I for one like the graphics they have in the game so far. I also am in love with the concept art the artists have drawn. A lot of people are complaining that the ingame graphics are to wowish/cartoony, i can see what your trying to say. They CAN be more realistic, the reason why d2 and d1 was more realistic was because the character models were all sprites. So I thought to myself if Blizzard decides to redo the graphics what direction should they take. A lot of people are saying they want super realism but honestly why do we need an identical game to Titan Quest. I was taking a look through Blizzards concept art for the 3rd time really looking at it in detail. And in all honesty i could be competely happy with their art style. Im all for their current art style, but if they made the game resemble their concept art more closely that would TRULY be amazing.
So what do you guys think, would you prefer a Titan Quest style art or for them to really follow their concept art more closely.
Let's say Diablo 3 comes out in a year. The poly counts on the D3 models will be a joke by then. Pre-WoW I would have made the excuse that Blizzard was not the most economically successful gaming company in the world ( compared to EA etc ) and at that time it was their prerogative to focus more on quality of gameplay than graphics - an understandable tradeoff for a company that couldn't throw money at every challenge. At this point, Blizzard has more money than they could possibly know what to do with, so there really is no excuse NOT to see some next-gen graphics. But yes, you're right to some degree, it is difficult to make more realistic graphics when you model so low poly. Low-poly still doesn't equate to copying WarCraft. Also, the low-poly bit unfortunately is not an excuse for Blizzard as they could have afforded to go far more cutting-edge this time around.
Get a 3D modeler, and try to make a good looking low-poly model of one of those. No matter how hard you try, you'll end up with something similar to the actual D3 3D art.
haha this is very true. Well low poly art and no custom shaders.

They chose not to make the graphics truly next-gen because Blizzard wants people with lower end systems to run the game. That being said it would be nice to have a good array of graphics sliders so high end machines could use more shaders and effects.

That really doesn't help hardware business, Games and hardward are like PB'n'J, it feels like an excuse to me.

Not quite... It depends what game developer you are talking about... Blizzard has been good about holding the standards of thinking about the gamers before the eye candy of video games. When I run a game and see the "nvidia" advertisement on the opening cinematics, I know that the company has ties with them so that they will make a game that causes people to want to buy those hardware products to help their performance. Blizzard so far hasn't fallen into this trap, because they have been successful and are a powerful enough developer where they don't need that.

Seriously, I am a 3d modeler and that is simply NOT the case, cartoon like proportions with large areas of effectively solid color with heavily accentuated shading is NOT essential for low poly work. I have worked with people doing 3d work that know personally some of the big names in this business, I do know what I am talking about. Hell just take a trip to "polycount" and browse through some of the models the amazing artists over there produce, a lot of them are very low poly and quite a few are done in an extremely realistic manner.

Not everyone out there has the cash to buy a bleeding edge computer, or even close to bleeding edge. My friend who hopes to be able to enjoy this game has a 10 year old Dell. With the way this game will end up being he should have a chance.
Why segregate a good portion of a user base out there because you want the best graphics. That right there is a trap that Blizzard hasn't fallen into. One reason why PC gaming is failing is because of reasons like that. Game companies will push the limits, but people can't go with it and end up lagging behind.
I think they need to upgrade a little, I mean isn't it about time to get little higher than 2003 graphics? The gameplay is fun imo but the art style and shadowing need improvement (like some edited pics)
And no, the barbarian concept art is hideous so unrealistic, who will put tons of weight without it giving full protection (like full plate armor).
I hope it doesn't run like TQ though... Game was choppy as hell.

I am sure we will see that as development progresses. It took em this long to find a style and now they need to perfect it. Look at Starcraft 2.

Iv done 3D modeling before and thats not completely true. If this was the case, every low poly game ( anything console last gen and earlyer would look exactly like WoW and this is not the case).
Why is the game resolution not completely next gen?

Crysis is a good example of that.
I couldnt have said it better myself.

Really...? If you look closely it seems like his armor is strategically placed. Im sure he is more vulnerable to a stab in certain areas but a slash, it looks like he would be protected. Reducing the armor in certain areas also gives him more maneuverability. Also your comment makes it sound like anyone who didnt where the Heavy Plate Mail in diablo 2 wernt being very realistic. Suspend you disbelief for a minute, you are fighting ghouls you know. Why does everything else have to be exactly what it was in "rl" history.

erm, The art picture armor is more ceremonial than useful cause who need the folds of armor over and over on certain area(for lack of better term, sorry english isnt my native) it's too heavy and gets in the way of maneuvering.
If the barbarian was more of a tank -a slow char- It was a little more logical but not by far :X
As one of the goal of the game to be fast and furious kind of thing the armor look out of place.
In D2 you have skin types and less metalic ones but at least they don't look like 3rd head grown out of your shoulders or something, and not so bold pieces.
In RL they used armors in wars. if someone made a top research on usefulness of armors it was in the past.
and they didn't wear ceremonial armors during a war for fighting(unless someone was a dumbass)

Are you actually trying to justify that the barbarian armour is realistic? Are you that much of a fanboy? Just dont, dont even start.

But you can you say for sure you know his fighting style. Maybe he uses his shoulders stratigically. Im just making this up but you dont know either. Just because in real life normal people cant wear heavy stuff like that doesnt mean in this fantasy world, were a sorceress casts orb, the barbarian needs very heavy armor, or very light armor depending on his stratagie.
Also, maybe diablo attacks from above alot since he is huge.? lol

Next time you insult someone by saying they're not very bright, its best to spell correctly.
EDIT: what the hell are you talking about? I just said DON'T say that the armour in D3 is realistic, which implies I KNOW IT isn't. So what is it I'm supposed to be getting over?
and wtf has this got to do with Titan Quest? My god I hate the immature children on this website.
