which are not more than eleven millions of people paying a monthly fee of 13€ and buying every fucking stupid expansion pack they release, i would call that... lucrative.
You would be surprised how many of those players were originally Diablo players, and were only playing that to support Blizzard in making DIII.
Although, many of them are already leaving. WoW had its peak, and even with a new expansion pack, it isn't bringing in any substantial amount of new players.
WoW is now on the decline, and will slowly die off for the next 5-10 years. It is now the decade of Stacraft II and Diablo III. The good Blizzard franchises.
At this point, every game are neutral. It can be either D3, SC2 or WOTLK
Why does everyone forget that a NEW GAME ANNOUNCEMENT will be made.
SC2 and WOTLK are already ANNOUNCED. It can either be D3, Project Hydra (If Project Hydra isn't D3), the next-gen MMO, or one of those remakes of Lost Vikings etc.

Mostly on decline because people start complaining about graphics, imo.

Well, I like Warcraft, and I don't mind WoW, but admittedly Diablo series >>>>
As for declining, most MMOs are lucrative with a couple hundred thousand people playing. WoW has 9 million, and it would be worthy of continuing support until it is no longer profitable.... IT could be a while ^^ At least until woW2
The only plausible explanation for the teaser to be WOTLK or SC2 would be the release date or beta date. But I highly doubt that because its just over uncreative.
This puts Diablo and Ip at a step advantage, but its not 50/50. Blizzard are lore masters. They will not create a new IP through MMORPG since it'll screw up the lore because it never ends. But lost vikings? Its a console game, bringing console to pc is stupid. Not only because Blizzard fans HATE that, but because there will be no proper back story. Unless we played the console, there is no shit way we'll know the stroy of lost vikings. Or even that pax vagina watever.
