How the hell was my post 'trolling'? I had my opinion about the subject and I posted it. I don't see how the lack of LAN is in any way connected to paying for playing, and I never really played LAN anyway. So just because I take a dig at (way too) hardcore Diablo players suddenly it's trolling?!
I just hope it would be Pay2Play =)
To support a good server with constant updates and without hacks i truelly believe a payment is needed. Jay Wilson say that they are focusing in creat the best multiplayer experience online.
It sounds like World of Diablo for me. Thanks God.
Wait, herding people to Battle Net? Why do people hate B Net so badly?
Some people who are as passionate as you (or more) about this game can't afford a decent internet connection (or their service provider sucks, or their country sucks) so Lag is inevitable on battle.net for these people, and lag can royally screw your gaming experience.
So by not giving these people the option of playing a Lan game and forcing them onto battle.net for their multiplayer needs is the worst thing possible, because it has been mentioned before that this is a multiplayer game with a single player option. In other words, its not going to be as fun on single player (which was true for Diablo and Diablo II as well) and battle.net is not an option for some.
What I don't understand is Blizzard actually reducing options for game play. Jay say the team is working toward co-op, diverse game play, and yet he removes the most reliable form of it? Playing lag free and with people you know won't screw you over is something Battle.net cannot do as well as LAN. Having said that, I might add that I've never actually played over a LAN, but I still think taking anything that isn't damaging to play out is a strange move.
I don't think for a second Blizzard would do a constant update for Diablo big enough to warrant P2P. Diablo has a finite story, so there's only so much stuff they could add, seeing as anything really good would be put into an expansion that everyone would buy, making them a much larger profit.
Keeping a server running good is hard, but World of Warcraft was making 200,000,000 dollars a month in 2006*, and with WotLK coming up, that number won't be falling. D3 team has said they took some stuff from WoW, why not take some $$ to run the Battle.net 2.0 server also?
*don't take this as gospel, it's only according to one website I read.

D3 Pros: Outdoors environment, night time environment, female Barbarian, rune spell system, the Wizard class
D3 Cons: Fantasy architecture, fantasy armor, fanstasy weapons, no shaders.
Various reasons that Battlenet doesn't fit the needs of some Diablo players
(in no particular order):
Battlenet is filled with map/character hackers
Battlenet is filled with cheaters
It's incredibly difficult to find reliable and fun people that fit
A promise to make D2's Battlenet cheat/hack free was never fulfilled
Battlenet's lag in multi-player is much worse than routers/LAN equipment
A group wants to play as a group free from the restrictions of an Internet connection
The fact of the matter is the same things apply to LAN as they do to battle.net, except for the bandwidth/internet, which is already obvious and one doesn't really need to mention. Any one of the people playing on LAN could cheat. In 2 different ways, on LAN you can cheat even more than closed battle net:
-characters are stored on the PC, not a server
-on certain networks, you can completely control other characters, or spy on them!
Since it's obviously unlikely friends would cheat/hack without others agreeing, or just for having fun for a bit, it's obviously not a big issue. Thing is, on Battle.net, you can just make a private room and play only with your friends. That way no cheaters interfere with you.
If you play on LAN, it's not like you can play with ANYONE else except your friends. On battle.net, you can play with your friends, plus meet new people... because as much as you may think otherwise, there are tons of well mannered people online.
The main issue, cheating, will also be removed in Diablo 3 with almost certainty. In fact removing LAN is pretty key to preventing cheating from being as easily done.
Now don't get me wrong... LAN is a nice feature... it's just I that could totally see why they may to it. Also, I don't consider diablo as important of a game to have LAN for, since it's not competitive. Games like RTS and FPS are really quite important to have on LAN because they are frequently team based games, and are all competitive. FPSes for instance, also have to have as small latency as possible, more than other types of games. Diablo, or any other RPG, isn't a game I've ever really seen played at a LAN party. I'm sure it's been done a bit, but I can guarentee it's an extreme minority.
Real time strategies and First person shooters don't have personal characters... you start from scratch each time, and use your own skill. When you have a game that uses characters, there's that easy cheating factor (granted, I know most people would keep pretty legit)
Character hacking on closed Battle.net? Can you give an example?
It's bullshit as always, there's no such thing as 'hackers and cheaters' on Battle.Net. At least not any that could in any way change your online experience.
if you ask some people on d2 where to get a maphack...or...any 3rd party program for D2 they might give you a website, that when you run whatever program you download from that site has some keylogger on it and they can find out your account password...or a program that when you run it your character starts dropping all items, and you cant control the mouse worth shit...its happened to me and a lot of people i know..good part is...then you know the website name, and can do it to other people...not that ive done it...its just that you can...and people probably do..and it spreads like wildfire

what a load of bullshit
Dupers, hackers and cheaters run rampant on Battle.net right now, even as we speak, last i heard was they can make any item drop from anywhere(d2)
Map hackers, Dupers, drop hackers, people that make ur screen shake or even go black(seriously hacker friend did it to me)
Hackers with super fast cast rates, attack speeds, running and walking, etc
I don't think that no LAN is a clue to a P2P system it could be a way to stop people from pirating the game. I am no too worried about it I have to use B.net to play with my friends in games anyway.

so yea alot of those things...
I don't care what you 'heard', I've been playing on the realms since D2 came out and that stuff doesn't happen. You can't get hacked unless you downloaded some shit yourself. What you are saying are blatant lies.
As for making things drop anywhere as you said it... Duh everyone would be doing it if it were possible. In closed B.Net you get a permanent ban for any packet-sending attempt.

We all know bots and maphacks work - those have nothing to do with serverside stuff. As for 'duping' and whatever else - those videos are just supposed to get you to download a virus. Why do you think the comments are disabled? There is not such thing as a 'duping' hack.
EDIT: Here you go, downloaded from the link you gave me:
I honestly don't care if there's LAN for Diablo 3 or not. I was never going to use it. I never did for Diablo 2. I didn't even do it for Diablo 1 (only it was on the older IPX networks, LAN wasn't around yet). They can take away LAN for all I care. They're just trying to streamline Diablo 3 and get it done faster. By removing LAN that means they don't have to code Diablo 3 to make it work on a LAN they instead only have to make it work on B.net.
And honestly, I really really wish people would stop jumping at shadows to proove that Blizzard is going to sell us out and force P2P on Diablo 3. I mean comeon, the two aren't even remotely related. They've already stated before they don't intend to make Diablo 3 pay to play and hell, it's a flippin' single player game. We already know it's going to be single player with multiplayer just like the old games so lets stop with the "oh woe is me D3 better not be pay to play or I won't let the moths out of my wallet" cuz it isn't going to happen and you tight wads are gonna get to save your precious money. Jesus, next you guys are going to complain because you have to pay for internet service...
Jesus don't be naive.....

Diablo 2 does have flaws in it's code which allows duping... you don't need the exploiting programs to prove it. The map system in the game is also flawed, which is why you can maphack. But in a design where the information is stored server-side, you are only shown the information that your character is supposed to know about (diablo 3).
Bots/farmers, obviously can't be done much about, but those aren't hacks really, just exploitation of the system.
Using battle net will prevent duping and maphacking. While it's not much of an issue on LANs really (since it's usually friends playing), LANs are not protected from that.

Trust blizzard on this one.
