So I've been farming pretty excessive since the ROS launch looking for build changing gear... And to say the least I'm pretty disappointed thus far.
I haven't had a single set item drop... (only a couple (bad) set crafting plan)
I have found only a couple orange text legendaries, most are just bad higher stat sticks / souls.
I've spent well over 5.8k blood shards on lady Katrina = 0 legendaries / sets.
My question is; with the AH gone, and trading gone, how in the heck am I supposed to find a set item let alone complete a set before I die? How am I ever gonna be able to try certain builds out?
CONCLUSION: There needs to be a middle ground option to obtain gear so people like me who suffer from the worst RNG have a chance to have fun / one day play the build they desire.
Hang in there, keep playing, and wait for fortune shining on you. It eventually will, but when? Who knows. The game is two weeks old. My experience is similar to yours (actually worse) but I just keep playing because I know with every rift there's a chance that luck is turning around and I get his one item that will make me want to play another 100 hours.
The hotfix they just announced will definitely increase your return of legendaries from rifts, and probably also from Kadala (FYI, I got my first at around ~6500 blood shards and I'm at a total of 4 legs after spending 14.3k). Just keep playing and wait for it.
In 2.0.1 I was veeeeeeeery unlucky, I leveled 127 paragon level and didn't find anything interesting at all. And then... I got a Wand of Woh. I'm just hoping that if I play lots and lots and lots this might happen again. Might be tomorrow, might be in a couple of months, might be never... but when it does, it was worth it :-)
Before you die? Its been two fucking weeks since the xpac.
Also define "excessive"? 2hrs a day 10hrs a day?
RNG is RNG, its not some mystical bug or some rain cloud following you around.
So many of these posts and its only been two weeks. Just enjoy the game and keep at it. Run in a group, if items drop they cant use it really increases your chance to get your hands on stuff.
I'm at the point where I now have two sets of everything as a barb, two of the boulder toss 2h mighty weapon i'd never ever consider using, 2 sets of the bul kathos 1 handers, only thing I don't have 2 of is the immortal king's helm, and thunderfury. In my case, the only thing not dropping that is good for my class is a shard of hate. tough luck bro
I like to think that The issue is that there is to little to look forward to.
its not that the issue is some people get the sets and uniques, and some people dont, its that, that is all there is to get. and people notice. When people say I never get legendary items, it just seems like what they are saying is "I dont have a ring of royal grandeur. or thunderfury. or a one hander with 2400 DPS. or a maxim for my enchantress who is wearing a hellfire ring that I regret working for.
They are literally searching for the same pile of 5 or 10 items that the rest of the world is.
I think thats why this issue seems to really shine. because the pool of desirable items is so streamlined, and we know that the game would kill itself if it just gave those items to everyone, thats a no brainer.
Creating enough items to give everyone in the world their own individual set? obviously thats not really possible....
but that should not prevent new items from being created and released. and it should open the floodgates for new professions new character concepts and new items and most importantly new item interaction ideas.
their should be items that they fling into the game and dont even tell anyone about.
their should be uniques that can synergize with other uniques....I know I know....pure blasphemy
how many sets are their for Barb? IK set. oh. and Wichdoctor? Zunimassas. oh....so what 1 set or 2 per class? for the world? yup
well im gonna go ahead and say it. there should be more. the payoff for such and investment would be incredible I rekon...

They just put out a new expansion with new items. These things take time to develop. Will they add more legendaries to the game in the future? Yep. They've said as much. Will they add new sets with new interesting effects? I would put money on it. Some of them will probably even come without an expansion. Again,it's been two weeks.Give it time and you will see more stuff coming down the line. Who knows, maybe they have already put items into the game they didn't tell you about. Start looking
If you play regularly (~2hrs) a day and don't find a set item in a year, then you have a problem. I play about 2hrs a night and have found a couple set items.
RNG is a bit part of finding gear, but patience is the larger factor. RNG + Patience = Epic Loots
Friend of mine got a Breastplate of Akkhan last night in a t1 rift. I think it was the first rift we did, and just the other day the helm and thorns shoulders dropped for me.
Blizzard didn't design the game for you to get on for 2 hours get the best gear in the game and then get off. They made the game to be played. Or else we would all have amazing gear and get bored by next week. Just play the game and have fun and stop worrying about loot dropping.
Playing the Lottery is also RNG...doesnt mean you gonna win it. Ever.
Its a fucking Game, and without Rewards for 1000 Hours of playing, why go thru the hassle at all?
So noone ever wins the Lottery? Also you have played 1000s of hours of RoS? Enjoy the game for what it is. Item hunt, always has and always will be. Its the thrill of the hunt. What would happen if 2 weeks after the expansion you had every item you wanted, then you would complain there is nothing to do and quit playing.

The biggest thing is that there has never been anything to do in Diablo, and only true fans of the ARPG genre are ever going to be able to play Diablo. I think that a lot of people need to just learn that this isn't the genre for them and move on because it's a waste of their time to try to find fun in what is basically nothing but a glorified slot machine that devours time instead of quarters.
Really. "why go through the hassle at all?" Because it's a fun game.; the moment it stops being fun, you need to put it down and do something else. You guys who play for 10 hours a day, I really hope you're having a good time, because you can't take your loot with you when you stop playing.
Too true. And that goes for anything in life. The moment something stops being fun, move on and try something new.
There is currently nothing wrong with the game. Tons of people are having fun and enjoying it. I just hope Blizzard doesnt buff the drop rates to the point where you have fully decked out characters in a month and then have nothing to do.
Green exist. ROS just came out. If you want to be fully gear in a little over two week this is not the game for you. I play a lot and i have found some good stuff but it does't mean I don't have days where I find 1 legendary and or just junk legendaries. You'll get good items you just have to grind.
These threads really need to go away. it's not like someone at blizzard is picking a player and saying "no legendary drops for you' its just random man.
So please stop with the "do legendaries exist" threads…please
But sets do exist. I'm probably on the luckier end of the scale but out of maybe <50 legendaries, I've gotten 3 vyr's pieces (1 dup), 4pc tal rashas (over the span of <10 legendaries), and some dh hunter set gloves all on my wizard. I've seen blackthornes much less than the people I play with who seem to get it all the time. Maybe 1 or 2 blackthornes pieces and 1 travelers pledge.
This is mostly on T1-3. Many of the set items have actually been from chests. And I never really did the T6 chest farm runs (I did maybe a dozen which actually yielded two of my set pieces)
So extreme luck helped me but I'm sure there is some middle ground between us where people get set items fairly often enough.

I like to think that yes the item hunt drives us.
In D1 Id say I hunted rabbits
In D2 Id say I was given the opportunity to hunt rabbits and deer and the odd tiger.
In D3 I waited patiently thinking id get to hunt on a motherfucking African safari with a fucking spaceship.....but what it felt like was just deer after deer after deer. and the same ten lions that everyone else was hunting.
in short the "item hunt" in D1 was demolished by the item hunt in D2. the item hunt in D3 was supposed to demolish the D2 item hunt....but according to some people fell woefully short.
so while D3 is absolutely peppered with incredible features, it is also peppered with features that hold it back from really blasting to the moon.
D3 was supposed to be the item hunting trip of the fucking century, and it sure does not feel like it. at least certainly not for the first 2 fucking years of the games life which are arguably the most important.
does it feel like it today? well...im afraid to pay money to access the new wildlife preserve....I fear its just 8 million deer with bells around their necks......
but yes I totally agree and hope that the hunt in its ideal form without the junk holding it back...lasts a long long LONG time. that much is certain...
