Random question out of topic, but I've got my resident WD experts here so here it is:
Is the crafting different based upon the character class you choose? Maybe it was just Beta, but seems like I had more crafting options before.
All your characters share your blacksmith if that's what you're getting at... so if you start a new character your blacksmith will stay the same level. Also, the items you can make are the same for every class

haha, okay that makes sense. In the beta I buffed up the blacksmith using my WD, then created a Barbarian. I saw all of the choices the Barbarian had and thought, well maybe he's just a natural smither:) Didn't realize it was a shared resource:)
Ya, Dire bats are VERY strong. I just can't hit that hard with anything, and its a line aoe to boot. I'm almost 30 now, I finally switched dire bats over to locust swarm. While it doesn't hit very hard theres somethin to be said for only having to cast it once, and it does do solid dmg - just over time. Its saving grace is that it spreads on its own allowing you to spam other abilities. I think some of the locust runes could put it in strong contention with dire bats.
To be honest, after playing some more, I don't think it needs nerfing, more likely Zombie Charger needs some slightly buff, movement speed or range wise (since both skills fill same role, yet Zombie feels much weaker in every regard).
And myself, I don't have problems targeting them, in fact, it's pretty easy to snipe far away targets with it, unlike Chargers.
ya tried using dire bats a few times, even making my entire build/gear around it and it still was insufficient compared to other options available and was just annoying to use

Could you elaborate a little on that? Currently level 33 and I still cannot find anything that does damage that comes remotely close to what Dire Bats are doing.
Currently using firebomb, direbats, gargantuan, soulharvest, acidrain and tiki warriors.

ive gotten the best use out of plague of toads - explosive toads. its not only spammable but also really high damage and with fast attack speed they go everywhere. you can even get the 20% dmg 30% mana cost passive and still spam it way more and itll do just as much as dire bats per toad. im currently lvl 52 in hell and STILL using them. of course i switch to something else before bosses. but for champion packs n shit PoT still pwns the most

Dire bats is good if you can group everyone up, but sometimes I throw one out and it hits only one or two. Personally, I play what I enjoy at the time. I change it all the time, experimenting with different builds and finding what is comfortable to me (some builds are too hectic for me). I love the wall of pets, and the psychofant*sp (3% fetish one) with darts/firebomb and rain of toads is a lot of fun. I love watching the toads splash around and it's totally viable in Nightmare so far. I don't use SH or pierce the veil (I've tried it, but the toads actually make me run out of mana fast).
Point? Dire Bats is good and op for some people, but I prefer my own playstyle. And yes, I kill around as fast and without any trouble.
Yeah, I tried out this Dire Bats / Vision Quest build, and once you get the hang of working with cooldowns and Vision Quest it's pretty effective, but definitely not how I like to play; the Bats are such a monstrous mana dump. I still feel like Dart is a more sustainable / consistent DPS for single targets backed up by Swarm or Acid Cloud for AOE, they're more cast-and-forget. I've been working more with a 'mana-less' build that uses lighter / more mana efficient skills to let me do things like take the +20% damage increase (30% mana cost increase) passive.
I don't think it's OP because they're so mana heavy and working with vision quest can be a bit tricky to manage, especially in really rough champion pack engagements.

they significantly reduced crafting so it wasnt so OP
Personally I don't like Dire Bats, hitting targets isn't as easy as the other options.
