I beat Hell last night and instantly went into Inferno. Things hits hard... my Garg dies every group of enemies... it's not good. I tried a super defensive spec but it didn't help at all. Bad medicine doesn't help the garg stay alive and I can't kite with Grasp because of vortex mobs.
I came up with a crazy burst damage build.... and to say the least... I now have a lot of Inferno gear on my character and it's getting even easier.
The plan is to have the Garg + fetishes to buy you a second or two while you spam the heck out of zombie bears. Mass Confusion to add the damage and help you pets not die instantly. BBV to help even more with spike damage. Spirit Walk to continue the damage and/or get out of bad spots that vortex puts you in. It works very well... I get up to max stack neph valor and the loot starts dropping like candy. Feel free to try it out once you get there.
I didn't mean to imply solo was harder (or easier) I was just stating the fact because it matters for a build.
Killed the skeleton king with the above build (dang he drops nice loot with neph valor x 5)... with a small change I made this morning... soul harvest instead of BBV... I think it works better. I guess I changed a passive as well for more spike damage.

Brick wall with Act 2. Most monsters 1 shot me... pretty lame imo. I have decent gear too (legendary crossbow with well rolled stats and 2 nice set items). I'm getting burnt out with Inferno... it's just not... fun? I had a lot of fun in Hell... when monsters didn't 1-2 shot me.
Kind of like what I was worried about when I saw the Inferno stats, a lot of tactics go out the window when you get 1-2 shot and it's all about not getting hit... which isn't very fun to me. I'm not playing as much lately....
honestly the WD has been an insane let down for me. i love the idea of a summoner class and its my favorite, yet the pets are SOOO weak that even with catering you build entirely around your dogs/garg they still die INSTANTLY in hell and inferno where they are ACTUALLY needed. the WD hell/inferno (esp inferno) is basically just the wizard with crappier spells or the DH just with shittier mobility, soul walk is amazing and a life saver but having 1 mobility spell sucks balls in inferno.

no dude same thing happened to me right before SK in inferno. everything 2-3 shots me even with 15k dps and 25k life i feel like im literally naked. and with the WD fail mobility im going to roll DH/monk which seem to be the classes that have the easiest time in inferno since the DH has l33t mobility and the monk has crazy heals/tanking ability.

You know... I agree. My Garg dies in 2-3 hits in Inferno right now. It doesn't help that I don't understand how Pets scale so I don't even know what I could possibly do to my gear to make it better. I'm pretty close to taking the Garg out of my build but in Act I at least I can usually kill most things shortly after he dies in 2-3 hits (if it's a solo game).
He gets 1 shot in Act 2.... and like I said above my gear isn't even that bad, it's all Inferno gear except my rings (which honestly do kind of suck still).

i took garg out for GoTD and it helped more since garg is made of paper <_<. but some champ groups are literally impossible for me to beat and its only act 1 lol. and im far too lazy to try 30 different builds to try n power through it when im so depressed with how the WD turned out.
id say blizzard will realize how horrible this is and EVENTUALLY fix it. they either need to seriously buff the life/armor of z-dogs or make it so u summon literally like 10+ and make the circle of life passive like a 50% chance. so u can easier rebuild your army when they get 1 shotted.

Why do ppl cry after 1week into a game that the hardest difficulty is too hard and the game is supposed to be played for years?
If you are finding Inferno too hard, play in hell, get better items/strats and go back try again.
Common sense goes out the windows for quiet a few of you.
It's a vision quest / dire bat build. Here are my stats: http://i.imgur.com/VValS.jpg
As you can see, my stats aren't amazing.
Act 1 Inferno is pretty easy to solo if done properly: kite kite kite! When pushing through content I just SW in, SH then Dire Bat and the mob usually dies in 1-2 bats. If they don't, I pop MC which charms and stuns most of the group then go back to dire bats. I try to save BBV and fetish army for a challenging mob, but I will use it on a regular mob if it starts to out last my mana. The only downside to this build is that you have to use your CDs if you want mana.
If I wasn't confident at kiting these mobs I would take GotD instead of SH for the slow. Most of the mobs in this act walk at a decent enough speed though
(This is in reply to people saying it's hard to farm. It's not.)
@OP
Have you thought about taking Garg out of your build? It dies pretty quickly, no?
To be honest I never thought i'd find myself using Hex, but it has saved my life quite a few times now. Plus, seeing a champion turned into a chicken in the middle of a swing is priceless XD, the rune can be changed to something else (perhaps painful transformation), the heal itself is not that great but they add up I guess.
Anyways, i've been farming act 1 pretty well with this (SK runs really, seeing how I only recently managed to kill the butcher). It's all about kiting around, using the fetishes as temporary tanks, kite with grasp and using Mass Confusion as an ohshit button. I get my 5 stacks of neph valor, kill SK and repeat.
I'm thinking about going into act 2 using this build, but I've heard that zombie bears damage is amazing. Has anyone tried them? I don't mean to derail this, but if someone could PM me i'd be grateful.
i was running a build very similar to this in hell, and still am in inferno... however, instead of mass confusion i use soul harvest and fireball in place of big bad voodoo (for when im finding myself oom or kiting and my bears wont reach)... it's worked exceptionally well, i assumed everyone was rocking builds like this....
im in inferno for couple of days now, act 2 is like impossible to beat because so far i had no luck to find or to have all gear with inferno quality so the farming starts..
ive used similiar build but i found zombie bears to be extremely dangerous because of the middle range..
now im running
leftclick -> poison dart the one which shoot 3 darts. ->>> single target dmg
righ click -> fire locus swarm for aoe / dot dmg.
spirit walk to save your ass / boost your mana when your low
soul harvest -> to boost your dps 100% + to heal your self up
graves hands -> with slowing rune to slow them down for better kiting.
fetish army with cd reduction rune-> for deffense if your facing tuff groups, fetish army will take agro from you for like 10 seconds.
pasive -> the one for mana regen while 4 spells on CD
-> 20% dmg reduction
-> and the most important, spirit vessel, -> save your ass once 90seconds.
ive tried many kinds of builds, but atm this one is working for me really fine, you will find out until your geared, that most of the fights ends up just with the boring kiting... for this locus swarm + dart is perfect
fetish army will buy you like 10 seconds of tanking.
ive used this build in the morning and was able to get trough act1 without problems.
drops were still shitty... so hopefully soon ill be able to enter act 2 with decent gear.
I'm not having any troubles with Act 1 btw. I can easily (almost mind numbingly clear all of Act 1). The problem is that the jump in damage in Act 2 is way too high. It makes our summons completely worthless (they're somewhat worthwhile in Act 1) and the only way to play is to endlessly kite or just skip the champs/elites. You can call it whining if you like, but it's a type of gameplay that turns me off and just isn't fun to play.
I've only played a few hours the past few days... it's pretty boring to do SK runs....
Updated build: I went back to a vision quest build. Ironically... it's very similar to the build I came up with pre-release but swapped out zombie dogs with spirit walk. It works better than my original Inferno build.

no i completely agree. for now inferno is just annoying with the insta deaths on the lowest mobs and seemingly impossible to beat champ groups regardless of gear. seems liek u need super high inferno gear just to STILL have a head banging time but i guess this is supposed to be stupidly hard as they said.
