Ask yourself this; "why is the art different"? If you answer me with "technological advances" then i know for a fact you're lying straigth to my face.
I respect that you want Diablo, i want Diablo, i don't see how valid criticism will prevent you from either wanting or getting Diablo. Furthermore you made it perfectly clear looks don't matter (wich is funny cause looks are infact apart of Diablo, so that means you only want parts of Diablo and not really Diablo as a whole, wich makes you kinda less of a fan, innit?) so why on earth are you defending Diablo 3's looks, they shouldn't matter, correct?
Answer me this, how is "strong story", "good gameplay", whatever, relevant to how "amazing" D3 looks? How is that a reason to not criticize its cartoony looks (wether positive or negative, wich is subjective)? How can you not tell me its looks and direction of art weren't a big foundation of the Diablo experience as a whole? And if you could, then how could you ever tell me D3 infact does look amazing in the context of Diablo?
Last question, why do you bother? This entire thread seems to be irrelevant to you anyways.

What is with you people and your DARK GOTHIC ZOMG obsession. Blizzard isn't going to change this even if you complain.. and in an interview I heard, they mentioned that they are shooting for "dark as an emotion" rather than having the world literally dark. If you don't like it.. well I mean you could cry some more.. but there isn't much you can do about it. Blizzard is not going to see this and go "Oh you know that game we have been working on for the past 4 years.. scrap all the artwork. All of it. It is crap." They aren't.. why? Because it isn't crap! I like this new approach that Blizzard is taking.. I don't have to shoot my gamma up 100% to see what is going on in game.. Am I going to miss the Gothic feel? No.. because it is still going to be there! We have seen 1% of this game.. this is one small fraction of a zone.. one zone which is a part of an entire WORLD. To think that a lot of you think that the WHOLE GAME is going to look like that first 20 minutes of game play is laughable. You are acting so ungrateful.. Blizzard has just announced this fabulous game.. and the second you see it in action you shot it down. Come on guys.. you have been bitching and moaning for a decade about this game.. We were even threatening to storm Blizzard in Irvine if they didn't announce it.. and when they finally do.. after 10 years of complaining.. you ridicule it. You look down upon it because it has the same art style as "TEH GREAT SATAN KNOWN AS WORLD OF WARCRAFT." Well, my mom used to tell me that beggars can't be choosers. Please at least PRETEND to act greatful. The only excuse for complaining is that when you play this game 2 years from now, it is total crap.. But I can tell you with confidence that it won't be.. because this is Blizzard we are talking about.. They have never released a bad game. Ever. I don't care what you say about WoW.. it is a GOOD GAME.. as is the entire Warcraft series.. as is the entire Starcraft series.. and Lost Vikings is one helluva a good Gameboy Advance game.. so please just have faith. Blizzard knows what they are doing. They are not going to let this game look like crap or be crap.
I'd love you to post some video on YouTube of your 24v24 battles. I'd be interested in seeing the environmental details in those battles.
Even if you can convince me that it is entirely possible, I'm still not mad at Blizzard for wanting to reach more gamers that those of us with high end systems.
I'll get you a video, NP.

And here we go again with the negationism. Its getting very tiresome you know.
Why does Blizzard even show you anything anyways? According to you they shouldn't even bother. You argue on the presumption that we can't tell anything and everything is unrepresentative of the end result, i on the otherhand argue with what is given to us, i actually use the information as a basis to my arguments and you simply disregard it all. Oh how i wonder who's more valid.
Please indulge me in the definition of "wrong" and tell me "different" can't ever be considered "wrong", heh, a cat is a dog, is that "wrong"? No its "different". ahem
Is different wrong? In the right context it is. In the context of Diablo WoW is different. Is WoW wrong? Nope. Is Diablo wrong? Nope. So they MUST be super right together, rite? Nope. Tell me, how is it "more" right to go further away from Diablo and move closer towards WoW from the perspective of Diablo? How can that be "more" right? Does Diablo not define Diablo? Does Diablo WoWinated define Diablo more?

Wasn't able to actually read that entire thing but I think I know what you're saying. If people don't have a right to point out what they think is wrong, then why do they think it's alright to post threads about everything that's great!
Especially considering the game is in early stages after all, and all those great parts can change.

Last question, why do you bother? This entire thread seems to be irrelevant to you anyways.
I cannot answer for the person you addressed, but I'd remind you that this thread was a poll asking all of us what we thought about the graphics. It's relevant to all Diablo fans. Now, if we were having a debate--no matter how polite--in a thread called "Everyone who thinks the new graphics are too cartoony post here," I'd say we dissenters would be trolling.
Aside from that, I am enjoying the respectful disagreements. I am very happy to be able to talk about a confirmed Diablo title.

