However, I disagree with (material) PvP rewards (cosmetic rewards, ranks and titles are fine).
It's because of the vicious cycle of welfare arena epics that WoW's arena system gets so much hate. Rewarding PvP diminishes its fun, because it feels like a grind for better gear, and it becomes difficult to balance in the long run, due to the vicious cycle it creates.
And to the OP, WoW prevents duping by simply having no exploitable mecahnism by which items can be duped, items also have tracking codes.
I share the exact same view, would be good to have some sort of "arenas" (perhaps a standard coliseum type and/or a multi-level maze type with random obstacles and extra things). To have them secluded from the world there could perhaps be a waypoint that links directly to them, but other than that you can't accidentally stumble upon them?
And yes, as mentioned, there should be no reward other than ranking, cosmetics, or titles. No items of wealth or usefulness should be issued.
c) like trading in D2, can place wagers in form of gold/items. maybe even allow spectator wagering as well. exp gain based on lvl diff, but not aft 5 kills of same char - to prevent abuse
I like the idea of dueling and arenas, it puts serious competition into PVP. It doesn't mean regular PVP has to go, it just means theres a way to know if you're really good, or simply like to jump low-lvl players all day long.
I can tell you however that betting won't be inlcuded. It's beeen suggested in other games, and I think it counts the same as real gambling in alot of countries. That could be a problem.

People often don't realize why Blizzard intentionally added so many contraversial features such as PK. They knew what they were doing and that's why 8 years later there are still so many people playing D2.
Actually, Diablo II was never designed for PVP, and the whole thing was thrown in last minute. Diablo II was never designed to be a game in which you PVP.

True. It's been clear enough that PVP in D2 works despite the fact that you cannot gain anything. In a game like WoW, which requires heavy time investment to get to the top, rewards are needed. But I think D3 can get away with it, and still have arenas if they include cosmetic rewards and achievments.

This will happen if there is a D3 Armoury similar to WoW.
Which seems to be what's coming. However if it is similar to the feature in WoW, you probably won't have time to view someons profile before the actual battle starts. However you could view it afterwards, and see what you did wrong, what you need to consider in the future and what improvements you may need in tactics and gear. In that sense, the armory would be great.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
no........... do not add no gladitor nonsense... that will ruin the diablo duelling feeling... its was hella better in d2, run out and just fight... you die.you die...tuff luck.
At least one drawback to FFA pvp as it was in D2 is that thats the only type of pvp u can have. With dedicated pvp they can implement interesting (e.g. 1v1 colosseum with random mobs entering unexpectedly) maps for diff game types: DM, Team DM, CTF, Domination, Last-man-standing. Also allow 1vsMany, ManyVSMany combat - look at 'Demigod'. Think back to act5's 1v3 ancients quest. Imagine ur a lvl80 barb taking on 3 lvl50 witch doctors~thats gotta b some awesome fighting (which reminds me: a rec&replay feature'd b nice wif diablo)
Mite also be cool with a filterable list feature: kinda like WoW auction house for pvp'ers. can find specific level/class player n issue challenge

fuckin right...
and to the item checking thing... thats stuipd... i dont think you should see my gear unless you prove to me u can beat me in the field of battle adn are worthy of seeing it and only if i decide.
Maybe you could limit it like you could games in D2. Say, only people within 5 levels of mine can join and a max of however many. Then teams could be formed if needed, uneven if necessary.
