I remember not seeing a single child beyond that one that died in Diablo 1 when lazurus was experimenting, in-game.
So far non moving.
NPC children or what not, I see no real reason to not include them. It would make towns and random encounters feel alive, to see children playing in a courtyard in a big city that we may visit or a mother nursing a child infront of her house or being attacked in the wilderness. Wouldn't that be cool.
It'd kind of give those quests we'll do an abstract purpose.
And another thing, I havent seen women and children being slaughtered in a game that I can remember since Fallout 2.
It's as if slaughtering women and children is too much for people, but a demon wearing a human like a condom isn't.
Gore is chalked full of win, what the hell.
Edit: I forgot about Wirt, he was amusing.
It's strange to me that in a medieval setting you don't see a whole lot of children, I mean back in the day with the plague ravaging people, folks used to have 10 children and end up with only 4, and yet you saw as many Prime Evils as you saw children.
It must have been a graphical limitation, no time, and what not.
Even in the Rogue Encampment you saw no refugee children beyond a single trader, in the lower left of the encampment there is absolutely nothing, I mean what was gonna be there, why was it empty, was that going to have people or additional content or was it forgotten?
Of course I don't like children, not even Oblivion had children and it's been lauded as one of the best RPGs to date, what a croc of shit, that game was a massacre of polish, I mean you know a game really truely sucks when all its mods are better than the actual game itself, not even just a few mods, almost all of them.
Children are just a part that never make it in. That was quite an issue that the Community for Elder Scrolls pointed out.
Granted nobody seems to care about it in this game, but it's still something worth putting in.
It would make the world feel more real thats for sure. The reason I think Diablo I and II didn't have any childeren because the places we visited were all somewhat under siege. The childeren and alot of the woman were probably somewhere more safe, or at least its a reasonable way to look at it.
Wirt in D1 (who is dead in d2). Prince Albrecht, the child Lazarus was sacrificing, Atma's son is dead.
Any noticing something here? every child in the Diablo series has a rather short lifetime? I mean basically any child you met or have heard about is either dead or dies while still a child.
However I wouldn't mind seeing more children around the place.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
There is too much taboo about dead children in puritanial america... and in Europe too... much more than in oriental cultural (as Japan).
But having children in a dark world as Diablo may be an excellent idea for two reasons :
1) Children are cute and seeing them in cities can dramatically encourage the heroes to fight against evil and protect them.
2) Dead children are an horrible thing and can dramatically encourage the heroes to revenge these murders on fighting evil.
It'll make Diablo a more "realistic" world, and paradoxally, more mature too.
I support adding children... They had children in Witcher and nobody protested. For the record, Witcher may not be as dark as Diablo but you still have crazy green dogs running around.
what an interesting topic.. guess i never really thought about it, but it would make it ironically a more mature game as someone above me pointed out. i dunno, with all the evil gone for 20 years and things are becoming a little more peaceful maybe we will see children in the game... i support that addition.
I want some monster type to wear a child skin come out of the alley and than BAM he turn into mosnter and hit you for 50% of your hp, that will keep me on edge

Nah, Blizzard would hardly accept an AO rating, so if adding children to the mix inferes in an AO game, then I think this will be out.
However I tend to think we will actually see more children this time around. Just think, in the past games, people knew terrible things were happening and so they were probably struggling to survive in the shown towns, so hardly any children were born. Now, 20 years on, nobody except our fella Deckard Cain, thinks there's anything bad around, so its simple to believe the population has been growing a lot more. All this said, I don't think I do even need to explain that we so far had a glimpse of the world of Sanctuary, and we have not been to a single major city (except Lut Golein) where we could see its usual routine.
On the idea of killable kids, well I don't personally see how it would be put on the game so that it doesn't get it rating higher up. I mean, it's pretty certain the player won't be able to kill normal (alive) children, but I don't know how the scene of monsters killing children are seen in the eyes of the rating boards. On another point, I'm almost sure killing monstruous children is pretty much ok, as long as you can really tell them apart... well I mean, it could get to M but definately not to AO.
Just a note for everyone worrying it's going to be rated under M (if there is anyone left)
The site requires you to input your birth date if you wish to watch the class specific gameplay videos, and I believe you have to be 18+ (or whatever M is, 17?)
Anyway monsters killing kids sure I'd go for that, dead kids lying around? Sure as long as it's not a unrealistic amount.
Kid monsters, ehhh, not really a fan of it, they've never scared me.
Wouldn't it be cool though if there was a quest monster that fed off of the souls of children, a lot of the towns children have been disappearing. So you track it to it's lair and there are dead kids everywhere?

I think that'd be pretty spooky and horrific.
That would be awesome,
In fact, they can do a play on the demons Legions. A big piles of bodies (zombie balls as oppose to zombie wall) as a boss. Except its full of dead kid's bodies. Spookies.
Better yet, make the level where it hide something like the Chamber of Bone!!!

You, sir, has been refined and distilled over time into a small glittering gem of hatred. Thus, I am honored to say welcome home: www.nma-fallout.com
