These forums give out a bad image since apparently nobody's providing the OP with the answers he requested (builds with $2k budget), but rather spew out personal opinions and misinformation.
As long as your definition of better is FPS you won't notice, then sure it will run it better.
I havent given any personal opinions other than maybe the sound card debate. Waste of money imo, but some people like high quality sound. However, it should be one of the last things you consider as a gamer concerned with performance, which is obvious.
The build you posted has so much waste in it its laughable. One could easily make an comparable gaming machine for far far less. Buying top of the line components means you are paying for research and development for next to no gain, if any, in actual performance.
Case + PSU combo for less than your PSU or the Case you listed.
Just pure waste....suggesting stupid shit just because it costs a lot.
That case is laughable at best if you'll be doing Dual GPU's or even a 7970 or a hell a 6950. I had a similar case and a 6950 and i had so many heat issues. A case needs to have the proper airflow for your build. Simple as that. Without the correct airflow you're fucked as shit. I'm nto saying you have to buy the TJ11 which is 700 bucks but It's certainly a good option. The FT02 or Rv02-E are amazing alternatives and so are the Haf X and NZXT Phantom. Those are all well within his price range.Especially since he's looking for a dual GPU setup.
The poster I quoted was making a suggested build with a single GPU.
Dual GPU is a total waste, especially right off the bat. I could maybe see upgrade to dual later, but not starting off that way. You don't have to buy a 200+ dollar case to get good airflow....I don't even know why you think thats such an issue.
Edit: Now that I look at that case more closely it does look a bit restrictive. But could still easily run single GPU system.

2000 dollars is a great budget to get a top notch computer, but that extra 300 dollars on a second GeForce 570 is actually going to hurt your, or put you over the 2000 budget to get the same performance as you would without a second card.
Why?
Because the second video card means a few things. You need a HUGE power source, or TWO (meaning you just burnt an extra couple hundred dollars). It also means you need a larger-than-normal case... which might be okay for you, but it gets annoying when it doesn't fit under you desk (I know from experience). You are sacrificing money that could/should be spent on getting a better mobo, higher speed ram, a solid state drive, etc. (<- any of those will have a better, more regularly used payoff than a second video card. Do some research, what CAN'T you run at high levels with that single video card...? nothing probably)

BF3 at 2560x1440 lmao that's if he wants to spend a grand on a dell u2711. But in all seriousness you're right Unless hes going for a dual triple quintuple or six monitor set up then dual cards will be pretty useless.

The single video card advice is coming as a surprise to me, but with very good points. I will probably seriously look at getting just a single card, rather than 2.
I looked a while ago and decided that I couldn't afford a 590, and through research found that 2x570s was better than a single 580. So that's why I selected 2 570s at that point.
Is there a better nvidia card than the 590 now? I haven't looked into it in a while. Also, I know that the 590 is actually 2 cards in one, is this any different (power consumption and performance-wise) than 2 regular cards?
If I were to go single GPU -- what card would you recommend? I have always been an nVidia fanboy over Radeon (I look at that like Intel vs. AMD).

Well, someone did mention they would recommend getting 2 monitors (which I may consider). If I wanted to go with a dual monitor setup, I would need the second video card, right?
What are the major perks to having a dual monitor setup? What are some drawbacks?

Another thing to consider about cooling is where you put your computer. That matters far more than anything else. I have seen people place their computers inside a closed desk, and then wonder why it was overheating....

About single cards with multiple GPU's (HD6990 and GTX590(?)), I can only give my subjective opinion as I haven't really put much research into them. Sure they're the fastest single cards in existence, but they also come at a high premium price. From my personal experience they're also prone to failures (a friend's 590 had one of the GPU's die just after warranty expired, GG. That means the whole card is worthless and broken). Generally I'd say stay clear from those, the mainstream high end single GPU's are just more reliable and more affordable.
Odd since the 590 has only been on the market for less than one year.

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!
You can use 2-6 monitors for Eyefinity, 2 is kinda useless the only ones that work well are 6,5 and 3. the reason these work over 4 or 2 is because the middle of your screen shouldn't have a bezel down the center. If you use 4 then your screen is split in the middle with the bezels and same with 2 screens. The only one this works with is 6 monitors where you can use them in vertical plus horizontal. 3 monitors on two levels works quite nicely. Otherwise stick to 5 or 3 horizontal displays, just so your main screen is un-obstructed with bezels. Definitely get a second GPU if you want to multi-monitor in eyefinity or Nvidia Surround( required dual gpu). The cost sin't that much. Two 6950's will run you about 500 bucks and then 3 Asus V236H will run you around 450. So if you really have 2k to blow I could see this being useful. You could go with a 590 and then rune three nvidia surround 3d monitors to get 3d although it's not really that great. Then just spend the other 1k on mobo CPU and SSD/HDD and PSU + case. Like anti republicans aid you can get some nice deals on cases and that Corsair is a good case.

a sinlge GPu thats priced nice and gets good performance is a 6950/570/560Ti they're the ones that aren't super expensive but give you more than enough performance for todays latest and greatest games.

So though I planned to go dual 570s in my original plan, you think I should just go single (as it will be enough), instead of going for a higher-grade one?
When are the new Nvidia GPUs hitting the market? I want to get the computer built and fully working prior to release of D3.

I forget when they are coming but i think they might have been delayed, the new Radeon GPU's are out though. The 7970 is 500 bucks though. And yes if you're doing single monitor gaming, or just dual monitors one for games the other for browsing web and stuff then a single 570/6950/560Ti hell probably a 6850 will run it just fine. I know d3 won't give you any problems with any of those cards.

Why would you go for the Xeon, which is meant to be used as a server processor? The mobo is also a workstation model, though I know the Asus WS mobos are good for gaming aswell. Your build also has some weird items like an extra NIC, Office programs and other stuff in no way related to gaming. Just curious here.
This^ Xeon might be good for Encoding, but just for gaming? Not needed I'd rather have a 2700k or 2600k or a 3820 or 3930k. The xeon is just not really useful for gaming.
