I don't think you fully understood my post... i never once said not all skills are useful. I said not all runes are useful. There are some straight up worthless runes... also the majority of my post is about the absolute stupidity of skill swapping.
Melee Wizard and caster Witch doctor are by no means non mainstream builds.... Melee wizard is so rampantly talked about its not even funny... and the WD has more dps spells than summons. Just because someone doesn't take gargantuan or zombi dogs doesn't mean they are an oddball build?
as someone who loves to make weird builds and who has spent hundreds of hours on that D3 skill calc. i have yet to find one "completely useless rune" out of all of them. and ive made over 100 completely different seemingly very viable builds. and in D2 there was literally only 30 viable end-game builds between ALL classes combined. it ALL depends on what your going for and in conjunction with your other skills/runes in D3. please name the 100% worthless runes. because there arent any. its all about your personal playstyle and opinon. in D2 there indeed was MANY 100% useless skills. some useless just because of immune monsters, which are not and will not be in D3. but in D3 there are no "useless" skills or runes.

its only "bad lag" is due to about 100k new people playing and very few servers. It runs fine every other day. One key point of you even getting in now, was for them to see how the game plays when a server is filled way to much. You can expect more servers / less lag in the days to come
as for what you said about talent system, I really like this pic
Except with good gear that player will have around 18 viable skills to use with his main skills being level 40+ whilst his minor and lesser used skills being level 20+
D3 You have only 6 Skills, it's far less even if you wheren't using all your skills in D2 you still thought you were choosing which ones to use and not the game deciding for you.
But not only that it's actually enoyable to add your own bias to a particular skill to give you the feeling of uniqueness and decision making.
I would add that I think the current system could work if you could change the skills from the hotbar in the bias of the current skill type (spender etc for clearity) and still get the cool down.
And level up the runes themselves through use so that it actually feels like you are getting more power out of a rune and being more unique to other players who might be leveling another rune type with various stastical benefits etc. Also I think that all skills should have a specific rune assignment remebered upon switching, So even if you swap the original assignment is remembered etc.

Plague of Toads - Golden.
Sorry but the mana reduction on an already relatively cheap skill just doesn't cut it when compared to all of the other 4 ruins for the skill.

if your build doesnt have any mana regen skills/passives its useful. mana regen DOESNT increase per level only your mana pool increases as well as mana costs. once your high enough plague of toads will cost alot and your mana wont regen fast and with fast caster speed you will not be able to spam it infinitely without the golden rune.
any other runes besides that one?

In regards to the two skill systems, I can totally understand the similarity in choosing a number of skills that become your build (a la giant picture from Molster). There are however, some small differences between the two systems that are probably not important to most, and are definitely not important in the long term for any character, but I'll miss them a little bit.
- In D2, you had control over how strong a skill was at a specific point in your progression. You could choose to focus all of your skill points on one skill, or spread them out as you went. That did effect how you played. In D3 all (base) skills will be at max power for your character level. This really only mattered if you weren't rushing, but still...
- In D2, you had some control over the relative strengths of some skills at end game. You could end up with certain skills maxed, while other skills only had 8 to 15 points in them. Again, I know that this really didn't matter that much as we usually didn't need any more points in the ones we didn't max, but I guess I just liked the IDEA that we could choose to have certain skills be stronger because of a decision we made.
- In D2, you could choose to invest heavily into low level skills to change the play experience. Now before you explode in anger and hatred, let me say that I realize that is a biproduct of an imperfect skill system, and that you were very unlikely to complete all three difficulties with most of those strategies. I imagine I won't miss this one since the D3 system is better in this regard, but it still gave me some pleasure in the later years of playing D2.
I'm not a hater. I can see myself liking D3 quite a lot, but any time you make a game system decision, you have to give up something. These just happen to be some small things that were given up to make way for more important ideas.

the skill system in D3 didnt change these things. making all abilities Weapon dmg based did. which was a genius move. far more balanced now. now low level skills are just as viable as high lvl skills with a good weapon. all skills are more equal so you dont need skill point spamming to boost a skill

It will be kinda the same with the rune system. Either u heavily invest in maxing one rune or spread them. Same goes for most concerns in this thread: we'll still need to make critical decisions, etc...
Anyways, we don't even know for sure how the runes will work, nor any1 of us had the experience of playiong through the game, so it's ridiculous to guess how it will feel.

runes dont level up and none of the ideas relayed have even hinted at runes leveling up. runes all drop sepparately, so its random at what runes drop and each difficulty drops different levels of runes.

