Thasador reporting in from Blizzcon in Anaheim, CA.
Playing the demo version of Diablo III, right off the bat I noticed something familiar. Hot key #1-6 on your key board are reserved for spells/skills casting. Much like the free online RPG game 2moons, you are able to cast a spell with a quick touch of any of the designated hotkey space. Why did blizzard do such a thing as to mirroring other RPG Games gameplay. Discuss!

Those before me shall quiver in my wake as I unleash the fury within!
Never played 2moons... So you mean that you hotkey these skills to 1-6 and then theres no mouse clicking involved? You just aim with the mouse and then click the hotkey on the keyboard?
I must wonder then, what does the mouse buttons do.
Presumably, clicking anywhere with the left button will get you there but what of the right one?, because its clearly won't change your camera angel.

Maybe you can bind some Spell/Item/Action to your right buttom pluss the number 1~6.
We gotta make a change...
It's time for us as a people to start makin' some changes.
Let's change the way we eat, let's change the way we live
and let's change the way we treat each other.

Actually 2Moons has two battle modes. The one being compared here is mode B that works this way:
1) Select a monster with the left click = Nothing happens except the monster is "highlighted".
2) Press the number of the skill = Attacks the monster with the skill
3) Repeat #2 until monster is dead
You just have to click the monster once and the skill aiming is automatic.
This battle mode, unlike Diablo 2, does not allow you to right click an area to perform a skill. In 2Moons this mode "locks" performing a skill to having a monster selected or not, except when the skill is passive. This mode totally sucks for AOE spells but makes PVP somewhat easier. If the enemy runs off the screen it's "unselected" and you have click him before you start attacking again because you are required a target to perform skills.
Mode A of 2Moons works like Diablo 2.
I hope in Diablo 3 it's a mix of both! If you have a monster selected you just press the skill (easy/lazy 2moons way). If you want to right click to target a certain area just do it too (classic Diablo 2 way)!
I think both together are a perfect match for Diablo 3 specially, as already mentioned, you won't use right click to rotate the camera. (In 2Moons right click rotates the camera)
Themeros, I think selecting monsters would a huge waste of time mostly because you're going to 1-hit-kill alot of enemies.
You're right, but it could be useful for bosses. This way you just focus on running away and pressing the right hotkey heh since running away and strategizing seems like a big thing in D3.
Ok so could the Thasador or someone who has played it explain in details how is the new system working?
because it has been a huge topic of discussion on these forums as to just how skills would function in Diablo 3.
For a while people thought it would be just like Diablo2 where you use a key to set the skill to a mouse button and click to use that skill. However, as I had thought all along, the skills are actually instant cast from the hot-bar, thus allowing for faster and more diverse skill use on the fly.
I dont think you will 1-hit-kill as many monsters as you think. There is more acts than the first and then it goes to NM and Hell modes....they said the first act is purposefully easier. If this game allows me to 1-hit-kill nearly every monster i will be PO'd! I dont think that will happen though.
There is no shock here, Blizzard Irvine rips off tons of other peoples ideas. Look around you'll see what I mean. Warhammer, Everquest, some others that I can't remember right now but i'm sure most of you can think of.

Right mouse button is also mapped to skills.

if Leap Attack is hotkeyed at "2" and you want to use it twice in a row, you have to
1) press 2
2) click where u want to leap
3) press 2 again
4) click where u want the second leap to go
ov you....
