Just wondering, been reading here and there, debates about whether there's a zoom function in diablo 3. Wapedia says it has, but I haven't read anything concrete, like comments from players who've played the demo.
Also, is it just a zoom in like a digital zoom in a camera, or can you change angles like in warcraft 3 (though the experience of the game will change slightly, since you're no longer high up)?
What I wish you could do is ROTATE the god damn camera. But I have seen nothing of that sort yet and I bet we won't have it, which really tick me off. Hey, its 2009, but still we won't give you the ability to rotate the camera in a 3D world, right? There was a bunch of topics about that a long while ago on blizzard's forum, but almost no one cared.
They talked about why there is no camera control other than zooming in a bit. Once you allow the camera angle to move than the entire surrounding has to be made available in a complete 360 around your character. This greatly increases the amount of information the game has to process. Because of that, the quality of the graphics would have to go down to allow more pixels for your surrounding. With the isometric camera angel, the game only has to worry about producing the images of only what is in view. This greatly lowers the pixel count and that allows them to increase detail of the overall game. I can't even think of a time in D2 where I was like "dammit, I wish I could rotate this camera." This isn't resident evil 1 where you can't see what is attacking you. They give you plenty of view around your character.

I think it will probably be wheel button because spells are bound where the potions use to be... Much like in Wow, which btw is a great system.
I am actually glad that it is an isometric view because most games of this genre that are 360 degrees are confusing, and disorienting. Although it is cool for some instances, the majority of the time when you are playing you will use the same angle anyway.
I don't know if this is the truth or not, SFJake, but, if rotating isn't in the game, it might be excluded because they won't have to account for the backs of static objects. Like, if you only have one perspective, you won't see the other side. Less to worry about for them. Lazy, though.

I, for one, have no desire to see the backsides of static objects.
Pretty sure I recall hearing a dev say that the ability to zoom and rotate in D3 was solely for the purpose of the demos and stuff, that it won't exist due to the isometric view. And like others said, makes the game have to process data that would be too much, especially for lower end PCs.

If you could change the angle of the camera wouldn't it not be an isometric game anymore? I think that is one of the core features they decided to carry over and preserve from D1 and D2.
Full 3D rotating camera games (especially mmos) are terrible in my opinion. They're all boring to me. Once you've played one you've played the majority of them available(mmos). In my experience having the ability to rotate the camera usually means that the game will contain moments where if you don't change the angle you won't be able to see where you're going, I'd rather not have that.
I wouldn't mind that zoom feature they showed in the WWI video, it would be nice to use if only to get a closer look of your character, most likely while outside of battle.
That's only my opinion though, I'm picky and I'm sure I have much less gaming experience than many or most of the members on these forums.

Zoom = I believe so.
