Because it was DEMO. What don't you get about that, this is all set up to demonstrate a few of the games features. This is hardly reflective of the finished product.
I can't believe that this is not more obvious to some people. So many of you are taking things for face value, which is fine, as long as you remember that what we were shown was an early working demo. There have probably been numerous additions and changes to the game already. How do I know this you ask? I work in the video game industry.

then why do they keep saying the game is very far along, and all they are adding now is content? sounds almost done to me. Polish for 8 - 10 months... Done
Siegebreaker just bust the fuck in and let you know he was there. That's not something that could have been prevented.
The Fatman's McServants took their time summoning the bastard and the barbarian stood idly by, waiting for him to show up. Why not just break out a cigarette and throw on an MP3 player while he waited, perhaps a small table of coffee and donuts to help pass the time? He looked as though he could have taken a nap in a la-z-boy with a half-read novel on his chest...
The main character... the EPIC HERO... did not look very heroic, waiting for the monster to form at the expense of three lives. What part of this are you not grasping? Make the hero look as though he didn't have a choice or something, if you have to. Don't make him look like an idiot!
And I think for the record, that even if one or most of the summoners/virgins were killed, the boss might still be summoned, albeit with less health or abilities.
A cool thought - if you actually sprung into action (like a real hero) you would be rewarded with an easier boss or better drops, perhaps?

It's time to welcome the other 80% of the color wheel to a Diablo game.

Heaven forbid we discuss something based on the only media release we have for the game, which just so happens to be a movie (something you CAN only take at face value)!
Cheers,
SmashBoy (moonlighting as CommonSenseBoy on Mondays)
to show the monster, people dont realize that they wanted to show cool things and get people to get hyped up about the game, its like what they did to the chest, they put full suite of armor in the chest, but they wont have any like that in the game

I said in that exact post that it was fine to take things for face value, and my post was in response to the one above it.
Why in the hell did they just stand there and watch those virgins die? Why didn't he cleave some skulls open before the hideous thing came into being?
WHY?!?
Cheers,
SmashBoy (like HellBoy, 'cept not)
I agree with most of SmashBoy's reasoning and responses. That virgin shit was hella' funny though, the guy who said virgins didn't exist in Sanctuary. lmao.
Okay, what I wanna say is that... before the bridge was broken in half in front of the barbarian during the game-play trailer (where he had to leap over in the scripted scene)
he stopped moving. (some may argue that he didnt wanna get hit by a falling rock, but read on)
It looks as if your character loses control in every scripted scene. As SmashBoy mentioned, the barbarian froze in front of the summoning ritual scene as if the player lost control.
I agree that it would be nice if the character reacted to the scripted scene. As long as the character reacts "Wait, I sense danger!" and falls back abruptly before the boulders came down, then that would be reasonable.
If you lost your control and the barbarian ran behind a pillar and then hid and peeked at the summoning, THAT WOULD HAVE MADE THE SCENE A LOT MORE REASONABLE.
The siege bringer boss was perfect though.
Stop saying "it was just a 20 minute demo" or "dont critique before you play it" or "give it a year"
Yes that was a demo, and the demo is like a rough draft that a student hands in. We as the consumers (teachers in this analogy) are SUPPOSED to edit and suggest change before the final release (final copy in this analogy)
SmashBoy gave an excellent reply about making changes before its too late, just like the art-direction petition... Before mephisto comes in your face and says "YOU'RE TOO LATE AHHAHAHHA"
Maybe it's just me, but those look more like demons than virgins.
Yeah, those don't look like virgins! But, in the video, they are definitely girls. I don't know why everyone assumes they're virgins? Maybe the Thousand Pounder likes his women experienced.
wrong place and scenario... you can clearly see 4 or 3 virgins iirc floating aboce the ground inbetween cultists, then they explode and the 1k pounder is formed.
I agree that we should be able critique, (1) but you are judging it as if it's the finished product.
(2) You are saying "That is so stupid! Why did blizzard put that in the game? You better fix it before it's too late!" (3) Do you think blizzard has suddenly forgot how to make games?
The fact that this is way over a year from release is not irrelevant - huge, HUGE changes will be made. I'll be surprised if nearly everything in that video doesn't undergo some changes.
(4) You're panicking... (5) I think we're far too early to be saying it's too late to change anything.
1. Wrong. Completely 100% inexplicably wrong.
2. Please link to where I said that. I said "why would the barbarian do this?", nothing about Blizzard directly.
3. Ad hominem, irrelevant.
4. Once again, just plain wrong.
5. But say, wait until the release date, THEN complain. lol! Yeah, let's try to enact change in the game once it is already too late. Makes a lot of sense.
For the record, I never once came out and said anything needs to be changed. I voiced an opinion about an aspect of many video games I dislike (i.e. scripted events you have no means to participate in), nothing more, nothing less.
Cheers,
SmashBoy (soup tastes better when boiled in organs)
I must agree too many scripted events makes the game feel very linear, but this is pre alpha, and they were hopefully just showing us the thousand pounder

Precisely.
The barb didn't really know, but the player sure did. The player probably designed the event.

virgins dont exist in sanctuary? LOL were did you read that? poeple in sanctuary are born already having had sex? doesnt make sense
This petition is to KEEP the current art direction
Good Job Blizzard. Stay on Track

What the player knows is irrelevant, and your suggestion only ignores the point being made by this thread, it does not address it.

Besides, I WANT to see the bloody explosion and the Gluttony demon appear, so I don't have a problem with the way it was handled.
I was answering your question.
