That's multiplayer. Has nothing to do with ladders.
Yeah you mean competition? For me there wouldn't really be any if there wasn't any ladders I could go check how I am doing.
And trading is a bit different in official realms where there are thousands of players than in some private realm with 20 players. And it is also different in Ladder where you can be quite sure the items are not cheated in any way.. at least in classic. In non ladder there are all kinds of dupes around.
And you can go check how you are doing because there are other players to check against, hence, multiplayer.
Trading is different. Because of multiplayer. And in SP, there is nothing cheated except the stuff that you cheated yourself.
You're talking about multiplayer. More precisely, b.net. Even then, someone copied b.net. Blizzard just didn't allow it. >>
I never would've bought WoW at all if it weren't for private servers...
mm.. you bought it and then play in private servers ..? whot? can't you just download it and then play in private.. but seriously playing a game like wow in private servers ehh sounds weird. I know people played game like UO in those private servers but wow is a bit more advanced and offers a lot of stuff for those who pay for it
Do you mean the impossibilty of not doing them? If so, you can still obtain them, they are just more expensive...
well, the IMpossibility of doing is equal to Possibility(fact in this case) of Not doing
but the later sound weird. Lol
i actually still have all my acounts intact, it is so by the hard work of me and 2 friends in 6 months
i just could not delete my melee sorc with dream helm and shield, with CoH soj, bul kathos, mara, dracul that runeword on a phase blade that gives holy fire... merc wiht infinity, etheral fortitude, andariels
she is simply awesome, ahw the old days
i hope diablo 3 is at the same level or better

What.. those items doesn't sound like old days to me
Has this question ("wil there be online verification") been asled in the official forum? If not, why doesnt someone ask (i dont have an account myself there)? I think Bashiok would answer this kind of question.
I think they were already asked about DRM and such stuff and the answer was that battle.net and CD-KEY verification on logging there should be enough to keep people buying the game.
Well, its a bad idea (not that its wrong to do it but its pointless).
To play on battle.net you HAVE to buy the game, unless you want to play on c**p private servers.
And we all know that all those online verifications to play single player mode doesn't work, people crack the game in 1-2 weaks max (just like they did with GTA 4 and a lot of games that requires online verification).
you guys are missing what the op said. Half life 2 and most steam games work like this. yes you have a cd key you install it. but the only way to run the game is if you have a internet connection to verify that it is a genuine cd key. even if you want to play solo player. just to start up the game you need a internet connection. let me give you a example. you want to play Diablo 2, you click the exe, before the game loads some sort of verification process is run to make sure you have a real copy. then the game is started. just to play the game offline.
I dont mind how they do this stuff with CD-keys to get on bnet and shit and thats fine. Its having to have a net connection to extract files and stuff that I hate. Still remember getting half life 2 and being at my hometown with crappy dial up....that sucked
Yeah, im sure it sucks if you occasionally want to play on a PC with bad or none internet connection and you have to use the internet to play something.
I never played something that needed to connect the net to play offline, but all too often im having problems with connecting to the internet.
BTW isnt it possible for hackers to disable the verification process somehow on startups?
Naturally lol, normally I like having things done the legal but well when it helps out people with shit or no net connections its ok...I guess its not like if your downloading the game....if you use a hack to activate a LEGIT copy of a game cause you dont have a net connection or a very slow one thats fine with me.....but whos gonna use something like that when they own the game? a very small percentage of the players unfortunantly lol
(...)but the only way to run the game is if you have a internet connection to verify that it is a genuine cd key. even if you want to play solo player.
I'm almost sure that there are ways to play HL2 in single player mode using some kind of crack, anyway, I don't like HL so I never bothered in knowing that.
The fact is that its IMPOSSIBLE to avoid piracy, the best Blizzard can do is making a wonderfull Battle.net2 to make people buy the game to play online.
There is little purpose. Pirates will provide offline play regardless of protection, while the standard CD-key system already ensures the security of battle.net
I remember Doom 3 (atleast before I got it on steam) would make you have to verify everytime you booted up the game if a internet detection wasn't found it would close the game.
But is it possible that they make a 1 time online verification before they let you play? to verify the number of keys used on a machine and the number of times it's been registered? Or something to that effect, I can see loopholes but that could be a possibility.....
If this game turns out to be pay-to-play for like northwest gateway cause they said they would probably charge the most popular gateways
then im not buying this game

You can play Half-Life 2 without an internet connection by running steam in offline mode, but it requires some additional work and installation. With some games however, we aren't that lucky.

when the designers were interviewed they said for more popular gateways such as north america they would use pay-to-play
and they kept rambling well if we make it pay-to-play we will make sure its worth every dollar
lol

I'm pretty sure that I've watched or read every interview and this has never been said, so if you dont have a reference...I think you just remembered wrong.

Its not pay to play....where did u hear this?
Because that would totally ruin single player when you cant get to an internet connection.
Duh...?
