Over the course of three months, I've had this discussion with my friends at least twenty times. Since my friend got his new puppy, we've been having this debate over whether cats, naturally, are a woman's pet. I say they're not because I love cats but they say they are because, in their minds, anyone dude who loves cats must love "the dick."
So I just wanted your take on this.

I've got women friends who love dogs and guy friends who love cats. One of my guy friends trained his cat, on command, to perch on his shoulders (behind his head) in an aggressive posture toward whoever he was talking to. It was pretty funny, if unnerving.

Get friends with intelligence :/
I have two cats which I got with my girlfriend. If I were alone I would like one (I feel 2 is too much work alone :P).
Really there is no dog = man cat = woman this is so silly. You either get a cat or dog because of pros and cons of both. They are very different.
Imo as I have had both in my life and lived both in the country and in a city:
- Cats are more suited for apartments than dogs. I wouldn't get a dog with no garden.
- Cats uses litter whereas you must get your dog out for his needs and walk around with little plastic bags (unless you live in the countryside where you can let your dog shit somewhere in the woods).
- Cats are very independent and will show a lot of indifference, dogs will give more affection but require also more attention back.
- Cats live longer
- Its far easier to raise a dog and teach it good habits. Cats are crazy and unpredictable, you will have a hard time teaching them to stop scratching something or jumping on the table/sofa (and I'm 100% against Onychectomy)
- I feel cats are more dangerous to little children (again with no Onychectomy) but that's probably subjective, my reasons is that cats can respond very badly to annoyances. This depends a lot on the personality of the animal anyway and how it was raised, there are some agressive dogs. But if you raise your average labrador well, you shouldn't have a problem with children.
- And most and forall: get the one you think is the cutest.
A lot of these depends on the side of the dog as their size vary a lot.
I think cat's are great pets for both men and women. I used to watch Zack play with his 2 cats all the time but haven't followed his videos in a while.
I know quite a few guys with cats. Most apartments around here will only allow small pets, most guys that I know don't go for ankle biters (small dogs) so if they want a pet - cat it is.
My ex was a sucker for strays, he would see one somebody through in a bag or box, or hurt in some way and bring them home and of course most were pregnant females. At one point in time we had 31 cats/kittens and 3 huge dogs. By that time I grew to not like them so much. Strays don't do litter boxes, my house smelled oh sooooo good. <_< I chased most away after they were back to health. Gave away quite a few kittens too.
So...yeah, I'm a dog person now. The bigger the better.

Hell no. I love kitties, way more than dogs actually. Don't get me wrong I plan on owning a dog in the future and becoming best buds!!! But to answer the question no, I think guys who own cats are normal. Me and my girlfriend own three little kitties, and we give them all nicknames!!!!!!
When I plan on growing up, I plan on owning about two cats. Yes, this is a number I've already set in my mind.
I'll name them Geddy and Neil. I want one of them to be a Russian Blue and the other to be an American Shorthair.
My mom worked at a veterinary hospital for cats and I think that's where I grew my love for cats. That and the fact that my family has always had cats as pets. Most of the stereotypes that people have about cats are completely false IMHO. Certain cats have certain personalities and you have to live with that. I've always identified myself with cats because, in my mind, they're mixed bags.
Edit: Personally, I don't understand why dogs are called "man's best friend." I mean, if you want a friend that kisses your ass and makes you feel way more important than you actually are then, sure, get a dog.
I'm probably gonna start a shitstorm with that comment.

And of course, there is absolutely no relation between loving cats and dicks... I don't even know how cat=dick came into your mind in the first place !!!
I never said that; my friends did.

Can i ask a related question?
How many cats are "Sane"?
I have 6 at the moment, its a lot of work, but theres a lot of love in return.
(i also have a merima dog to look after the goatsies, so im not dog prejudice)
How many cats before you cross the line into "mad lady" status?
Also why are cats opposite to dogs? My dog loves licking my cats, they love it too.....
Me, personally, I'd draw the line at four, but it's all dependent on the person.
If people wanna judge, they can judge. Fuck 'em. I don't understand why some people own more than six dogs (unless, of course, they need them to perform some sort of duty). I know two friends of mine who live in a house with at least six dogs and it's absolute hell. One of the dogs even cornered another and almost had their jaws around their throat. It was vicious.
But, yeah, I don't think there's that much of a limit when it comes to cats. Like with any other pet, just be prepared to clean after it.

The biggest annoyance I have with my cat is that he walks underfoot when he is hungry, so I have to be careful not to kill him with my foot.