I beleive thay stated earlier about leveling them up. Even said at some point that level 5+ runes don't drop at all, u ought to gain them only through combining lesser ones. So we don't know for sure untill at least they oficcially reveal this system.

no, they never said anything about them leveling up, ever. and the last 3 levels of runes at one short point were only craftable by salvaging some lower runes and using the materials to craft higher ones. but that was all removed from the main site. but again, nothing about them "leveling up"
The Beta is great so far, the game feels good, looks good and there systems are intuitive, apart from a view bugs the game runs good, I like they have taken a step FORWARD with the skill choice system and am looking forward to playing around with the runes!

1. So we have decided to go wtih the wow stat system? What happened to putting stats into your character i guess that allowed for to much thinking, creativity and thought. Cant have that. gotta get diablo 3 into the mmo fold.
2. Instead of spending points to unlock abilities, which ill be honest isnt a revolutionary idea by any stretch but now we have an even more dumbed down system where you can pick from a pool of all abilities and use any 6 at a time? Can you say guild wars? Again having to put point into somthing, and make decisions is to complicated for gamers much better to just give you access to every ability and allow you to change on the fly so as not to force you to think to much.
3. Cant even post on the official beta boards because it says my game time has expired
4. This is the worst running beta i have ever played, Latency, stuttering, error codes you name it. I played swtor, and wow through most of there beta testing and i have to say its not even close. This game is not in the ball park of being close to release, despite blizzards best efforts to gut as much content, and as many graphicical animations as humanly possible to toss this game out the door. It will be 6 months minimum before this game releases.
5. The auction house uses real money.... ??? i had read about this hoped it was a joke, nope.
6. No single player option, not even an option..................theres a blue explanation but its just not valid. you buy a game you expect to be able to play it end of story regardless of what the status of your network is, part of bringing diablo 3 closer in the mmo fold..
In summary this game is bad, Real bad not in the way starcraft 2 was. You see starcraft 2 was actually a great game, however it was starcraft 1 with a paint job, not a whole lot new some polish some flair but it was the same game which was good in the fact that it didnt take a step backwards but bad in the way that i was hoping for just a glimmer of original though from blizzard. however with diablo 3 this is not the case this game takes about a thousand steps backward with the mmo style stat system, real money auction house, no single player etc. etc. What your left with is a game that looks and plays like diablo 2 with a paint job except that instead on improving the orignal by adding unique and original ideas we dumb the game down, butcher free thought and creativity, and make it so that no one who ever plays this game will ever have to think about anything.
As far as this game running like crap, its blizzard im sure that it will run fine at release however i just wanted to point out the horrid! performance because i know alot of people are waiting for this game and i just dont see how it could possibly be out qtr 1.
Good luck fans!!!

Interesting view point. So a complaint of any kind against a portion of a Blizzard game is indicative of simplemindedness? I agree the OP appears to be more of a rant than an actual constructive criticism but you seem to have taken it upon yourself to insult anyone who may dare not gush every aspect of this game. The beta definitely fills me with hope for the final release but I can sympathize with people not loving every part of it.
Yay! someone else who hasn't done the math! Guess what bud, D3 has over 1.5 billion builds per class. Take that to the bank and cash it.
I get your point but these are just arbitrary numbers anyway. It's like saying the rubiks cube is some sort of infinite puzzle because it's got a total number of 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 possible permutations. Yet it can always be solved in 20 moves. I know my analogy isn't the best but my point is even though there's ~1.5 billion builds per class each individual aren't going to use more than a handful.
+1 - Just because there are 2Billion possible builds doesn't mean you really hav that much build diversity. Quite honestly alot of the runes are worthless and will practically NEVER be chosen. Either that or its situational, and will only be used for X boss or PVP.
And those skills that are being chosen... how much of a build difference does X% poison damage versus X% fire damage for one skil (that can be switched within 30 seconds to the other) really make?
I'm a huge fan of diablo 3 ... and i'm going to buy the game regardless of my opinion on the matter... but respecing the way it currently is in game is fucking dumb.
>>>>>>OMG I CAN'T TRY OUT MY NEW SKILL WITHOUT A GOLD COST... WTF.... THIS IS GAME BREAKING... THERES A POTENTIAL SKILL I COULD TRY... WILL USE FOR 5 SECONDS AND NEVER USE AGAIN... AND I CAN'T TRY IT WAHHHHHHH<<<<<<<<
Skill swapping should never have been added to the game. Respecing fine... but skill swapping is fucking noob.
I want to troll but I wont. There is one thing though you need to learn about the gaming community. We love to do things off of the norm. The big build diversity allows players to find the worse combination possible and then try to beat the game using it. It allows more room for bring a challege outside of Hardcore and Inferno. It also allows players to make a build that is different from the feel of the class. Like going melee wizard. Or a caster witch doctor. There are always going to be the mainstream builds but there will still be builds not so mainstream but still just as powerful if not more.
And you didn't fully understand mine. I talked about why people would choose the skills that aren't chosen. And Melee Wizard might be talked about a lot but majority of the people playing that class will stick with ranged. And the wizard is pretty much advertised as the ranged caster. And all the runes do is add a different affect to the skills themselfs. They don't really change the basics of the skill. Plus they are all useful depending upon what you like. People play differently so they might not seem useful to you but I can see different play styles that would require each rune type for almost every skill.

