Pro
1) fun to hunt for the perfect MF gear - the endless search to maximize a stat
2) spending all the effort to maximize mf should show noticable reward (more magic drops! = fun)
Con
1) public groups will constantly be joined by the dreaded "leecher" - that one guy so gimped but sporting 1000% mf - he does none of the work but follows behind and collects 4x the reward
2) premade groups will be forced to have one friend become the gimp listed above so the rest can share the great finds
3) MF stat takes up a useful killing stat on gear
---------------
ONE SOLUTION
remove MF from gear
AND
Change the XP bonuses from perks in game (like the massacre etc) to MF% bonuses for short durations
so a group of players that are killing at a high rate of speed and continue to get massive hit and killing spree bonuses will keep their MF meter maxed while they play
these are short duration buffs that get renewed as you continue to dominate - the better you play and the faster you kill the more you can keep the MF maxed -
I saw this on the official forums and LOVED the idea -
I like having MF on gear. It gives you another dimension to the whole quest for better gear. Players will have to optimize their rate of finding gear with kill speed and MF bonus. Also, it feels good knowing that you can alter your outcome of gear drops to get more, better quality items.
Leachers will always be addressed the same as discussed many times before.
I also don't have a problem with groups assigning one or more people to having all MF gear. You can choose to do it or not and it offers a different group dynamic and flexibility in game play. Make the game harder for 3 people with a better chance of items or slow yourself down too much? Same balancing act as on a single character's MF level
I really think MF is a hallmark D3 stat. I would be really sad if it was removed from the game. It supports making more than one character with certain goals in mind. MF sorc, hammerdin for baals, smiter, etc.
You can't get rid of MF, it was too much fun to build in D2. It is essentially another difficulty slider for blizzard to use and one that actually makes equipment choices very meaningful. I think they could actually expand this idea from magic find/gold find to other types of find. Rune find or maybe even Rare champion monster find. There are so many ways they can go, and so many different types of gear setups to really enhance the depth of the game.
I agree with everyone, MF is essential to Diablo and makes for interesting builds which Blizz has been pushing from the get go. They don't want cookie cutter builds, even though there will be some regardless of how hard they try, but adding in MF pieces to builds and gear is a give/take challenge that we all will have to deal with. Its part of what makes Diablo.
I really don't see an issue with MF. If some people don't like it, no one is making them use nor forcing such people to play with them. If you run into a guy in a public game trying to leech of you, whatever just leave. MF is a core part of the diablo franchise, i'd be sad to see it go haha.
I'd like MF/GF to be in addition to combat stats rather than have them compete. I know that some people like the idea of having to choose between the two, but in the end this doesn't seem to work because you:
A. Never use your gear with "cool" stats because you will never have a perfect set of gear with max stats so you're always trying to get better gear.
B. End up being a leech.
Hopefully Inferno will be too challenging to make excessive MF/GF viable. That would probably be the best solution at this point.
Nothing was wrong with MF in D2 so therefore it will be an adopted feature. One note, though, is that the internal mechanics messed up the system behind the scenes with the introduction of runes. Because runes were white, MF did not boost the chance to find them. And, as most people should know by now, runes were the most powerful items.
As long as they don't introduce a kind of item that you want to see drop that MF doesn't help you get, it's fine.

Didn't I create a thread just like this
"Change the XP bonuses from perks in game (like the massacre etc) to MF% bonuses for short durations"
All this does is encourage people not to play the game, they would just log out come back ina few days and go hunting and rinse and repeat
I personally love MF and Diablo wouldn't be the same without it. and I wouldn't get ride of the exp bonus for massive killing spree I mean it makes sense you become a better fighter the more enemies your fight and the faster you kill them the better you get at it but, it doesn't make you any luckier (MF+) I mean its a cool idea but I don't like it for logic purposes. If you are just trying to make it easier to find magic items just stack magic find.
I'm going to have to be the one dissenter here, I played D2 a fair amount and magic find was always one of my biggest annoyances--I would spend hours and hours doing runs in my MF gear to get all this badass gear, but I never got to use the badass gear: because I felt like I would be wasting my time if I wasn't MFing. I totally get the idea that Diablo is a game about gear wealth and so MF is, in a way, the core affix; However, I NEVER had much fun MFing in D2. I had fun dominating hell baal with some insanely overpowered beast of a build in like 5 seconds, or planning the next insanely overpowered build. Unfortunately, I'm one of those gamers that does the most efficient thing (and all of us on this forum probably are) so I spent 90% of my D2 time MFing.
Having to spend so much time doing the boring stuff seems like it flies in the face of the new Blizz philosophy: don't punish gamers for wanting to enjoy the game. SO-- I don't know if MF will end up the same as it was in D2, BUT I definitely hope they do something to kill that monotony (I don't think inferno is enough, they are kidding themselves if they think we won't find the most efficient part of inferno to run)
On an unrelated note, (sorry) this beta contest is a great way to get people into the community. I have been stalking this site, essentially daily, for at least 5 years-- and just today, I am making my first post (this one).

Do you think this is a waste of an affix slot?
