Has anything been said about what will be done to get rid of Forum Gold and all the d2jsp.org stuff. Nothing would ruin d3 faster for me than spending time building a character only to be on up'd by some kid who spent his lunch money on the Enigma of diablo 3.
I think that people are going to find ways to trade if Blizzard doesnt give us a good trading system. Most people wont be stupid enough to start using some kind of forum gold system for a completely new game. After a while we will see how the games economy and trading system works and if it is good then we have nothing to worry about but if its a fail then we have to start knocking on Blizzards door.
This concerns be greatly. I think there needs to be strong level requirments in the trading system to prevent much higher level from trading with the lower levels.. Perhaps this will help solve this problem.
It may be possible that Blizzard and battle.net is going to get much more rough on the consequences for people using third party software for items ect...how ever i am aware of the difficulties/lack of sufficient attempt on their part to guard against thease things.
heres the link for that:
aactually im having trouble finding the thread on that which i origionally found in the blue tracker.
If I find that I will post it here.
Blizzard will have to invent so brilliant trading system to D3 that no one wants to go post their offers to forums. Also in game currency will be big part of the success. Ofc forum gold will stay in place just like there still are the chinese gold sellers in WoW, but lets hope that at least all the normal trading will stay in battle.net.
Sorry to revive an old thread, but I saw this in google search and wanted to make a point.
Here's the thing about d2jsp - everyone says it ruins the economy by giving incentive to make dupes and such, but the incentive is already there.
Every single point has money behind it. You gain points by trading for them, but new points cannot be generated unless someone pays for it. In other words, in the beginning some points were generated and distributed. So say 10,000 points were generated. The entire economy had 10,000 points until someone purchased more, then there were say 10,500 points.
This philosophy of points does a few GOOD things.
1.) It allows for a much easier way to reach more people to trade. This removes the painful process of spamming boards and actually takes some pressure off of the Battle.net servers, making gameplay smoother.
2.) It drives the economy closer to a perfectly competitive market (where people charge according to how much effort was put into getting the item) because there are now a wide variety of sellers and a wide variety of buyers.
3.) It makes it less likely for someone to get ripped off because of this variety of buyers and sellers.
4.) It allows players the ability to switch between games and not have to worry about wasting all of the wealth they'd accumulated. (If I played diablo for 2 years, I could convert my items to points and not worry about all of my effort going to waste).
5.) Its forum rules forbid people from citing dupes as legitimate. I don't know if many of you have browsed jsp, but if you look at it, most people will pay extra for legitimate items because of the precautions Blizzard and Battle.net have taken against dupes. It doesn't work as well for runes, but for items like armors, rings, charms, etc, most people would rather have a legitimate item than an illegit one.
Now I'm not defending the fairness of JSP - by putting a monetary value on pixels it does give some people advantage over others. HOWEVER, the idea of paying money for game items has been around since the first online game. Heck, it's probably been around since the first guy who said "Hey, pay me a dollar and I'll get the high score on that machine for you." And of course, with the wish to pay money for pixels comes the incentive to somehow cheat the system. Whether through duping or botting, getting items illegitimately will be there with or without JSP
Now I'm not saying JSP is the ideal way to do this. But I think that JSP actually protects the buyer of the items, making it less likely for someone to get scammed and quit the game because of it.
What I think Diablo 3 should do is have a forum-based trading system, rather than trading lobbies. Make it so that you have to have a CD-Key tied to your account, like on the battle.net forums, and people will be much more liable for what they do. Make it so it's more difficult and have a higher penalty for duping and botting, and people will do it less. It also might be helpful to incorporate diablo 2 into the forums, to make the transition between games easier. I think a forum with lists of items and prices, and multiple buyers/sellers would very much benefit the economy and make it much more fair for both buyers and sellers.
I would also suggest requiring people to input and register their CD key to their name when they make an account - not for extra security, but to add extra liability.

Thats why d3 needs a better trading/market system.
I was a big user of jsp when I seen it getting big....it had to happen eventually seeing as the d2 economy was totally messed up.....and even tho it helped me find many many things I simply would never find in trade games I do not want it to be as prevalent in D3. I expect the devs to develop some sort of trade system where theres an obvious currency like gold in wow with tons of gold sinks in the game to keep it from being big again....
Damm it was so annoying to on jsp.....a bunch of guys willing to buy FG from the site basically controlling prices in the economy and trades being done with fg where the person with the most posts and longest time on the site didnt have to send fg/give items first making it easy for those ppl to scam ppl new to the site and unless there was a ton of proof then u lost w/e u gave the person and they got in no trouble.....and being scammed by a mod was the worst...hell i got that done to me and had shots of it and then ended up being the one with gold locked and tagged as a scammer LOL

Personally I don't play online because of how so many people play. I won't belabor all which makes it not enjoyable but briefly getting rushed through levels, groups not staying together, people hoarding items, the system of drop trading. Stuff like that and more just stripped the fun out of online play for me. I play alone as a result.

I'm on your boat.
About JSP it would not be a problem in D3 simply because his based at D2 huge interface flaws. As D3 will not have those flaws, then forum gold will loose the value until it will not exist anymore.
About buying items from others with real money: it just can't be stoped. They can't just shutdown all sites that do this or find all people that do this kind of stuff. This is done in every single online rpg out there and theres absolutly nothing anyone can do about it.

I know it angers you, but there's nothing really wrong with it and I'm sure Blizzard won't stop this; even if they could.
You see, it all boils down to this: You can't stop a kid buying items from another kid in real life, so why would you stop it from happening online? Same thing with piracy, you can't stop a kid lending a game to another kid.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.

You are very correct.....also lets not forget that njag and im guessing quite a few other ppl have invested much into there website and it makes a fair bit of profit for them, im pretty sure they will do all they can to keep it going on into D3.....also pretty sure that ppl who spent a ton of money and time trading to get a ton of FG dont want it to go to waste

They could program the town merchants to become increasingly agitated with each drop trade and depending on the towns demeanor that day they might grab pitch forks and torches after so many drops. They could block the towns exits and chase them through town. If they got caught, the merchant's could shake them down for their loot. The real players who can't attack in town would be so screwed. That would be really funny to watch.
maybe all items should have its own unique sub-code, so 3rd party programs could not create these items, because they could be checked for being counterfeit.

It's difficult to stop drug dealers distributing marijuana in the back alleys at midnight, so why not just accept it and let them set up shop on the net (possibly even advertise their products on google?).
Basically, the tighter Blizz pulls the rope on this, the harder it would be to make transactions and thus there will be way less activity on the subject.
The little kid couldn't be stopped from using their lunch money to buy it from a fellow little mate, but this little kid won't have the variety or stock that the entire net can provide. Transactions would be limited as a result.
I still think Blizz hasn't tried putting a stop to this because, realistically, they are a company and making the most for the business is their ultimate goal. They're willing to sacrifice the enjoyment of a few people, to have many more continue to play the game.

'Cause the possession of marijuana is deemed illegal by the government, who obviously has more power than Blizzard.
But, like you said, Blizzard is a business and needs to make money.

Yes, a business that needs to make money.
I think Blizzard must somehow be profiting from the current bots in D2. Why else would they just let them constantly spam us? There are lvl1 bots in Hell games. How can they not find them and just block their CD Keys? I constantly see the same account names sending the spams. It seems like it should be easy...

You've no idea what you are talking about, do you.
3rd party = company with bots farming the game 24/7 and then selling those items for money.
Exactly...