Oh no, not this again. Can people please stop going on how disappointed they are in the beta, it got old back in 2011. You're not getting anywhere, and we are all getting a bit jaded waiting for a release date. Excitement is waning, and we are all in waiting together. Can we do one another a favor and just relax already.
1. The general consensus has been that this is a good step, except for a few deluded individual, that is. The old system was anything but creative, you were forced into decisions that came with a finality of wrong choices made. The new system is 100% item driven and that is far more in line with the Diablo 'item hunt' mentality, plus you have gems to customize your build even more.
2. And another moot point. Have you heard about runes? Yes, basically they are itemized skill points (which may not be refundable if they are locked into a skill). You use runes to build your selection of skills. So what if you have all of the skills available to you, you still need to build them by 'spending' runes, which is a limited resource. Basically the game is using items to build skills, and again, that is far more in line with the Diablo 'item hunt' mentality. Get it?
3. That is called a technical error, and I fail to see how that reflects negatively on the game.
4. Latency, stuttering, error codes... damn, I wish they had some way of testing the game so they can flesh out all of these problems, at least then the release wont suffer the same issues... If only there was a way...
5. Deja Vu!!! Were you in suspended animation over the last few months? The RMAH is good for the game, it will make it very difficult for outside influences to create third party crap. It's actually good for the player. Plus, its run by the players, for the players. I really fail to see the issue people have with it.
6. No single player option, not even an option.................. Yes, there is a single player option. Or are you referring to online only? The only expectation I have with this is for Blizzard to be constantly adding content and patching bugs. Plus, I played Diablo 2 constantly with my friends and I'm intending to do the same in D3. Since this is a co-op game, I think a very small minority will have issues with this.
Good luck fans!!!
Thanks, can't wait not to see you in game.
Anyway I'll throw my 2c into the mix too...Btw use the search button first!
1) Stats were a silly and pointless feature in D2... In D1 you maxed out your stats using elixirs which made stats pointless. Now in D3 they have made it so you don't spend points and don't have to worry about it... They can also better balance the later difficulties and END GAME...
2)You don't spend gold or anything to change your skill atm... You have to wait 30 seconds before you use your newly selected ability and can't change it out if it has a cooldown until it's off that cooldown. Runes is another factor which we haven't been told about cause its SID(still in development). The only thing we know of is that they change skills quite drastically which = more skill options = build diversity = loads better... I hate to say this but even look at WoW you now Have Dual Specs which you can change with a push of a button then wait a few sec...
3) Blizzard has said something along the lines of "you won't be able to post until your account is fully flagged, which is when you receive the email"
4) Blah Blah bah get over your self, Beta is Beta for a reason and Laggy servers now is cause of the influx of a HUGE amount of new players into the Beta...
5) RMAH is only for the softcore crowd, there is also the Gold AH. The fact you didn't mention the Gold AH just proves your prejudice towards the RMAH, it doesn't effect you in anyway. You don't have to use it either.
6) No single player? You can play Single Player. You just have to be online to play the game, just like WoW. No one kicked up a s**t storm when people found out WoW was online only... This is a Co-op game with a single player element. To play co-op you need to be online...

To play co-op you need to be online...
blah blah blah trollolololol
