yes it does but then why not name swords as follows:
grief pb now = best sword (or sword of fast attack and lots of damage)
botd = second best sword (sword of damage)
last wish now = third best sword (sword of crushing blow and life tap)
like it just takes all the magic out of the game. when we find ancient symbols or drawings do we name them based on exactly how we see them. If we found the mona lisa or however u spell it 100 years from now (say it was lost and no one knew what it was) would we then call it 'drawing of ugly woman' ?
keeping names like zod, jah, lem etc keep the unknown and mysteries in the game. We will always be wondering, perhaps there is some ancient people who made these runes damn im so glad i get to use what they did, this is so sweet. escpecially cuz its so rare! iv got one and none of my friends have one
Normally I dont give a shit about naming.....but I gotta agree with you here, the cool names they gave the runes in D2...was well cool and helped out the flavor of the game a bit
Oh fucking wait, Diablo 3 is a sequel to Diablo 2..... not a completely different game...
Look at Diablo 2. Now look at Diablo 1. They are immensely different, correct? Aside from the story and lore, the only true similarity they have is the genre, correct? Health, weapons, mana, spells, same old genre. Diablo 3 may be the sequel to Diablo 2, but Diablo 3 is NOT the same game as Diablo 2. They ARE two completely different games. Essentially made by two different companies at that!
All I am trying to say is I wouldn't mind not having them in D3.
Also, if they do exist make them easier to find. I have killed probably killed over 100,000 monsters in hell since I bought the game so many years ago, and I have found 2 legitimate HR's and several moderate HR's. Yet my characters net worth in HR's is probably somewhere around 250 HR's (non-ladder). Which means nearly all of those were probably duped. If duping is halted in D3, runewords would be quasi-impossible to obtain if the same mechanic is kept.

iv never found a hr... highest iv found outside of the hellforge is mal at the countess
they obviously would lower the rarity of the runes... so it would be fine
I see where you are going. The only thing that ruined runewords was duping which they surely will mend in D3, but I think a better system can and will be produced.
First they were not good enough, then after 1.10 they were way too good. Better leave the itemization for rares, uniqs and sets, probably easier to balance them also.
Let Blizzard do what they want. If you make a petition about every little thing they've changed, you'll become the Boy who Cried Wolf and won't be taken seriously when it really matters.
anyone think that runes should be called their original names, instead of 'rune of power' for example.... so lame imo... it should be called something like zod, and then when moused over should show what it does. the description shouldnt be in the name
Um, OK.
DIII runes.
Have nothing.
Nothing.
NOTHING.
To do with DII runes. Therefore, they cannot be called Zod and Jah and Lem and all those other stupid little names. Because that would mean that DII runes suddenly transformed and started affecting skills, and that's not it.
Runewords ruined DII (multiplayer) after patch 1.10...
Only because they were overpowered.....do you hate COA for being insanely good? or Hoz for being very powerful? No probably not but there better then most runewords
No thanks to runewords. They're used for skills and not gear, something which I think is a great advancement. It keeps them desireable while removing the inbalanced runewords completley. The runewords that weren't OP were replaced too quickly to even be worth making, and the gaming community had this sense of entitlement to the endgame runewords that started the duping of them in the first place. It took the heat of almost all the items found in the game. Sets are considered noob gear, any Hammerdin's socketable gear would be composed of Runewords except for the head, and HRs are not attainable on the scale they are on D2. The chance of Baal dropping both a Ber and a Jah (not necessarily at the same time) in a full game is 0.000000056856%. Why does at least every second account have an Enigma? Because runewords were so imbalanced that they were made obainable at any price and cost of gameplay integrity.
If they nerf runewords, then nobody will care about them because they're too much of a hassle to build. If they increase runedrop chance, other items will become obsolete again. Pre-LoD and even WoW did it better, you can upgrade gear with socketables, the base item will still be what it was before, except with some improved stats of your choosing, and not some faceroll product that'll let you roflstomp the game.
I personally can't put it better myself. Every item is now considered "shitty" unless you get enough sockets to runeword the shit out of it, and make a completely different, and considerably more powerful, item that obliterates any other in the game. No more uniques..just runeword'd items. It's ridiculous, ESPECIALLY for players who like to play the game with good conscious and not just buy runes, dupe, or do anyother dirty thing.

Not entirely true. Plenty rare items(yellow text) are insanely powerful and better in some cases then a lot of runewords...hell plenty of uniques are used on the best and most common builds as much as runewords nowadays
I'm talking about runewords with HRs that render almost any other item useless in comparison to the perks they grant.
Still many rares and uinques are used in many slots over the best runewords....tho yes there are some runewords that are obviously better then all other gear in the game for certain builds.....spirit, nigma, and SOMETIMES hoto....thats all I can think of tho......well melee generally only chooses between botd/LW/grief lately there are still great unique and ridiclous rare choices for there weps as well
I don't know why but I'm getting sick and tired of these worthless petitions. We haven't even seen the new customization system, so why even bother asking blizzard to put that broken system back into a game in development ? Lets just remember that they haven't even finished act II and even less the whole game mechanics!

Indeed petitions are stupid and pointless.....im just here discussing the topic...not trying to promote any petition.
Thats a pointless petition.
Blizzard and D3 are not our to make petitions after petition to change the game the way we want.. thats not the way things work. Oposite from what a petition sugests, we have no rights about D3 development. All a petition can do is represent a feedback from the comunity. And the feedback about the end of runewords was very positive.
I made all of my runewords by finding the runes or trading items of equal or greater value for runes that I had found and used to make. This includes my hoto, enigma, etc.
If you think that runeswords are bad because runes are duped, that's a cheating issue which has nothing to do with the rune word mechanic.
Let Blizzard do what they want. If you make a petition about every little thing they've changed, you'll become the Boy who Cried Wolf and won't be taken seriously when it really matters.
Agreed, it's not really a huge deal.
