So I just checked with my local Gamestop, where I have a copy of the CE waiting for me on May 15th and they told me some sad, sad news:
They didn't sell enough pre-orders of the CE or game to do a midnight release.
So I have to wait until 10:00 a.m. (central time) on Tuesday the 15th to get my copy and put in the CD key to the client that will already be downloaded to my machine.
So I'm sure there is some rock solid logic and reasoning as to why the game can't be sold and picked up sooner - with the client already being able to be downloaded and ready to go - why can't we get our tangible copies a few days eariler and be ready to put in the key and play when the servers go live.
I know, I know - "OMG just buy a digital copy you noob!" And I may still go that additional route as well. However, I'm throwing out the question to the DFans.com forum cosmos - Why no Blizzard gimme mah game noaw!!!
Im from Aus and my local EB Games told me that they dont get told until 2-3 days till release if they are having a midnight release. They had always done it for the wow xpacs so touch wood D3 gets the same treatment. But the strange thing is the store manager said its not up to her or head office its up to the company releasing the game and they only get about 2-3 days notice.
Sooo not sure weather thats blizz or the Aus distributer but fingers crossed.
That's wierd because I'm also from Aus and my friend who works at my local EB told me they are definetly having a midnight launch for D3. They also said they had sold out all thier CE copies about 2 weeks after announcement.
From what I understand the servers will be live when it is 4AM AEST?
Isnt CE a waste of money really, you can get all those infos like behind scene artwork form internet later after relese anyway, and CE dont make you any superior ingame than standart edition, except for heroism that u spend more money on it
Anyway I preodered D3 DVD version from shopto.net and am very pleased with they services.
In South Africa, the CE sells for R170 more than the SE, which is only 30% more (as opposed to 60% more you would pay for CE in the states), so I think it is totally worth it. All those goodies (in print) plus D2 Lod with an awesome flashie, plus in game stuffs. For me it was totally worth it. Plus it helped me hugely to get a beta key :D.

I could be getting my CE as late as the 22nd.... Of course I'd like to have it as soon as possible, but I simply can't afford to rush to 60 with bloodshot eyes and grind grind grind like I used to anyways. A few day's difference isn't so bad especially given all the problems we're likely to experience.

My E.B games in west Aus is in a massive shopping complex so there not allowed to do midnight releases
I'll pick up my CE at 10am and in the best case will be able to install the game at 12:30 (long drive home from where I preordered the CE).
After all, what are those 12 hours compared to a midnight release going to matter once you hit 60? I did a midnight release party once for wow and I have to say I'm going to prefer it the way I do it now. Driving to town by train, then do a breakfast stop at some small coffee and then get to my retailer pick up my CE. During the time it takes me to get home I can look through all the CE goodies and get totally hyped!
Why Blizz doesn't allow to sell copies a day earlier, my guess would be, that there would be too many people that'd be upset that they have the game but can not get online until midnight. Too much confusion for a casual
That sounds pretty awesome. The midnight release of SC2 at my local retailer only pulled like 15 people. It was kinda crummy, but my girlfriend and I (and another mate) made the best of it, taking photo's with the life sized Jim Raynor, and getting up to other schenigans. The wait will be totally worth it!
The upside to the poor attendance is that they had like 10 prizes to give away (blizzard Shirts, noobz dolls etc), so I got something extra.

I went to speak to the guys at EB games in Chadstone and they said they would be having a midnight launch on Monday the 14th night, so before the American release.
The last game I bought was SC2 roughly two years ago, the second last much longer ago. So for my philosophy the CE is totally worth its money. Also, for my price region, CHF, compared to the EUR zone, the CE is about the same price. The SE would be about 30% more compared to the EU zone. So Im fine with it.
The one downside I feel right now is that a friend of mine got an online copy directly from Blizz which means he will be able to play before me, unless Blizz starts its EU servers as of midnight on the Westcoast which is then 10 am for me where I could have my copy in the box
Haha, while I can understand your guy's excitment. 10 AM the following morning is not bad. Just get plenty of sleep in preparation for the longest gaming stretch of your lives.
I have a CE pre-ordered, but I also went ahead and bought a digital version. My wife will be playing with me, so I can justify buying two copies. Of course I'll be keeping the CE goodies though
I will just do the 100% safe b.net download ready for midnight. I will 99% buy a CE as well after the fact and I don't think they'll be that scarce on amazon or ebay or wherever.
Good luck with that, collectors eds are selling out everywhere. I saw someone chucking an A grade meltdown at a local store here when they were told they cant get any more collectors eds. (kinda weird considering they have plenty of time to crank out more)
Thats why its a "collectors edition" because its a limited supply thus being collectable

I pre-ordered my CE copy from an EB games in Sydney, Australia which is also in a huge complex. I asked if they were going to do a midnight release but they did not know at that time ( pre-ordered last year). That same store has done midnight releases for heaps of games in the past. They did a midnight release for MW3 and he said that their diablo 3 preorder numbers were expected to go even higher than the numbers that MW3 hit. He said that they organise it with the complex and they just leave one of the entrances to the center open with security present during that period. But I guess I wont be able to find out for sure until very close to the release date.
If you wanna have the CE... I would suggest hurrying cause they are selling like hot cakes. Amazon is out of them so is Best buy and soon futureshop (I live in Canada :D).
I ordered the annual pass and downloaded the game client.
I also have the CE coming from Best Buy. They said it will be delivered the 15th or 16th, i just hope i can put the CE key over the regular key, and refund the regular key for a different account.
