Just thought it'd be cool to have the looks of skills modified as you put more points into them. Doesn't necessarily have to be for all lvls. Since there are 5, blizzard can do 3, 1 for every other level. Or it could be a gradual change through the 5 lvls, with a slight change in each. Gives more feedback on how powerful the skills have gotten. And also adds to variety and awesomeness.
I know the runes will affect how the skills work, and maybe change how they look even. But just wanted the levels to indicate something as well.
Doesn't have to be a major change (at least not for all spells):
- could just change the color for some spells. Maybe start out with green... and by level 5, bright red..
- for skills with rune circles, maybe change the look of the circle, or add things to it as it becomes stronger
That would be kinda cool. My only concern is that since all the skills look really awesome and over the top to begin with, I'd be concerned that they would end up dumbing their early levels down in terms of coolness instead of making them get progressively better. That and just the fact that when factoring in modifications from runes it may end up being a lot of extra development time that doesn't really add to the game much. I'm all for them takjing their time to deliver a great game, but I do want to play it someday.

I agree that it would probably add development time if you had different looks for levels and runes with skills, but I do think that it would be awesome if they did it. Good idea.
yea, true, dev time. but i think they could still pull it off relatively easily. don't do anything complicated, but just... u know change the colours, for diff level, like the shades of the colours, and maybe this skill at a low level shows 3 punches but at a higher lvl shows 7-8 (eg: way of the 100 fists) that can come in once everything else is done. Just to add variety to looks - since this is a game we're gonna play for quite a long time, try not to let it get old. Of course, they could just do that for the expansions, and have the original come out sooner
actually this is what i'm looking for: variety (i think jay wilson said it somewhere, that things just got old because they happened too often)
skills... you're going to focus on a few. so after a day or 2 of intense playing... it kinda gets old if it's all the same. That's why cooldowns are so important, so that you don't just spam your way through and get sick of it after a while.
of course they're doing certain things to maximise the longetivity of the freshness of everything.. by not having them occur too often, I like that. I also liked the idea of fatalities. I wish they could happen from time to time with monsters (chop off the head, it flies somewhere, cut the body in half...). Also I've been wondering since... D1 or D2... can we not strike in the same way everytime? Maybe let it vary randomly. A few different chopping actions. Not a high priority, but still would be nice.
One thing i don't like is the emphasis on explosions. I like explosions. And I think they're trying to cross the line and pull themselves back to the point where it's just awesome enough without being too much. That's good. But we can probably explore other ideas, other than explosions. That's why i mentioned fatalities.
oooh, yea, there was this one idea about having a special zoom in during an epic fight. like say you're going 1 on 1 with a boss, and you're delivering a critical blow, or a finishing move, they can zoom in and have the camera pan around and add flashes or something (akin to street fighter), that'd be a nice touch, i think. Because if all bosses blow up, or all mini-bosses blow up... that's just.. not fun.
Holy jesus thats alot of typing. I pretty much agree with everything you said though, and yes i would love it if skills changed when you upgraded them.

Raiken Errysilath, just about everything in your response was gold. I don't have time to go through point by point since I'm about to head out, but just wanted to throw in a quick good thinkin/good job.
"I'm just curious, are Blizzard going to stay with 5 levels per skill? Because that would mean that you have like 20 skills... I don't care if many are passive, I can't handle so many skills, it confuses me.[/quote]
I believe they have said that skills will have a max of 5, but for the skills you wish to add to more there will be a way to increase the cap of that skill.
I agree a progression of looks would be nice, but as some have mentioned, as long as it does not make them minimize early forms of the spells. One other potential problem with them changing the color of the spell is what if you liked the look of the spell better in its earlier form?
Whenever I type an apostrophe I get kicked out of whatever I was typing in the response box at the time and it takes me to an annoying feature called "quick find."(toward bottom left border of the browser) I then click back on where I was typing and continue having to change an abbreviated word that I would have used an apostrophe for to the full version.
I know this is minor, but it at times bugs the heck out of me. Does anyone know how to fix or disable this. Is it a problem with firefox? (Do not really notice it happening on other sights) or is it a diablofans related issue?
Thanks for any help.

I think runes and passive synergy-like skills are there for it, expeciallly runes.
Ofc if implemented it wound't hurt :), but i feel this is very unlikely to happen
Yea, runes add variety... true... and they really look awesome. Guess if they have the time, and it does add coolness to the game, they can implement the different looks in spell lvls. Coz the game has to be awesome even in the minute details.
All thats important: pointless waste of time. Runes are already going to modify how your skills look. And you will get better runes over time. So, your skills will look different later on already.
No need for more differences between skill levels. Its just too much.
They better not screw the rune system up. After syngergies i just dont know anymore.

Well i mean that the syngergy system sucks so i hope they dont do the same to runes.

Yup which is why hopefully the rune system will rock.

Awesome!
Thanks! Clearing the cache worked.
I guess I should have googled for a solution, it's my usual answer to many problems, for some reason though I never thought to do so.
Thanks again.
