look at it as a "work in progress". I don't think anyone can deny though the progression of the original screenshots to the ones now; things don't look as bright or colorful as we first saw. Also; I'd imagine Tristram or the areas they've shown must be early on in the game simply for the fact that they are done...so no...I personally don't believe that this is even remotely close to how "dark" things will get.
I don't like those modifications much. First, they sort of function as surface AA and remove the lines, so it looks better without being much anything. Second, most of it is just darkening. That's not a style and really isn't what I want to see. I want to see a developed darker STYLE but that doesn't translate to "less bright colors" at all.

In wow forums someone made a thread and asked to describe Diablo I and Diablo 2 in four words or less.
Bashok's reply:
"Killing demons for loot. "
Honestly, my impression of Bashiok is that of a relatively controllable 14-year old who somehow got the moderation rights and Blizzard's blue color. Most of his posts are ridiculous and highly condescending. What is this guy's real name, btw?
But you assume the things we haven't seen are there, i only point towards the lack of these things as of now and make a personal guess based on what we did get to see.
You gotta admit though, this picture doesn't look as clean as the foggy "dark" one.
I think they're going the right direction, I like how the floors look in this picture. cracks, chips, seemingly no real pattern to it.
Also there is nowhere that shiny in D1. On that ss i guess there is no light radius and cursor is on king leoric so he have red outerline. Also there is huge arcane power that gives light to the room. That ss has to be taken from a modded D1 i think.
Actually, that's a promotional D1 shot released by Blizzard.
Dimebog, or anyone else, instead of talking about that stupid single screenshot, could you please concentrate on this here which i really think is a better look on the subject:
In all honesty the D1 artwork looks like an 80s cartoon and I don't see what is "dark and gothic" about the D2 artwork. How are they any different from the drawings in Cain's journal on the D3 site? If anything, these "feel" more cartoonish to me.
I was just clearing up the origins on the screenshot, I'm not discussing anything else since I already stated all my views many, many times before, and I don't intend to change anyone's opinion. It's not my job to advertise D3. If you don't like it, it's sad, but I can't do anything about it.

Yeah, I thought that screenshot looked familiar to me. I know no ones mind is going to change here; it's almost pointless to post, but it's fun to read the debate.

What's wrong with your gamma settings?

These look a hell of a lot more realistic to me and "feel" a lot more "gothic" or whatever everyone says is missing from D3
