I understand odds, and %'s but people say act1 is terrible for farming, ive been doing it off and on, not like HOURS on end for a few weeks now. And yes i have gotten a TON of CRAP, however I have gotten a few very nice items I wanted to show here. This is NOT a OMG IM LEET LOOK POST, this is so people who may think act1 isn't viable for farming know that is simply not true.
Here are the top 3 items I have found in the past 3 days, there have been many rings/ammys that I have sold on the AH for anywhere from 500k - 900k.
This was today's find so far, and yes I am currently using this and I may not sell it at least not right away.
Yesterdays finds;
So it IS possible to get decent items from Act1, you just have to keep at it. Hope this post can encourage anyone who might struggle to farm Act2 to know they can go back to Act1 and farm just fine.
Ive prolly ID'd that many or more, so yes i understand what you mean, however with statistics and odds, if you keep going you WILL find something good.
Found quite a lot of good stuff from act 1, made plenty off of them too both on the RMAH and GAH, best to ignore those that say it's worthless farming, bad experiences lead to bitterness that everyone has to hear about.
I totally agree. I've been farming act 1 as well and I've gotten gear that sells for well over a million. I find it lucrative enough to farm, however, the best place to farm is still act 3 because of the sheer number of elites/champs and general monsters.
However, since that isn't a possibility for everyone, it is very possible to farm act 1 and get awesome stuff as well.
just saying that i found an amulet and 2 rings both lvl54 that i sold for 5-7 millions each and the amulet worth 9 millions, all from act1, thank to that i pass to act2 easily and in act2, i still havent got anithing good (like 2 weeks)
Luck of the draw my friend, luck of the draw.
The biggest problem I've found with people and gear is that some people don't know the value of things (I'm not saying you at all, just adding this to my post). A hundred times at least I've found someone saying 'this is a piece of shit' and when they show me, it's actually awesome and those that actually listened to me and tried to sell it on the AH got quite a bit. The problem is that you constantly compare things you find to your own gear.
Your view get's even narrower if you haven't played any/all other classes. So you could potentially be throwing something away that is worth millions. Every single day awesome items are merched because of a general misunderstanding of it's value.
That miracle item you wanted? Yup, someone just sold it to the merchant for 500-3500g.
Wait! I found proof you can farm act 1 and get good loot! Look:
Inferno – Act I
iLvl 61: 17.7% to 23.9%
iLvl 62: 7.9% to 12.6%
iLvl 63: 2.0% to 4.8%
Chance is chance.
Problem is that the amount of chance an item as to drop has nothing to do with good stats rolls, those do not change per act. So while other acts do drop more, its easier for a lot of folks to farm act1/2 than 3 since 4 is just terrible for farming in general.
I find act 2 just as easy as act 1... and I swear act 2 has more elites.
I start at "The Black Soulstone". It puts you in the big area. I then go in both blood dungeons. Even though the quest isn't there, the elites are. I find the one addition dungeon .. then I head to where you find zoltun's body. clear out all three dungeons in there.. kill zoltun.. then kill belial. I kill roughly 20-30 elite packs per run.
easy rares.
If you start at "Blood and Sand" then you have to work your way there which I found isn't worth my time.
I've been doing Act 1 runs for a while now. I run it with around 160 MF, and think I could easily go for more.
Going Festering Woods -> Leorics Manor (and Watchtower) -> Cemetary of the Forsaken -> Warden/Butcher. Made several millions in a few days this way
What routes do you guys take in Act 1? Do you start at the imprisioned angel chapter and just work through there or do you have different points of interest to gain stacks before doing a butcher run?
my top3? a Rev Bow I sold unid for 500k (ended up being shit stats, +str +WD Ability +LOH), a set of unid Archon Legs I sold for 200k (OK stats, iirc) and a set of Archon Gloves with +253 int, +8% crit, and some other stats. All from Act1

Lvl 63 240 Strength 72 all resist 20% MF belt sold for 18 million. it dropped off of the Warden. Nataly's ring with 11% Mf sold for 18 mil. dropped off of random trash mob. Shield with 150 Str. 100 vit 7% crit and 40+ resist all sold for 16mil. dropped off of butcher. All of these things dropped from about 225% MF with NV.
If you have enough DPS, Act 2 simply nets you more higher level items, though. It has more areas that have long walks between elites; but that increase % of finding good stuff helps. Then again, I'm biased cuz I've run Act 1 like a million times in the past month and it's boring the crap out of me. But, I admit, it's fun to go back there and blow up elite groups in like 10 seconds and hardly have to worry about affixes at all.
