This thread was inspired by sanctus' post about the possible return of the Butcher in Diablo 3.After flipping through the other pages of Cain's journal and analyzing the concept art next to the text, I thought a few pictures would be worth discussing.
Picture 1
Is this some sort of potential Paladin-like character? His body type and armor do not seem to fit the mold of either the existing Barbarian or an enemy soldier. It seems he may be one of four things:
1. A playable character class.
2. A new type of mercenary.
3. A NPC we have yet to meet in the previous games.
4. A generic heavenly warrior (not playable)
Picture 2
Notice the humanoid creature with wings crouching on the spire. It looks like some sort of angel/demon/human hybrid combination.
Picture 3
To me, this seems to be some sort of demon lord or corrupted angel. The reason I say this is because its armor...
a) is somewhat regal, with its intricate/fancy detail and gemstone encrusted sleeves
has the well-known circular pieces on its breastplate, typically associated with Tyrael/the spiritual realm (see below)
c) in addition to a & b, it is clearly evil (skull shoulder plates)
d) if a through c is true, then the absence of wings may be something to note as well
Picture 1 looks like it could be a Triune Warrior of some kind. Due to the fact that it doesn't look like he can see through that helm and thats the same thing they did with the Triune Leader Blood Guard Picture.
Maybe its some sort of a ''Blademaster'' that will be the next announced class
I like that idea!

Hmmm, interesting point.
Yeah, to me he seems a bit too sophisticated/clean to fall into that sort of evil category.
Also, picture 1 has already been "investigated" in this thread. I don't see how he could be too sophisticated for Triune. I'd imagine him to be a guardian of something. He seems like a silent protector. Could be a guard of a Triune temple or some unholy site. I really don't see him as being a barbarian. The armor is too complete and overbearing. Barbarians are more "bare" with pieces of armor such as this. Just my idea.
I doubt that pic #1 is of anew class. First off, the journal isn't talking about anything new. In fact that part of the journal is still dealing with D1. I'm pretty sure its just concept art of the warrior from D1 since the text on that page reads "I ventured outdoors to await the warriors return. He finally emerged, covered in blood - much his own, much his enemies'."

I doubt that the person in pic #1 is someone new since that part of the journal is talking about D1. Also, I believe that the char is just a concept art of the warrior from D1 since the journal on that page is " I ventured outdoors to await the warrior's return. He finally emerged, covered in blood - much his own, much his enemies'."

Some of the concept art in the journal is indeed identical to the concept art found in the Media section on the official D3 website. This leads one to believe that the entire journal is of Diablo 3 concept art, and not of the other games. Further evidence of this is that there is concept art of Cain on the first journal page. Cain was in both previous games so it could possibly be concept art from the previous games; yet his staff did not look like that. It does in Diablo 3.
One reason why I didn't pick apart the pictures at first was because I thought they had to do with the story itself. This was a while ago when the website launched. Reading through it again just recently, and looking at the concept art on each page... wait a minute, these images have nothing to do with what's written on the opposite page. There are a few exceptions, such as Cain speaking of the witch that arrived in town, and on the opposing page is a caricature of a woman. The woman could be the witch. Or it could be Leah from Diablo 3, wearing a hood. Frankly the graphics in Diablo 1 were so low res that we don't really have any concept of what specific facial features any of the characters had.
It gets me thinking of the summoner in Hellgate London, and how in the higher tiers of skills it was supposed to be able to transform into different types of demons itself (but they never implemented this in the game). Would be kind of cool. Could be the new "shapeshifting" staple.
Well pic 1 looks (based on dual blades) that its a primarily melee character. Given that I doubt its a playable class since the other two are almost definately going to be a hybrid type and bow type. But I could be totally wrong. Could be a melee caster class. In any case I hope that armor makes it into D3.
Also good point on the fact that its not a D3 section. Could just be random art that didn't make the cut into any games so it ended up there.

Apparently freezing yourself is fatal. HOW ARE YOU PEOPLE COPING?!
Firstly I think everyone is reading too much into this - my bet is that it is simply a piece of random, pre-existing or unused concept artwork that they used to represent the hero from D1 - based on the content in the journal (which I am aware doesn't always match the content).
I mean - look at his pose. It is incredibly strong, noble and heroic, hands on hips, holding two very heavy oversized looking swords, sure of himself, and wearing detailed, heavy armour - almost certainly is being drawn as some sort of hero. _Absolutely not_ an enemy of any sort.
Most likely concept art for the class that they were concepting before the barbarian that they scrapped. Makes sense that they might recylcle this for cains journal to act as a visual aid to the "hero" from D1.

So, what do you guys think?
Yeah, I was thinking that, or maybe it is a helmet?

a) some unplayable char
barb in armor

There is no info on a DI warrior who could dual wield or who wore weird armor like that. This is someone else.

Pic 2: It's just a random demon. Problably somekind of temptress or female gargoyle.
Pic 3: I don't know about this one. But it surely suits a fallen angel enemy.
Here's something I felt like speculating.
A demon summoning class.
It gets me thinking of the summoner in Hellgate London, and how in the higher tiers of skills it was supposed to be able to transform into different types of demons itself (but they never implemented this in the game). Would be kind of cool. Could be the new "shapeshifting" staple.