I don't want to complain about the game
Heh, we all want it. It's tough to match what we get with our own expectations. I bet there will be plenty of things that get on my nerves. The graphical style just ain't it.

Well, I believe that if you want the dark gothic feel, you don't need to completely change the graphics, just change the lighting, like in the dungeon how it is blue, just change it to a more gray, but when you're in the wilderness how could you really give it a dark feel lol.. It's been 20 years since Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal walked the earth. It is a better place now, it's not as dark. Like the pictures that the gentlemen posted to start this thread, that's all you have to do, and Voila!! You have a darker feel. Graphics don't mean shit to me, lighting can change and you've got your darker vibe. I agree, I would like a dark vibe, but it wouldn't kill this game if it stays the same, and all people who bitch, know when this game is released that they're going to buy it also.
I'll try to keep this on topic about Diablo III, but I wanted to make some notes about games that really push the envelope on graphics.
EverQuest 2 had great graphics for its time when it launched. So great that few people could run the game. WoW launched with lower requirements (and I what I believe to be quite cartoony graphics with ill-proportioned character models and blocky...well, everything). WoW ran away as the hit game while EQ2 had to try to overcome an abysmal launch. Today, EQ2 graphics look quite dated while WoW still looks just as good (or bad if you are me) as it did then.
Vanguard has great graphics, and I think no game I have seen can compare to the vistas of the world of Telon. But it was a system resource hog with horrible optimization and flopped. Now that SOE has it running smoothly, no one will play it. Even those who come back do so with an grudge because of their initial disappointment.
II already see things like that happening with AoC. When your machine struggles to run a game smoothly, it magnifies any other problems the game might have.
My fear would be that Diablo III would go down that path if it tried to incorporate the best graphics possible on the planet. Plus, ultra-realistic graphical games just do not stand up to the test of time. I certainly don't want something as cartoony as WoW, but I want something that won't make it hard to keep playing for 5 years, you know?
Hopefully some of the stuff we saw today and on Saturday .Change over the next year and progress further
to what i think diablo3 would look like in the 20 year so stating.

The change from blue to grey is the colors but it would even look fine just by making it so the dungeons are just darker (light wise) in general. They can do whatever they want outside, inside the dungeons though there should be a lot less light.
Even if you can convince me that it is entirely possible, I'm still not mad at Blizzard for wanting to reach more gamers that those of us with high end systems.
Look at the last 30 seconds.
It shows 48 people standing, running, casting spells after the siege.
My friend made this video. He keeps high settings, and gets 40+fps.

Sure, i'm not telling him to fuck off or anything and i know this thread isn't called "you think D3 = cartoony graphix? Post here", i'm just saying that his argumenting is slightly off, he ofcourse has every right to post his opinions (although it does seem a bit odd to post strongly defined opinions about something you claim you do not care about, i assume he does care a bit, not that he trolls or anything ;)) Anyways, we're all one happy family anyways, some people just dislike the more cartoony direction of Diablo 3.
Roger roger. Rep for you!
Well, I am out for the night. I need to try for some QT with the wife. Good night all, and may your dreams be filled with demons and unholy sacrifice.

I agree, that's what I'm trying to say, just the lighting, not the colors. Because when you look at it, the blue color is just the lights, I'm confident and have faith in Blizzard.

I agree with the graphics part, as much as I was hoping they would run it on Direct x10, because the system I'm running is so high end, I'm going to be running Quad-SLI n all. BUT, I did have to accept this because they have to make this available to all gamers with lower end systems. So I'm not complaining, I'm just excited about the announcement and look forward to every day that we can see some new things about it.
Huge thread, I see where you are getting at however it can be solved a lot easier than a petition of proposal to blizzard. The game will come with a brightness gamma contrast setting just like diablo 2.
For them to change it to what some of us want would be foolish to those who dont want it. You can always take away from color but adding it is much harder.
Don't call me a hypocrite because I am actually one of those who would rather have it dark than ''cartoony'' however going to the options in D3 im sure will have enough customization skills to adjust to your need.
Someone prolly has said what I just said and im not trying to repost just save time with blizzard which could be used for much more important aspects of the game.
So changing the look permanently I promise will not happen to the extent most of us want. However an option menu will be much easier and in just about every game now a days even portable games (ds, PsP)
I am actually a lot more pissed about the annoying fucking Jihad shit they blare during the teaser. I feel like i should be wearing a turban.
Also I think they made the barb way to fucking old looking, cain almost looks in better shape. I for one will be extremely pissed if they have the amazon class and her huge breasts are now rug burners.
Everyone here seems to have forgotten that there's going to be an options menu, there's going to be a graphics menu, everyone can be happy one way or another.
