the concept art is not the same as the gameplay art, i dont know - the concept art is just CREEPY.. the gameplay art is cool and all, but it does feel like WoW and Mythos had teh secks.
The graphics are obviously 3D, yet it is the ART STYLE we are debating over. Did you honestly expect everyone to accept such a drastic change after 8 years of waiting for a Diablo-esque game? Gameplay is a plus, and many things defined the Diablo universe, but gothic horror was definately one of them.
As graphics become more and more realistic, people will begin to notice them. Blizzard more than likely knew that these kinds of discussions would pop-up.
My god, it's like whatever the community does to try and show a better looking screenshot they always succeed!! All the "New and Improved" Shots look AMAZING compared to the originals ESPECIALLY the one with the rain on the bridge. That is a game that captivates me, the more and more I see these screen comparisons the more I can't help but completely agree with everyone on this topic. Blizzard has MUCH room for improvement in the Art department.
Also speaking of WoW, whoever designed art for that game (or the team) should have been fired a long time ago. Every time they released a new set of armor to the game the entire community uproared about how awful and gay everything looked and sent in their own renditions of what things should look like but Blizzard never cared to listen and just did whatever they want. Fucking faggots, it's times like those you just begin to hate Blizzard. I really hope they don't fuck up the Diablo series like they did with Warcraft.
They Need To Make The Armor More Real Its Looks. Hella Gay Now
Ever Inn The Sword Looks unReal Blizzard Needs To Call up The Old Member To Help The
Pussy Design Team Of Diablo3 .They Need To Get Out Of That WoW Mode And Really Understand Diablo Beacause Looking At This Is Crap The More i look it makes me sick. They Need To
Fix Those Model Give Them More And The Weapons And Armor Man Because They Look.

Yea but is D3 ripping off those franchises, or are they ripping off D2? It seems like a natural step for me. All I want is light radius back.
They still have Starcraft competitions don't they? That game isn't exactly excelling in the graphics department compared to today's games.
I think the game definitely needs to go heavier in the gothic/dark direction, but I'll still buy it in it's current state. Graphics are nice but they don't make or break a game.
I'd be on board for improving character models and the graphics on gear a bit so long as it didn't significantly set back production. As I have said consistently in this discussion, I value the story over the look of the game.
I also agree that the gargoyle pictures lack the details to pull off the desired mood. That said, many of the user "enhancements" to pictures I see in this thread are just graying out color.
Frostwave (a few dozen posts back) is the first person I saw do more than reduce the color hues on a screen for improvement. He added a few brushes of red to simulate blood on the floor. I *do* hope we see some locales like that in-game. They don't all have to do it, but it would be nice if some did.
Blizzard You Most Hear Use And Look At This Forum Or Some Should Send Them Via Email With Why We Don't Like The Why The Game Looks And Not The Why It Plays
Hey, i don't know if any one noticed that. But besides this crappy looking art design.
DId anyone notice how does the items in inventory look like ??
They are so small, and each is only one square big, just like in WoW !!!!! Thats a crime!!!!
Do You remember those perfect looking unique items in Your inventory in D2!!!!??? Blizzard c'mon!!! Don't give us this crap!!! Hello!!!
agree. I loved the realistic weapons and armor that looked like you could pick up.
Look here:
Does this inventory hand-painted axe look like something *YOU* could hold? Fuck no.

But even if you didn't play it, WoW is so extremely successful you'd have to ask why NOT do things that way?
(I don't play/have never played WoW)
Diablo II was also very successful and after nearly a decade it still has a large and dedicated playerbase and fanbase. And your way of thinking is a terrible business model. Unfortunately, that is what Blizzard seems to be going for.
The gfx of games today has become a HUGE immersion factor in how we as gamers interact with the game surroundings.
I highly disagree. I think sound and music are much more important. FarCry was beautify but it wasn't immersive AT ALL. Some games I will not name were pretty ugly but had great atmosphere formation with the eerie music, randomized sounds in the background, and the effects on monsters and such... And, in the end, design over graphics. Diablo I is example of good design with not very advanced technology. I really don't know a 3D top down game that satisfied my design requirements, though...
I usually dont complain about the art style of a game but when it comes to Diablo this needs to be fixed. Like others have said, if I didn't know this was Diablo I would have never guessed it was. It really doesn't feel like Diablo.
Seriously, were the hell do you see anything remotely related to Diablo in this.

Azeroth is also not Sanctuary.
Is your post serious? Honestly?
My post was serious for starters.
I realize they are not the same place.
But, this is from the same company, for one.
Two, WoW is one of those games that changes how a lot of shit is done. If it was a complete failure, I doubt you'd see anything remotely looking WoW in Diablo 3.
It's not that Diablo ISN'T successful, but from what I know, WoW is WAY more successful.
(And that's NO knock on Diablo by far)
But when something that big comes along and such a wide fan base likes it, then people in the industry are going to go along with similar ideas. If people liked that "cartoony" armor in WoW and WoW is a standard right now (even if it's a different game) they're going to use it. They're not trying to detract from Diablo so much as they're trying to gain MORE fans for it.
Fuck you, I'm a dragon.

Unless that game is Crysis.
It's NOT/NEVER about Graphics Vs Gameplay!!! (I think Diablo 3 has Great graphics!)
But like Soender said, it's all about Mood/Atmosphere of Diablo, meant to be Scary and NOT Vibrant/Colorful!
Except for the pretty girl, everything else need NOT to be Pretty/cute in this game!!!
I also agree that the gargoyle pictures lack the details to pull off the desired mood. That said, many of the user "enhancements" to pictures I see in this thread are just graying out color.

WOW is for a Wider range of players, and shouldn't apply to Diablo!

Year it was published doesn't matter... WoW is an MMO and it gets more popular as time goes by.
I love Diablo, but in terms of popularity? WoW wipes the floors with it.
