I'm certainly worried about not being able to play Diablo 3 when it comes out on beta or especially when it comes out for release, I can't afford alot of parts right now and since that's a problem I don't even know if i'll be able to enjoy Diablo 3 with my system since I can barely run Starcraft II on low without some lagg.

Anyone else feel the same way about having a crappy computer & worried about not being able to play because of that?

posted a message on PvP in Diablo 3
The way I think of it is.

Competitive gaming is a big part of players in any game. Most players will eventually want to try it out and will probably get involved with it depending on if they like to learn from their deaths and keep trying, which is what leads to them wanting to play competitively.

Why do you think FPS games are so huge? Because online it's non-stop killing the other player. People love to PvP it's in our blood.

I don't see how Blizzard isn't understanding this. It will be a huge part of a ARPG game, especially at the end- game.

No need to announce beta loudly because most of the people won't be getting in it'll be a waste of time on Blizzards part.

1000 beta keys being sent out @ last years blizzcon which is 1000 loyal Blizzard followers, that's alot of testers already.

1000 testers is absolutely nothing if you're looking at an infrastructure that more than likely needs to be able to support at least 1-2 million customers. We can safely assume based on Blizzards track record that the game will hit 1 million copies sold - so even if only 10% of the people who own the game are online at any given time (a reasonable number based on mmo statistics) you end up with a constant minimum server load of a 100.000 people. So let's say betatesters are a more zealous bunch and 50% of them are online at any given time - those 1000 keys would come up to about .5% of the minimum expected server load. Even if as a stress test Blizzard wants to reach 10% of this minimum server load assumption they will need at least 20x as many players - and keep in mind that these numbers are very conservative - imo the beta won't be a small scale thing either.

1000 people is more than you'll see in your daily life, think about it.

Gamescom is in two weeks, I really hope they'll announce the Beta start date there!

I'm not going to say it's impossible, but I doubt it. They usually save major announcements for their own event (Blizzcon), for major interviews, or for their own news feed on their site/through Twitter/forums, which instantly is picked up by hundreds of fansites across the web.

It would certainly fit the time bill, though, I'll give you that.

The beta isn't a major thing.

Quite the opposite, it is a major thing. It's their chance to test out their hardware and software infrastructure to make sure when the game goes live that millions of players aren't going to be without a game. As for it being announced at Gamescom, it's certainly possible and fits into the Q3 time frame they established for the beta. For a major announcement like the release date I'd expect that to be at Blizzcon.

No need to announce beta loudly because most of the people won't be getting in it'll be a waste of time on Blizzards part.

So when is beta starting? Why are they holding back a beta version of the game that isn't close to full version if its not full then there couldn't possibly anything wrong with handing out beta right now.

Reading that D3 will have a Money-Based AH literally makes me sick to my stomach. Someone that starts the game 6 months late, but has $100 to blow, will suddenly be more geared than me (who will have started on day one). Or some lazy-fat kid is going to be better geared than me because he mommy will buy him everything. You might say "well you can buy items too" -- no! Fuck that, I refuse to by virtual items. I will also refuse to sell virtual items for real money. I will refuse to play with anyone that spends real money on items. Thanks Blizzard for this absolutely stupid new system. And wow, yeah, lets just let complete noobs buy a character. Fucking brilliant Blizzard (I hate you). You might have just turned me into a SWTOR fan... or maybe Guild Wars 2.

Get over it. I don't see why you care if someone gets better gear than you as soon as he joins compared to your 6 months of farming. It sounds to me like you didn't enjoy your 6 months of farming so you dislike the guy who bought your exact items as soon as he joins.

Your hatred will pass or just don't play a game you won't enjoy playing.

All in All: Don't worry about someone else, worry about you.

I get your attitude, but what you just said is akin to, " get over it son, your brother got a new bike for being a good boy, you just had to get one by actually working for 6 months."

If that's how he feels then he's just going to have to cry for a little bit.

@Diisfunk: Really? I had no idea there was multiplayer. Hmm I thought battlenet was made for me to create a account to play with offline.

I bet your the "fat-lazy kid" and that's why you are defending Blizzard. They implemented the Real Money Action House because they are to lazy to do anything about sites like d2jsp. Why don't they just take those sites down and fix the problem instead of putting a band-aid on it? Sites will still be selling items whether they implement the RMAH or not. But with Blizzard putting in the RMAH they are just giving-in to the minority. They are saying it ok to sell items and characters now... which is flat out stupid. In-game wealth/status/power should only be earned in-game, not with dollar bills. Period.

    Get over it.

At least this way those of us who want to earn items the old-fashioned way can make money off the people who don't. If I can make my 50$ back I'm playing for free!

That's a good way to think about it.

I am categorically disappointed with what I've read here. Specifically, the 6-skill 3 trait limitation coupled with the fact that you get ALL SKILLS and they scale with level or gear. It's more auto-stat distribution ideas. What is this, a cell-phone flash game?

And don't even get me started on the real gold AH. The interview with Jay Wilson made the RGAH sound even WORSE than I could have possibly imagined it. He sounded so incredibly smug about it in his responses. I could tell from the way he answered that he is just a shrewd business man.

I'm not especially convinced this is a game I even want to play any more. I'm not mad, or disappointed.. Just surprised at these continual development choices which seem to be creating a game I don't want to play.

Your looking at it at a bad POV, you can make money from a game you love to play and will play for a while so why not get money out of it if you can?

Ya I kind of figured they would take less of a cut which in the end will give you more outcome in your auction but there will have to be a huge cut in real money auctions so that e-balance will actually be worth taking instead.

It all depends. As far as I've understood you can just store the e-balance and convert it into cash by buying items with it, then setting the system to cash-out and selling those items. Unless the choice between e-balance and cash is permanent (which I doubt it is).

Ahh I see so why not just give an e-balance instead of real world money? It'd be easier for Blizzard to send it to your account than to send it to your paypal or send as a check.

I mean if the e-balance is smooth and I can either use it as real life money and as cash towards the game that would be perfect.
