I don't think I'd mind an editor included with Diablo III. I'm not sure a lot of players would actually use it properly (if at all), but it would be a nice inclusion for those who want to put their own twist on Sanctuary.
Neverwinter Nights is a great example of a game that includes an editor or toolset. The game itself is great, but what really made it popular is, you guessed it, the user mods. There are entire communities dedicated to creating and editing Neverwinter Nights maps, and a good majority of them have been successful and fun play.
There are dedicated fans that already make excellent mods and area expansions for Diablo II, with many more wanting to learn how, so why not support those users as well?

Yeah, that's basically what I was going to post to the letter. If you're not going to use it, don't worry about it. If other people want to use it, don't hinder them, since it doesn't affect you. Basically, if this was included, just ignore it if you don't like/want it.
Anybody who says no is just lazy and boring. I say if its possible to do it with an intuitive interface it should be done. But make it so that there is half or no Xp gained and -100%mf so people couldn't power level and get uber items by creating a bunch of monsters in a pit and lobbing fire bombs at them.
I don't think it's worth their time or effort to be honest. I'd rather have them focus on making a game so great that I wouldn't even feel the need to use someone else's creations.

Exactly, though scripting in NWN was confusing at first. But I did enjoy making custom campaigns. You can download a custom campaign for NWN based of Diablo 1.
I would love to be able to make my own little campaigns and world so to speak, after while the game will get boring (but hopefully not quickly) so people will want to do more with the game, either the company provides us with the venue to d oit ourselves view world editors, or we make our own mods.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
As Dragnskull rightfully said, this ain't no RTS buddy.
IF the world editor was implanted, I suspect that their would be alot of custom modding done to it like in WC3's editor, then we would have what? The Diablo version of DotA: TSW, The Sin Wars?

I'd say to just restrict such mods to Single Player or TCP/IP games. Those with characters on Battle.net wouldn't have to worry about it, and anyone using Open Battle.net would do so at their own risk (similar to how things are handled right now).

Didn't i state that earlier? You're thinking too narrow-minded on the possibilities of what it could bring. Sure, idiots can hop on the thing and randomly smack the keyboard with their faces until something magically compiles together and they ship it out to the masses. But there are other rpg/action games that use an editor, and people make use of it extremely well (like i said, NW). Also, there were plenty of hack n' slash-ish maps developed using WC3.
Legend of Magnador and Heart of Winter are two that I can think of, both of which are extremely well rounded and constructed with awesome storylines and customized models.
An editor has nothing to do with the game being great.
Not directly, no. But the addition of an editor would do 3 things:
1)Take away from resources actually helping to develop the core game
2)Complicate the game, which the discussion panel has already said is something they don't want to do
3)Divide the playerbase between "purists" and the like playing on closed bnet and people who play user created content on open bnet.
In the case of Diablo 3, I think the division of the playerbase will only serve to shorten the game's lifespan by a dramatic amount because closed bnet will never adopt the user created content (if this part of bnet remains the same, and closed bnet is what has kept D2 alive).
I don't know about that. Lots of people play that Eastern Sun mod thing.
A lot of games are actually build in editors, thoug usually the company has a much better version than you do.
I do not think an world editor will dampen the game, i think it could add a lot, I love adventures, making them playing them, editors allow you to do that. Some poeple complain some games have a weak story, editors allow you to make what you feel is a better one. Or if you felt there was too much story and not enough fighting they allow you to rectify that too.
Sure you get purists and modders, but is that really so bad? I don't think so.
After all you can just choose not to use or play the edited content.

WAAAH WAAHHH I WANT IT TO BE EXACTLY LIKE D2 NO CHANGES OR ANYTHING WAAAAHHH
Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
anyways, i dont see the point in a world editor in an RPG-Hack&Slash-action-adventure-open-world-slightly-mmo-game.
