We all saw what happened with Hellgate: London being the "spiritual successor to diablo 2".. That kind of claim made people have enormous expectations that the game just could not possibly meet.
I am a huge blizzard fan and have played all of their games.. While not being a real time strategy fan, I found that their warcraft/starcraft games have been my favorite and kept me playing more than any other Real Time Strategy game.. Thing is though, since I was never insanely into warcraft or starcraft I really have/had nothing to expect out of their sequels.. As long as the game is well made, fun, great community, I'll play it and won't notice small things to nitpick about..
I am however a huge huge HUGE diablo fan.. And I played a TON of diablo 1 and 2.. So I guess I have really high expectations for this game. Mainly, will it suck me in and keep me playing like diablo2 did? Will it have the 'magic' that the first two diablo games had.. As soon as I start playing it will I think to myself "yep.. this game has it"..
I have high hopes though as I know Blizzard is a very capable company in creating fantastic games.. I know a lot of people have said "oh no, the original diablo team is gone.." yeah well, we can see what they did with Hellgate and I was none too impressed.. I think the teams at blizzard are incredibly talented.. I think that they can take a game previously made by the company with a different team, dissect it in every way to learn what worked and what didn't and make something new with incredible graphics, gameplay while adding on that sprinkle of blizzard magic all of their titles have to some degree..
So with that said, what do you think it will take for this game to meet up with our expectations? Or is it something that can't even be explained? Like I said with a game having a certain 'magic' about it.. Something that exceeds the sum of its parts.. Maybe it's just the way the entire game is as a whole, everything has to be JUST right.. Like the moon aligning with pluto, jupiter and so on
Well they need to make sure they dont fuck up the story. Dont follow what the books said just do what the games originally had in mind. Also the atmosphere needs to be right. The world of Sanctuary is not supposed to be a happy place, it is supposed to be dark and dreary. D3 needs lots of items, and it needs to be a hack and slash game with lots of blood and gore and death animations.
also they need to have the paladin class, barbarian class, and necromancer. and then of course some sort of wizard type person.
Tyrael needs to be a good guy and cain needs to be there as usual as a helping hand

not necro, u mean sorceress right and amazon/rogue right?
its been there since d1.
The warrior mage was repalced by Barbarian Paladin Sor Necro and somehow became the mercenaries in the D2. Dunno if blue would bring us some new class in D3.
I'm sorry Num3n I have to disagree with you on them not following the books. The books follow the game storyline quite well actually, only a few details are different. I'm not going to spoil the books, but there are some awesome implications in them of what could be an amazing game. I will conced that I will be annoyed if Blizzard announces a prequel to diablo following the books. But I believe a sequel that follows the minor differences can turn out quite well.
Look at what they did to SC2, not that I won't buy it, but it looks like an upgraded version of WC3 (AKA cartoony). Imagine a cartoony Diablo............................................................alright stop now
Has Blizzard ever let you down? I cant recall a time. They make sure to put extra work into their games so they come out looking amazing.... Diablo3 will be the best Hack`N`Slash ever!

I can recall several times Blizzard has let me down
1) Starcraft: Ghost - Would've been a kickass game
2) Warcraft Adventures - Was lookin' foward to this when I was a kid
3) Lost Vikings - WTF BRING THE MIDGETS BACK
4) Blizzard North - Can't solve your own conflicts?
5) World of WarARENACraft - For fuck sakes its WAR not fucking ARENA
6) WoW: WotLK - Flying Dalaran + Death of Malygos: Need I say more?
7) WC3 Ladder patch - Wtf, I have a team full of noobs

1) The story line in the books is wonderful, I don't know what the hell you're talking about.
2) It should only be dark and dreary in the appropriate places. It would be weird to have that atmosphere in Lut Gholein's deserts.
3) The violence doesn't need to be overhyped, like Mortal Kombat, or God of War, or something- that was just excessive and unnessessary. Now if it's for something important, like the pool in Andariel's subverted catacombs or in Mephisto's durance, then it would be appropriate, but we don't need 20 gallons of blood squirting out of a decapitated head.

I highly doubt diablo would be made 'cartoony'... I think the dark, gothic, fantasy vibe will be very apparent..

The story of the books is awesome, although perhaps not the most impressive piece of writing I've ever seen. Regardlesshowever, it offers many new possibilities to evolve the series.

Tyrael: Yes. Cain: No way, please retire that guy.

I wish people would stop saying this like it's the ultimate truth.

OK. All blizzard games are favored by idiots. We got THAT part. But it doesn't make it the ultimate truth.
So first of all you're saying we're idiots. And second, if we are idiots, then isn't it the ultimate truth for us?
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.

the thing that will make or break the game for me is gold. it needs to be the same way d2 was, only trading items for items. gold is useless
its not supposed to be a nice game
autostats are rediclous
lack of pots is not welcome
if it aint broke dont fix it! (diablo2)
