Hi, before we get into this I'd like to state a little bit about myself. I do not gear switch. I don't care about people who do and my honest belief is that the system should be kept the way it is. I know of people who gear switched in Diablo 2 for finishing off mobs and the like, so I don't see how this is of any consequence.
I wrote frequently before the release of the game that Blizzard should remove MF from items before launch, but a blue actually argued with me that because it caused less diversity they wouldn't do it, regardless of the problems it would cause (and did cause).
But my belief is that any option should not punish players who have never or will never gear switch (for mf). I'm hoping that you'll follow me here, in my understanding of why the options are bad (except for the non existent option 6)
Option 1 - MF Cap.
MF Cap is a bad solution, as this is something that will impact all players. I love how all of blizzards options go for nerfs, well done.
Option 2 - Slowly adjust MF over time
We'll get back to this one, but obviously if you're not switching out gear it's not going to impact you. If you find a new item, and it gives like 15% more MF it might impact you for a minute or so while you put it on, OH NOES!
Option 3 - Use you average MF% or your lowest MF% for 5 minutes
5 minutes? Seriously? Just like Option 2 it's going to simply force players to leave one mob of the group behind and then clean them all up in MF gear at the end. Also impacts 'legit' players finding gear with 5 minutes of harshness that they shouldn't receive. 1 minute? fine, 5? seriously?
Option 4 - Zero-Out Your MF% for 3 Minutes After Swapping Gear
14% of you voted that? Really? Let me explain why this out of everything but 1 punishes legitimate players the most. I play a high damage, high survivability character. Often I get hit with a reflect damage mob with desecrator, plagued, etc. My way of dealing with this is to switch to a shield, or switch to a weapon with smaller DPS and huge Life on Hit to mitigate the reflection. In doing so, I would be punished by having no MF? How is that fair? I'm playing the game legitimately, but choosing to adjust my gear when faced with a tough monster.
Option 5 - Gear Swapping Interacts with Nephalem Valor
Once again bad. If there was no cap to Nephalem Valor and no MF on items (as I suggested to blizz eons ago), this wouldn't be a problem, in fact, this would be kind of cool. But here we have an issue. 4-5 NV stacks is huge, as it is a 100% extra rare on that mob. If I find an item midgame that is an improvement, I have to wait till the end of run to equip. If I find a pack that is too hard, It is now more efficient for farming purposes to skip it rather than adjust equipment to counteract it.
Option 5 could only be good if there was a weapon switch you couldn't be punished for (so I could have my LoH weapon or my shield on a switch, that wouldn't impact NV)
-------------------
In conclusion, Option 2 is the only option that is at most a minor inconvenience to players already playing legitimately. I say legitimately only because to my knowledge (from those I play with and friendslists) a large majority of players who do gear swapping do so with the aid of an external program.
Remember, if it's going to change the system, it has to impact those not at fault the least.
This is what I think on MF and I really think this could work:
We had one button in D2 to swtich weapons, it was like an extra weapon slot. Why not make an extra MF slot? we could use only a limited number of items like rings and amulet making it a benefit for some that don't like gear swaping and also mantaining some out (like gloves and else) for the ones that think it's ok.
Everyone wins with that and you guys had a system like that in D2 only for weapons. It's like and extra slot but the only change would be that it can be like "passive" for MF, prices of rings and amulets is the most expensive and MF has dropped a lot (even amulets and rings are way cheaper than any other). So give it a chance and could be a great solution.
Sorry I didn't post it in the original threat but there is no more space on it."
I made a post on the official forums, if you can support it would be great:
Don't say you played Diablo 2 LOD hardcore when you obviously didn't. This is fucking nothing like weapon swapping.
Apples to oranges.
I say you didn't earn an MF kill unless you were able to do with with the gear on. Swapping entire kits isn't fun, and it shouldn't be a part of the game. It gives an unreasonable advantage to players (like me) who know how to use AHK/Auto-it or who have hardware that has built-in macro comparability. It's an exploit and that's all I have to say about it.
I say MF is recalculated 3 minutes after equipping your MF gear. Problem solved, no more exploitation. MF become more valuable, more fun, and the entire game becomes more fair.
Right now I have parties kicking me because I'm not in the mood to swap out of my awesome gears because it doesn't have enough MF even though all it will do is get them one more yellow. Does that really sound like a positive game mechanic?
I think a modified option 4 would be best. Where if you switch out an item that increases your MF you don't get the bonus for 3 minutes, but it doesn't zero out all your MF.
Only allow gear-swapping in town. Elites usually go to full hp once you leave them alone, Blizzard just needs to figure out what bug allows them to sometimes stay less than 100%.
While we're at it I'd like to see NV done away with. Just give elites & bosses a guaranteed drop of 1 rare, adjusted by MF. Blizzard tells me that they want me to experiment and figure out how to defeat tough foes - but then they tell me that I'd better not experiment because I'll lose my NV stacks. That's just silly.
You're making mountains out of molehills over the impacts to "legitimate" players. The only one that is a real inconvenience is the one where the MF is zeroed out.
People are focusing on the trees and not the forest here,
The issue on why all these are horrid choices is because it turns an advantage (increase in finding magic items) into a process. You can what ever you want, but your grasping for the short straw on least painful/punishment choice when Blizzard has failed to recognize the reason why people stacked, bought, and swapped magic find to begin with, which was to gain an advantage in this gear hunting game.
These choices we're given will do very little in the end no matter what! They will knock off a percentage of the swappers, but most will have enough to convert over to MF/stat gear within a day or two and keep on doing it the right way, but as long as people are free to stack MF in the beginning, the economy will get no better no worst...
So in the end, the easiest option is to just leave the damn thing alone...
If people are bitching over a need to MF swap, then Blizz needs to tell them this is a gear hunting game, use AH, RMAH, BUT MAYBE adjust MF% to not be as weighted stat (which means a potential to get more per piece).
Any option, to allow BS to add it, to a separate item, etc that will give everyone a decent MF% 100-200 Kills MF as a Affix stat, and like GF and some what pickup radius, becomes a watse of an affix...
Again, Blizz should leave it alone to the people that do and just focus on real important things:
-Class fixing
-PvP
-Game bugs and issues
-Being able to buy/sell everything in the RMAH
...You know, everything they promised would be a cool part of the game at release but DO NOT have yet...
the real choice is to get rid of gear swapping, just like diablo 2. Allow weapon and offhand swapping only. MF should be something you choose to use when you can, not right before something dies. My goal still is to make a great MF set that I could do almost everything in, and still dps, without the need to swap.
I've learned that Blizzard will often do more harm than good with their fixes so I would prefer that they just leave it alone. Especially after hearing their 5 best "fixes".
