Sorceress is one of the easiest classes to play with, magic immune mobs... not so fun I guess(but there are ways around).
Hammerdin, obviously.
Fishymancher, pretty interesting but you yourself is weak as hell, not counting Corpse Explosion.
Those are the most common and "best" but none are really fun from my experience.
You can do just as well with a barb, amazon, druid and probably assassin(never tried).
Most survivable would have to be a stam stacked barb...but a pally is the only one I got to 99 and I don't remember dying too much. The most fun to play imo is the necro and assassin...I like summoning stuff (druid has many pets as well) and as for the assassin....I just like the style with the charges. It pretty much lead me straight to the rogue in WoW.
From my experience, a trap assassin is one of the safest classes to play, and she's pretty fun too, if you like her play style.
She gets a lot of health from vitality, high resistances and damage reduction from Fade, and can also deal with immunities with a combination of Fire Blast and Lightning Sentry/Death Sentry. The damage output of Fire Blast is pretty nice considering it's a level 1 skill. I had it at 3k-4k last time I played that build. The sentries were at 1-7k each (max 5 traps at a time). I had some decent gear at the time, so the damage won't be that high on your first run-through of hell, but you'll still manage.
The Shadow Master is a pretty nice tank as well, and Mind Blast is fantastic for stunning large crowds, and even converting enemies for a short duration, giving you some temporary tanks while you're dealing with particularly dangerous groups of enemies.
Cloak of Shadows can also make monsters blind for a short period, which is nice when fighting ranged attackers with high damage.
I can't really say if she's more fun than other builds, but she's definitely an option. She is pretty good for MFing.
If you are doing SP, I've cleared he'll with both a hammerdin and a wind Druid with no extra level grinding and only the gear that happened to drop for me. The wind Druid was definitely more fun. I would go summon up until about 35-40 though since you don't get any good wind skills early on. Physical with cold immunes are the only monsters you can't kill by yourself.

Thanks for the input guys! I've been reading alot about the hammerdin and it sounds tempting but so far my sorcerer is doing fine I just wanted to see what other class is fun in terms of later levels and tree's.
Not to turn this into a hammerdin bashfest, but I never understood why people played them. Just out of watching a video of the hammerdin playstyle I got bored after 2 minutes. Not only because you use the same single spell the entire game, but because everything just dies indiscriminately. Talk about repetition!
The Sorceress is very versatile and fun, and has the potential for the most builds. My main character was a sorceress, and it never ever got boring for me. To complete Hell you'll need a very powerful Merc, or a friend to help you in some parts, but with good gear you can do it. After that, I tried a Necromancer that used Corpse Explosion + other offensive spells, and it was so much fun. So I'd recommend those two.
My brother's been playing different builds of the Barbarian for years and he's never got bored. Haven't personally played one seriously, but if melee fighting is your style... well, I guess he's popular for a reason
I personally liked the Bonemancer. Plus they don't suffer from immunes, aside from the two "Magic Immune" monsters in the game. Granted, the Hammerdin also suffers from those two as well, so...
Sorceress is probably the easiest in Normal and Nightmare because of how item independent she is, but unless you have enough resistance reduction (such as Infinity) you will have big problems in hell. Same goes for Assassin. On the other hand weapon based characters like the Barbarian will do even worse unless you have a good enough weapon for them. The safest bet is probably the bone Necromancer since you plenty of damage but won't suffer from resists. Wind Druid might work as well, I have never tried it so I don't know for sure.
I'm wanting to try necro & druid but since they aren't involved somewhat on their play style in Diablo 3 I don't know if I want to take that risk.

Magic immune usually doesn't mean that they're immune to your spells. In most cases, it's just a mild reduction of damage. For instance, there are a lot of magic immune monsters in Hell, especially in later acts, but there's only two monsters that spawn that are immune to hammers.
The bonemancer is a great choice not only because his magic is effective against nearly every monster, but also because of the variety of his spells. He's excellent one-on-one, especially if you combine, say, Bone Prison, a few Curses, and Bone Spirit. For PvM, Bone Wall is great for funneling enemies (if not for holding them off for precious few seconds). And, of course, +0skill equipment will likely give to a random summonable pet, so those are wonderful meat shields and distractions (and with Life Tap, they're virtually unkillable).
Paladin?
Sorcerer?
Assassin?
Barbarian?
Amazon?
Necromancer?
Druid?
I'm liking my sorcerer right now but will she be able to get to hell mode & fully complete it?
Monk > Wizard > Barbarian > Demon Hunter > Witch Doctor

Ew... repetition ruins the fun for me. I'll pass.

What game are you playing?
Sorceress or shapeshifter Druid.
Diablo is synonymous with repetition. Every aspect of the game is a grindfest.
but seriously, i see no fun in playing the game solo; do it once for the story maybe, perhaps the challenge, but bnet or lan makes things way better.
"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
Im going to stick with the sorceress because of the amount of different spells / skills available to her.
I know, what I meant by repetition is pressing 1 specific spell / skill over and over as a whole class.
Nice smart ass reply though.

TrapSin is another top character for PvM.~She can deal different kinds of damage, remain in safe distance and easilly kite enemies.
paladins can pretty much solo the game halfnaked. I want to bash paladins some more but this thread has managed not to so I won't.
Also all the really viable builds for being able to do hell solo with bad gear have been names.

I'm loving the Druid at the moment going elemental but my right click died so i'm stuck without being able to play efficiently for a little while.
